Adjust for Neutral - Hydrostatic Transmission Control Repair
Adjusting for neutral after repairing the hydrostatic transmission controls is a relatively simple and quick process, so we’ll show you just that this week as a prelude to our short series fixing the sloppy controls and slow reverse on Jeff’s Cub Cadet 1772 beginning next week.
We post more stuff about our various endeavors all over the place!

Good show. It's gets more exciting when you do the narrow frames and you have to crawl under it since the tunnel covers don't come off. Thanks for the video. Ken

One of the reasons I don't keep the narrow frame tractors. The novelty factor is great, but they aren't very kind to work on in that area.
I needed this video 3 years ago lol but thanks for the video

You can buy wheel weights new or used for the old Cubs, and they are pretty universal.

It is a complicated assembly, if you are talking about the hydrostatic pump. Service manual covers the teardown and rebuild.
My old lawnboy/gilson creeps backwards until it gets up to temp, I keep trying to go the easy route without removing the seat pan and fenders because the tweaking bolts are behind the brake disc and above the axle, so I keep adjusting the drag link one turn at a time. It creeps less but I’m almost out of threads
I have an early 90s cub 1440, trying to figure out the hydrostatic drive lever is so stiff while the tractor running. It moves smooth as butter when not running. It's so stiff it almost bends the lever when trying to drive it. Any ideas?

Lubricate the mechanism at the dash tower, where the cross rod pivots. Remove the tunnel cover for transmission and lubricate the control linkages at the hydro there. You will also notice a bushing that may be worn there where the main control rod connects to the hydro control plate.
Would that cause hard starts since the starter is running the pump?

Absolutely. If the brake pedal is pushed down and it doesn't return the controls to neutral, it will definitely increase the load on the starter as it tries to develop pressure and move the rear end that is brakes and stationary.
Good video. Where do you fill the trans up? I saw the 3 bolts that may be where. I need to fill mine

Slide seat forward, there is a disptick tube under the seat. Fill through that tube.

@SolunaGarage Thank you so much. I tried before, but it was stuck. I banged on it a bit with the hamme tonight.. It slid forward and exposed the dip stick! You're awesome. I've been trying to fill the rear up for 2 years.
That fan location seems a bit sketchy lol
