I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I’d suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.

I think the retirement crisis will get even worse. A lot of people can’t save because of low paying jobs, inflation, and insane rental rates. And now that home ownership is out of reach for middle class Americans, they won’t have a house to retire with either.

Things are a bit strange right now. Inflation is making the dollar weaker for buying things like basic needs, but it's getting stronger against other stuff. So, stuff like stocks, houses and precious metals aren't doing so great because folks are putting their money into banks for safety but I'm worried about my retirement savings losing value fast.

Even if you’re not skilled, it is still possible to hire one. I was a project manager and my personal portfolio of approximately $400k of my retirement pension took a big hit in April due to the crash. I quickly got in touch with a financial-planner that devised a defensive strategy to protect my funds and make profit from my portfolio this red season. I’ve made over $250k since then.

Instead of going all in and buying a house, you can do rental arbitrage (rent out SG HDB rent MY condo) for 2 years and see if the lifestyle suits you. MY is a wonderful place for those who want to retire early at 55. Instead of thinking big house big car, you should focus on living well based on what you can afford. When you hit 70 and need access to good healthcare you can move back to SG. The idea of hiring a bodyguard at that age sounds silly.

I agree with your views but also appreciate what he is trying to do in this video. But this is one of the reasons why Malaysia is cheap. Its actually even cheaper in Colombia, with that kind of money one can even buy a mansion. But then you need also to build high walls, put up 4 towers armed with gatling guns with tower lights and engage some militiamen. If everywhere is as peaceful and almost risk free like Singapore, you would be paying Singapore market prices right?

@marvelcomiks8078 Ya, it is just a sharing. I have friends who bought properties in Malaysia many years old and share the pro and con, thus sharing with this youtuber who is already late in the game in my opinion. If one has more than sufficient funds to retire as this youtuber has claimed, why go to JB ? One should retire at the same level of lifestyle or, better and not downgrade to buy cheaper homes. Anyway, as I said, anyone can share their opinion on youtube but don't get upset or try to justify their views are correct when others have different opinions or experiences. In the same token, others should not be rude in their feedbacks if they feel otherwise.

Hi Mr Loo, thanks for your videos. This is a very helpful perspective of how life can be if we consider a move to Malaysia. I'm in my early 30s and because i am only drawing an average income (around $120k/year) and not intending to get married, it will be a struggle for me to afford a decent private property in Singapore. Hence, I am contemplating getting my own landed property in Malaysia instead. However, I am particularly concerned about the political stability in malaysia. What is your view on this? I'm asking because policy change can happen overnight in Malaysia. Given the local disdain for singaporeans due to us driving up the cost of living, would you be concerned that the malaysian gov would one day take a negative view on the increasing singaporean presence and impose draconian policies targetted at singaporean à la the CLOB saga?

The constant policy flip flops can burn you badly. Eg Forest City was 70% sold to PRC Chinese. When Mahathir returned as PM in 2018, he banned the sale of Forest City property to foreigners and declared that buying such property did not give automatic residency rights. Imagine if you had bought a unit there. The MM2H programme has also undergone major changes with increasingly tough requirements in recent years. If you have the deep pockets and stomach to tolerate all these risks and uncertainty, go ahead and buy Malaysian property.

Great video! Many Singaporeans are unaware that Singapore is an anomaly. The security situation in Msia and the rest of the world is the norm. So basically anywhere you travel will be unsafe if you compare it with Singapore. A ship is safest at the harbour but it's not what the ship is built for. To spend the whole life in Singapore due to fear is such a waste, the frog has no choice but we have the ability to explore the world. Even if all Singaporeans think this way, it is only 3.6million Singapore citizens out of the 8billion world population which represents 0.00045%. It hardly affects anything.

If you want to save costs, you may want to buy direct from developer, developer will usually absorb all buying costs, my experience is about 10% of the purchase price if you buy resale, I chose to buy new and saved on legal fees, stamp duty, agent fees, MOT, SPA fees, state government application fees, take note foreigner buyer's tax of 2% will not be absorbed by the developer.

No place is totally safe. Eveymn Singapore has crimes. One just need to be more careful. My dad lived in Surabaya, Indonesia for close to 30 years. He was robbed once when he came out from Bank. No other burglary or other incidents that he encountered. So is Surabaya safe or dangerous? But i do agreed it is definitely safer to have gated security than having none. Unfortunately, more and more Singaporeans are finding tough to retire in Singapore. Personally, i am unable to see myself retiring in Singapore, as cost of living are far too high. And even based on FRS, the monthly amount we received may not be sufficient to retire...in Singapore.

Crime rate high , means crime rate is high. Dont need to argue so much. Its a risk for sure, whether you accept it or not is your opinion or choice, but showing everyone how safe JB is , isnt doing your viewers any favours.
