Adding CarPlay To My BMW i3
Newer (but not new) cars like my 2014 BMW i3 have modern infotainment systems, but typically lack the CarPlay integration that people are used to. In many places, having this integration isn't a want - it's a need! I currently live in a state where handheld phone usage is illegal, so it's extremely important to have a good in-car system.

I did the same with mine, quite easy when you get going. Just need to set the sound to aux on the bmw menu, then navigation plays sound, use radio apps for music! Great video.

Great video! I did this to my i3 a few months back. I had to run the aux cable from the roadtop into a usb adapter then into the cars usb port to get sound working. You seemed a lot calmer doing yours than I was 😃

I heard there is a much simpler version of this box which requires much less work to install. Ever heard of it?

I have not! I think you have to use a solution like this, unless your car came with a newer version of iDrive that is compatible with a CarPlay software update.

@@garyhoward4064 oh yeah! Installation below the rear seat instead of in the glovebox. It is $200 more than the box I used 🤯

what do they mean by wireless? the connection to the phone?

Correct! It uses bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
