OG Dragonball just hits different.

I admit it, i watched dbz first, because i first got into db in 2010 and kai was so popular back then, so i never put much attention to the original But in 2021, i decided to watch the entire show, and it was a beautiful experience, i loved everything about the show, the adventures, the fillers, the incredible credits song, it made me love the franchise even more ❤

Don’t feel bad, even us old school Toonami watchers didn’t watch DB until it was dubbed for us which was after Z aired. DB is a fun series that was probably more shocking for viewers who saw it first, but for long time fans of Z, it’s seen as a humble series that started off with more of a comedic tone that would ease us into a more serious tone for the series that would follow.

Yeah DB has quite a different tone because Toriyama started it as a gag manga (which he had historically written) with a fantasy adventure theme. But he became more confident writing serious material as the series progressed

NGL the Grandpa Gohan scene hits differently nowadays since I lost people important to me.

The more and more I see of Dragon Ball through clips like these, the more and more I’m convinced to watch it. Seeing lil round baby Goku being the cutest is such a difference from his uber jacked screamy fight whore self in Super. Thank you for sharing!

I seriously recommend watching it as a long time Z fan. Its beginnings are humble with more comedic moments than the serious ones we’ve grown accustomed to, but it definitely eases you into its more epic moments that are to follow. Things are more self contained as aliens, gods, deities, etc aren’t present(until close to the end)so it feels more grounded with more earthly threats, but I think it will give you a greater appreciation for Z if you watch the entire series.

Fr, they destroyed goku's character in super, and I absolutely hate it for that, sure ultra instinct is amazing and all, but we all love goku for who he is, he's not an illiterate dumb idiot like they show in dbs, neither is he a a guy who knows nothing but fighting, goku has great character both in db, and dbz, he's a cute little child who had a rough childhood, but he seeks to get stronger and make more friends, and protect those friends, and in Z he's character is a good father, a good husband, a legendary fighter and hero, with common knowledge in life, amd we all love his superman like persona in Z, he was perfect, from top to bottom, but they destroyed him, and his character in super, in fact, at times, I actually find him to be the most annoying character in super

@@POSHMODS you’re right, for us American fans who grew up with Toonami’s DB and DBZ, the Goku we see in Super is ruined from how he was. However, Toriyama stated many times that he never intended Goku to be a stereotypical hero, he wanted him selfish and naive. Funimation was afraid if they dubbed Goku like he was intended, he would alienate an American audience so they changed his dialogue to appeal to us. The Goku is Super, the one we don’t like, is how he is intended to be. They don’t change his dialogue anymore cause DB already has a big fanbase. I hate it to, but blame the Japanese.

Goku had the roughest childhood if you think about it, first he lost his mom and dad and didn’t even know it, then lost his grandpa then he had to fight the opps left and left. One thing he never did was give up that’s why I love goku 💯

For most people, that would be an incredibly rough childhood, but Goku didn't really seem to care afaik. He was in the woods beating up tigers and vibing until Bulma came and let him beat up on people lol

I don't think Saiyans care about not having parents or having to survive by violence, considering the methods they use to conquer other planets. If anything, Goku's childhood is on brand if not a little easy-going for the average saiyan.

@@avon_soprano97 I can't buy that he really does the way normal people do. I think you have to be tied to his fight/adventuring to matter to him. He has the emotional attatchments of an animal I think. Is Bulma really his friend after he gets married? He barely talks to her so I don't think so. Bit Krillin is still in the fight gang so the Super Saiayan transformation on namek makes sense that way.

No I think he does care about his friends. Just look at how he's so happy to reunite with his friends at the first tournament. And the reason is because these people were the closest thing to a family he ever had after Grandpa Gohan passed away

Saiyans apparently grow very slowly during their teenage years, this was also the case for Trunks and Goten

Imagine modern Goku getting to meet Grandpa Gohan, just for G.Gohan to go "My boy, this peace is what all true warriors stri-" whoops, wrong series. "My boy, you've become a God? Holy moly".

I love Goku's line being "He's friends with me" about Yamcha. It seems like such a power move. Like "he's friends with me, but I'm not friends with him" 😂 Edit: for all the sensitive little souls getting their panties in a wad over this comment: I know that's not what the actual intention of the line is. It's just a clunky translation of the original that they used to fit the lip flaps. I'm just saying it makes it sound like that, and it's funny because Goku would never say something like that. Please unclutch your goddamn pearls.

@@samueldeandrade8535 Blame the writers. They have had a personal vendetta against Yamcha since day 1. The guy isnt even in DB GT. Minus a 5 second clip in which he says nothing. Dragon Ball Super, he's 47 and still single. His best friend Puar gets ignored by everyone at all times. Dragon Ball started him as a bandit. He got to the quarter finals in every tournament he entered. Never any further. He basically got caught cheating by Bulma, at the funfair when that Red Ribbon Army woman kissed him when trying to prize the Dragon Balls. Bulma lets Vegeta train all he likes but never did like Yamcha training, complaining about her lack of attention. Yamcha got dumped for doing what Vegeta does. Despite Yamcha having a job. Yamcha basically never wins. His biggest win was one match in the Fortune Teller Baba Saga. But to be fair. Even Puar won a match, against the opponent Krillin lost against. Yamcha gets some screen time nowadays but it doesn't amount to any new character development or change. If you removed him, the plot wouldn't change one bit. Nor would his own life. He's pretty much identicle at the end of Z and current Dragon Ball Super.

Goku's tail still hadn't grown back by the time he faced Monster Beast Giran in the first round. It suddenly emerged at the end of the match. The extra strength it brought back with it was enough to allow Goku to break the Merry-Go-Round Gum that Giran had trapped him in. That feat was enough to intimidate Giran into surrendering.
