John is a funny guy (and/or whoever actually edited the video, which I guess may have also been John) Also +1 for memories of sleepovers and all night gaming sessions when I was a kid.

Haha, That was cute. We just had one, mostly unplanned, this week-end with a couple of friends but we spent our time between arcade emulation and co-op games on steam. I think next time i'll take out the old stuff and see what would be nice for a 4 person experience. I'm mostly thinking about Dreamcast, GC and maybe PS2/Xbox if I find any good 4 player games.

I remember my old friend from the 90's we used to play Doom with link cable for hours. He brought his 13 inch CRT TV from his home and it was ridiculous to setup. We ended up placing the TV on top of our school textbooks so that we had even viewing angle. My room used to get so hot we needed two fans to cool inside my room. The gaming back then used to be about gaming in purest form. It's kinda hard to explain to anyone that wasn't alive for it. The game used to be fun to play. Most had an awesome intro cutscene to hype us at the beginning, it was mandatory to not skip them because we loved it. The games were presented in a different way. Good old times!

So what people don't understand is how new and rare these experiences were. The concept of 3d gaming was very new and exciting. There were a handful of rudimentary 3d games on the SNES and Genesis. Once the ps1 and Saturn hit, it was a revolution. It was a sign of a change, of a new era. It was a defining era in gaming. Sure the PC crowd had 3d games prior but this was the first time 3d was the target for the masses. The gulf between affordability for console and PC was bigger back then. Also online play was nearly non existent. Having to find friends, before cellphones and web groups, with the same hardware and software was challenging if you wanted to play a link cable game. Next one of you would have to have either and extra tv or a portable one. The odds were not with you but if you did make the connection it was magical. It was glorious. Best day of your life.

SamuraiVader he announced the PS2Digital (originally called PS2HDMI) in December of 2018 and stopped in September of 2019, because he was having issues getting certain things to work on PS2Digital. He than started working on PS1Digital so he could use what he learned from it to make the PS2D the best it could possibly be and learn how to fix the issues he was having and know more about the hardware. Now it’s August and the PS1D should be officially coming out in September I believe. So development could be about a year. So it could be a couple months for the PS2D after the PS1D comes out. I remember in March him saying the PS1D was close to coming out and now its coming out in September i think. I also remember him saying the PS2D was close a few months before he stopped developing it. Shows how rocky the development can be. I think it’ll be a few months before it PS2D comes out maybe even in December for the anniversary of his announcement. Could be longer 🤷🏼‍♀️ i just can’t wait to play it

original hardware is more reliable and games always work compared to emulation not all games run perfect in emulators you always have to adjust the settings and bios, all games won’t work the same. kinda tedious. also not everyone can afford a pc to emulate and some people just prefer the original hardware look and feel games of games and the experience. plugging in your ps2 or ps1 controller is pretty inconvenient to. the ps1digital gives people and original hardware enthusiasts more of a reason to not use emulators cause now they can play their games in higher quality on modern HDTVs. I always think this plays some games in 60fps cause it interpolaces the footage which doubles the frame rate and resolution double of the game is 240i and 480i

Guys, this is not news for you, but Audi's audio is really quite a lot lower than John's (on my phone w/o earphones) and that makes me want to adjust volume constantly. Consider giving him his own mic or so, that should help a lot. Thanks heaps for the great content, as always!

Also found a 20 pin model Saturn locally for $150 CAD have the Fenrir installed already and have a SCART cable on the way to use with my OSSC. Retro-Bit Saturn controllers and a Brook PS4>PS1 adapter so I can have solid wireless controller setups for each. This video totally made me go yea fuck it, I'm getting both a Saturn and PS1 setup as there's just an overwhelming amount of awesome titles on them.

interesting tech and glad it exists... the problem is, these boutique kits are very expensive and will sell out in no time -- once the production is halted, they will probably never be sold again. a simpler and arguably better option is to get yourself a 20" CRT on the cheap from a local seller and play your retro games as intended. the flat screen CRTs from 2005 ish have component and s-video inputs and will make all ps1/ps2 games look fantastic. a wire shelving unit will allow you to fit all of your retro gaming hardware within an 18"x36" footprint which is very reasonable for those who have limited space.

The amount of creativity during the 5th gen in general and esp Ps1 was pretty outstanding. So many great games didn't get the marketing or sales they deserved and you showed one...Disruptor, fantastic 60fps first person shooter. Stuff like Omega Boost, Silent Bomber, EInhander, Vanark, Colony Wars, Armored Core, Brave Fencer Musashi, Ace Combat + many more. Loads of innovation and great content. The 6th gen keep it going too.

I always think that I played all the good PSX games but I guess not. iS- internal section and the featured Raycrisis, Ray Tracers & RayStorm are now on my playlist for next week. That PSX library was magical and new fan translations released as late as 2020. The Saturn ain´t bad but its solid library isn´t remotely on this level. It sucks though how obscure and often never rereleased or remastered many good Saturn games still are. Sega really needs to get on that.
