That was a really nice tutorial and the idea is great. However I can't seem to figure out how to make a finished pattern brush. I guess I've forgotten how to calculate the corners of it. You've made them already in the tutorial, so it isn't impossible. but still.

I wasn't able to replicate your process here. Once I used the pattern brush I got an asymmetrical shape. kinda cool, not what I wanted. I'm using CS3 and I didn't notice the same corner options you had when creating the pattern brush, so I assume that's the culprit.

Ashe, I can not be 100% certain without seeing the results. It could very well be a versioning issue. Also check to make sure the end points in the pattern segment do not have a curve, the handles on the bezier end point should be horizontal. You might also check the size of the shape you are applying the pattern to, if it is too small for the pattern segment will double up on each other.

yeah, it's frustrating. This seems to be the best method but I took another crack at it today and got the same results. (by which I mean, still no dice.)

Is there anyway to send me your results? I would have a better idea what is happening

thanks, but I've found that I can get the results you show here by using the blend tool, and it's actually quite a bit faster as well.

I'm in CS6 and found out that Photoshop only automatically generates corners in CC

WHY When I select top and bottom objects and use envelope it creates a single flat line instead of what you are showing, what is the secrret?

make sure the "envelope shape" is abobe the "content" in the arrange order, bring it to the front.

Layers order - "envelope" sublayer needs to be above "content" sublayer. The "envelope itself needs to be one object on one sublayer, not just a bunch of lines in sublayers. I didnt get that either, since author uses bit different terminology I usualy work with like "stacking order" or arrange order. It's not that straight off when you think in different languge than tutorial.
