Adding HDMI To The Original PlayStation

Ойындар

Today I wanted to show a project I started this week where I was looking to build the ultimate PlayStation system. To start I wanted to take a look at a new option when it comes to getting the best possible video from the console: HDMI. This board will pull the best possible signal from the motherboard and convert it for our newer TVs and monitors.

    Would be cool, no doubt about it. We all know theres currently a solution via HDD. It is fast and reliable. But certainly it is kind of old and not everybody has an HDD. So yeah, even though FreeMCBoot with a HDD pretty much does what an ODE would, the ODE would really be like the ultimate, faster and easier solution. Although expensive, for sure.

    @@tyisafk There are so many easy ways to play PS2 games I can't see an ODE happening. Pure digital HDMI is being made by citrus3000psi and chriz2600 (DCDigital, PSDigital etc) though, and boy will the PS2 benefit from it! (hopefully).

She loved and played the hell out of them but it all got left behind in a house they had to leave when she was about 13 cus of life stuff.. breaks my heart in many ways, that story :( *Edit:* rereading your comment; I don't know what made my type this reply.. but you somehow hit me in the nostalgia/guilt/remorse feels

    Great video, however, the sad truth most retro gamers dont want to hear is that PS1 looks its best on a CRT with the default AV cables. It smooths out the jaggies and you cant see the dithering. Anything above S-Video, Component up to HDMI just makes the image way too sharp and jagged and you see dithering EVERYWHERE. Silent Hill 1 is barely playable for me with all the dithering.

    Scart must of been on of the longest lasting audio/visual connectors ever .Must of had at least a 20 year life span before something better come along

    You should definitely do a video installing the XStation. That would make this the absolute Ultimate PlayStation. Edit: There's also something called the MODE but I've been seeing that people prefer the XStation.

    He would need to get someone to install it for him as he doesn't actually do these installs himself, he just records clips of him poking things with his soldering iron to fool you into thinking he did everything himself. The X-Station is better than the MODE simply because it offers the same basic functionality at a fraction of the cost, and looks way neater when installed.

    I'm interested in adding this to my X-Station equipped model, but.... 1) I had a really hard time with X-Station, now I'm totally scared to open it up again and screwing things up. 2 ) I have it hook it up to a little crt with rgb scart cables. It looks amazing. 3) I think duckstation is amazing on pc, and since I have a memcardpro I can sync memory cards if I want to play some psx on the big screen. If I manage to get some extra money , I might invest on making another ps1 ( I have another compatible one ) with x-station + hdmi + other mods to make the ultimate version... but for now I think this will sit around for a while as a dream.

    The Xstation ODE for Ps1 is phenomenal although it’s on compatible with PSU-18 and late 8 motherboards. I’m pretty sure the 18 is compatible with Xstation and ps1 digital

    X-station is only compatible with a PU7 PU8 or PU18 motherboard. There is the PSIO from Cybdyn sold through Stone Age Gamer. I opted for that since since I didn't want to go looking for specific motherboards.

    I was originally going to criticize the choice of spending a considerable amount of money to play ps1 games on HDMI, considering a PS2 gives you component (close if not equal to HDMI in many examples). And since the ps2 has literally a ps1 inside, it really might be the most convenient solution. But then i remember i spent more than a few dollars on carby, a mod chip, and SD/SD2SP2 for my gamecube, when i could have just used my Wii with retro compatibility over component. So yeah, i respect this. Enjoy your mods people, they are very, very rewarding.

    @@user-yk1cw8im4h Uh... No pal. HDMI directly from the ps2 must look gorgeous, yes. But dont throw dirt on PS2. Its component output is great, not good, great. I hooked mine up with original PS3 component cables to a Sony WEGA KLV 21SR2. It looks great, asks nothing to a modern display. So yeah, i respect hdmi. But ps2 component is great. You might be using cheap cables and a modern tv, or a cheap crt.

    Can this be done with solder, or does it need to specifically be sodder?

  • @AndehX

    @AndehX

    They are the same thing. "Sodder" is just the american butchering of the word "solder" The correct pronunciation of the word is infact "sole-der". Voultar himself is american, and he pronounces it "sole-der"
