It has more to do with anatomy than intelligence. Their trunks are incredibly versatile, quite possibly the most versatile limb of any mammalian species I'm aware of. Probably the greater part of their entire motor cortex is taken up by controlling it effectively. Also what it was doing was the equivalent of a human hanging their wrist on the edge of the drum and tapping it with their fingers. Basically the drum is taking almost all of the weight of its trunk leaving hardly any control necessary but the tip section which is just moving up and down lightly lacking the strength to do much more.

His gentleness when hitting the drum is really showing how aware he is of his body mass and strength. He instantly got that you must rebound on the drum to let the skin vibrate and creating a sound, and did it in such a controlled way.

I know people think animals live in like a dream state even of it doesn't make sense but no even being able to understand objects and how to move them is too much an animal that dumb couldn't survive

Elephants are one of the very few mammals/animals that's emotionally affected by music . There are Elephant Rehabilitation facilities that use soothing music for therapy and the elephants will actually start dancing by rocking back and forth. It's amazing and adorable

But it’s such a disgrace to have him locked up in this tiny cage. These animals need to be able to WALK. Their species normally travels between 30-100 kilometers a day!!! And just watch this tiny cage they locked him up in.. It‘s so fucking sad. It’s nice of the man to play with him, it really is. But I still can’t feel happy about it.
