+seldenkid48 By her original effort do you mean singing Natural Woman? I'd have to disagree with you. Carole King wrote the song, and does it so much better. If you mean Aretha trying to aid the womens' movement then I agree completely. While Carole King released her version in 1971 it still resonates so much better with her singing it because she's the one who's feelings were used to write those words. I'm not saying Aretha didn't feel similarly, but it's like having a child when you compose a song. It's part of you in a way that no other person could feel.

A great singer can sing someone elses composition and immediately lay claim to the writer's effort as their own. Ray Charles who was declared by" Rolling Stone " as the best male singer of all time covered a country song titled " I Can't Stop Loving You " and most people only know of Rays near perfect version. Francis Scott Key wrote "The Star Spangled Banner " while watching the British bomb an American position. Are we to say that because he formulated the lyrics that somehow he can transmit more feeling than Whitney's version. Carole is a mediocre singer and a great writer who should never be compared to one of if not the greatest singer of the 20th century.

+seldenkid48 Aretha is a good singer, but calling Carol King a mediocre singer is pretty tasteless of you. I doubt you or a lot of modern singers could sing anywhere near as good, and a lack of loudness on her part doesn't mean she isn't good. It all comes down to a matter of opinion, but this song was written by Carol and her husband while Aretha had a past of being abused by her husband. Very different backgrounds, and very different emotions between these artists. It all comes down to a matter of preference, but I don't like how Aretha over powers this simple piece.

Ability is a function of skills not emotions if this were not so every hopelessly in love women would be able to belt out Jennifer Rush's "Power of Love" understand that real singing requires projection and power. The two women have the same "background". Both sought to sing on a professional level. The keyword here is"professional". Aretha has received worldwide acclaim while the other lady is comparatively unknown as a singer and I am accounting for the album "Tapestry" I would suggest you give some thought to your premise of emotion honing an artist's skills. The adage "Cream rises to the top" certainly rings true over your "background" theory. I will not reply again.

seldenkid48 Good singing is not dictated by power, you should not compare singers because both are extremely talented and can do things the other singer cannot.

+Toni Fashola Carole King wrote it and put it on her album Tapestry which contained another song she had written that another artist had performed (Will You Love Me Tomorrow), and Tapestry broke countless records at the Grammys and won countless records when it was her first record (which she released it at age 28). Carole's version is how it she always wanted it to be performed, but she had to change the orchestration for Aretha. No mean to disrespect the queen Aretha Franklin, but Carole King is definitely what Adele based this cover off of. They're even in the same key. And considering how similar Carole and Adele are career wise, it's no surprise she did it like this. Do not question me Carole King is a goddess that I will defend with my life.

this was nice, but i think she sang it too fast...i would of loved it if she wouldve slowed it down a bit so people can actually interpret the song and feel the vibe its giving....BUT this is a nice cover of one of my favorite songs....
