    Very useful. Many thanks! I hadn't thought to do a curved seam at the knee, but it looks so much nicer than the straight seam I've tried and discarded (because I don't like the look) in the past.

    I love your gentle, easy instruction and quieting music. I am just embarking on making dolls. I know you have a family and other responsibilities. Can you share how you schedule your day so you have plenty of Time to work in your studio? It seems like my day dissolves like grains of sand on a river bank, and I cannot get time. How do you do it?

  • @Figandme

    @Figandme

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Heidi, Thank you for your kindness in leaving this nice comment. Regarding my schedule, you have to understand this is my full time job, so no matter where I focus my attention, it is always devoted to something to do with doll making. Over the years I have tried to schedule my hours a certain way, but in all honesty it is pretty organic. Some days I am tired of sitting at the sewing machine, so I knit, design, order supplies, answer emails, clean the studio, sketch dolls, etc. Other times I spend the entire day editing videos for KZread, Patreon or my online courses. The engine that powers it all is my absolute passion for making dolls, so I have to carve time out from working on them, to do all the little things my business entails. Having lots of fun ensures you do stay connected to your true calling though, so I am positive you will find a way! Wether that is setting an intention to devote some early hours to doll making only, or part of your weekend, etc. When I started, I worked mainly from 10 pm until 3 or 4 in the morning...until one day my children were much older and I could work only during the day time. I can work as little or as much as I like every day, so I do end up working a lot because I love it. Sending a warm hug and hoping you find a system that keeps you focused and creative.

    Can a doll with such joints stand? While it looks great for adding movement, it also looks like it sacrifices a lot of stiffness.

  • @Figandme

    @Figandme

    Жыл бұрын

    Well, if you are using the type of "hinge" joints on the legs, I assume you would want the sort of movement for a baby, who would not need to stand. If you use the type of joint at the knee, then the sort of feel you want for your doll is the one where she can comfortably sit with her knees bent...so therefore another no. I use the hinge joints on the arm/shoulder, when I use them on legs is for my baby doll pattern. I normally don't break the leg with the knee seam, I use it very rarely, because I do like my dolls to stand propped. When I need a doll that is fully mobile, then I sculpt around an armature.
