    for your question on fencing, electric fences are commonly used with cattle and horses. it is perfectly ethical, as once one animal touches it, the others learn not to. they also arent actively injuring themselves on it to try to escape like the dilophosaurs. hope this helps :)

  • @GoldBean2752

    @GoldBean2752

    yes, the only time that it isn't ethical would be in high stress situations where the animal would try to get out/flee (loading into trailers, etc). I turn my fences off during that because the animals can get trapped in them.

    9:56 Ye, happy for you :( ......................................... Well, hello everybody. As expected the heavy duty fences stopped our Dilo's in their tracks, resulting in a total of 0 escapes in this episode. And with that, I am sad to announce... The Dino News Channel is probably over (not crying). It- it's been a wonderful journey dear viewers. As my last report, please allow me to remind you of our final scores: Loki - 1 Mercury - 4 Seth - 4 Susanoo - 6 Aite - 4 Resulting in total of 19 escapes throughout the series. On an entirely unrelated note, we should rethink if we are treating those Dilophosaurus ethicaly. I mean, is it really fair to show them all those delicious juicy guests slowly frying in the sun just on the other side of the fence and then deny them like that? I say we should remove those silly fences entirely! Ahem. Purely out of concern for our dinosauruses' well being of course. Ummm. It's been The Dino News Channel everybody! Signing out!

    Fair warning about your mega enclosure (I had issues with this as well) - the ai for the dinosaurs is quite bad, so they’ll migrate away from areas with plenty of food and water, then they get lost and don’t know (or don’t want to) return to the only place they can live. I had a mega hadrosaur enclosure which was divided into food types (I thought that it would be cool to have a ‘hadrosaurs of the world’ mega enclosure with different biomes) and the dinosaurs kept getting lost on opposite ends of the enclosure and then began to starve. I ended up scrapping the idea and I had to place down small food islands all along the enclosure to ensure that everyone was happy - although, nothing ever had 100% comfort because they always moved into areas where they could never have 100% comfort and then they just wouldn’t leave.

    I don't know if there is one way glass in this game, but something to block the humans from the dilo's sight might be a good idea. They're so focused on the people that they're constantly hurting themselves and not exploring their environment. Besides that, I enjoy this series very much! And maybe some tree names for the dryos? Like Palm, Birch, Aspen, ect? They're so strangely cute.

    The horns are very much not for defense, though - general consensus based on damage to their frills vs damage on predators shows the horns were more a courting display to establish dominance in herds than to defend against predators. The podcast "Terrible Lizards" has a very in-depth and well-explained episode about ceratopsids and their displays, including the discussion if Torosaurus is indeed a much more mature example of the typical triceratops specimens (even though the evidence atm suggests not).

    I find it hilarious how demonic they made the carnivorous dinosaurs in this game. These animals are constantly looking for a way to devour man-flesh by tearing down metal fences, meanwhile a beautiful little space of pure comfort is just behind them. I wonder what an enrichment toy for a dilophosaurus would look like, and what could be durable enough to handle the play-hunting of such a creature.

    Honestly, could you really call keeping a bunch of dilo’s that have been acclimated to eating staff and tourists behind an impenetrable fence ethical? It might be more humane to euthanize them and start over with some dinosaurs that aren’t going to be constantly trying to break out and eat people. Otherwise they would realistically represent a constant risk and given their acclimation, intelligence and propensity for escape attempts, a dramatically lowered quality of life for the animals. At the very least replace them with other carnivores and move them to a dilo-jail that doesn’t constantly dangle fresh meat just on the other side of the impenetrable fence.

    I like to think that triceratops and tyrannosaurus had a similar relationship to cape buffalo and lions! In that it took specially-adapted t-rexes to consistently hunt them and the trikes would have a kill-on-site instinct for the t-rex's young. To my knowledge, this is not a legitimate theory, but it makes sense in my brain.

    There's multiple kinds of level 5 fence, if you look, there are 3 versions, one being the full concrete wall, and I think there's an electrified one but I noticed it last episode and haven't gone back to check

    Electric fencing is ethical when used properly. If you place rocks near the base of the fence will it stop dinos from trying to break out in that area?

    the triceratops in the movie was actually being poisoned! it's never explained in the movie, because it was cut out and deleted they ate stones the way some animals in present day do to help them digest food, and in the book (tho it was a stego in the book), it turns out the stones the dino was eating were too close to some poisonous berries so every six weeks when it replenished the stones in its stomach, it managed to eat some berries and got sick. the movie had dr sattler pick up and play with some stones, which was a remnant of the deleted scene that would have explained that if they hadn't cut it out.
