All you need is a full spectrum plant light. Your front room tank with the strong light and sun through the window, and they'll grow massive. I recommend nilocg fertilizer. It's all in one easy to use once or twice a week.
@snapped4433

You should really put a layer of worm, peat moss, dirt and a little rock salt in the bottom of the tank. Plant the plants then put a layer of your desired base ontop of that mixture. It alows the plants to get nutrients walst the tank gets started and also provides a home for bacteria to break down the dead plants, poop ect
One of the plants is an Anubias, which needs to be mounted to a rock or piece of wood. Other than that it's very easy to grow and has strong leaves

It is called a rhizome. What you did is fine just leave them in the pot. I think that the goldfish with eat everything eventually. Good luck tho.

@@-__-_--_---_- if i remember right its called the rhizome and its where all the leaves come from if it gets buried it can kill the plant in a tank with sand substrate I agree with attach it to something off the bottom simply because goldfish tend to move sand around looking for food which can bury the rhizome

Thanks I just gone to a fish shop and they have anubias nana and I thought you just plant it on the substrate even tho i say some on a driftwood lol
That is an awesome variety of plants! You will probably want a deeper substrate, also you will want to remove the container and rock wool that is around the roots. But my fish absolutely love having live plants in their tank. Hope yours do as well.

You don’t have to remove the net cup and Rock wool. They actually contain beneficial bacteria and adequate fertilizer, making it easier for them to acclimate.

Oddly enough I never knew it needed to be attached to anything like that, but I decided to stick it in the eye of my artificial skull with moss on it, and now the roots are spreading all through the inside of it and even coming out of the other eye, it has almost doubled in leaf count since I got it, lucky guess on my part lol.
You’ll want to take them out of the plastic holders and plant them in the substrate. You may want to add a bit more sand to help them root as well. Also, it looks like you’ve got some anubias, so for that, just tie it to a rock or piece of wood and throw it in wherever. They shouldn’t be planted because then they’ll die pretty quickly. That being said, I’m not an expert on aquarium plants, but I’ve had my fair share of experience with a few of them. If anyone else has any other advice, feel free to reply to my comment so it’s all in the same place and easier for Luke to find!

Definitely needs deeper substrate, and monitor water conditions closely after adding it. Aquarium soil can cause high PH spikes from the nutrients dissolving into the water. This should level out over time, but it's important to test daily for about the first month if you're new to planted tanks With goldfish, as you already know, securing the plants is essential. Deeper substrate helps, but you can super glue just about any plant to a rock so long as you don't coat all the roots and risomes with the glue. A gravel layer under the aquarium soil can both save you money on expensive aquarium soil and give you a firmer place for the rocks to be nestled in, and eventually have the roots grow around and in to Soaked, sanitized driftwood makes for a great piece of hard decor that won't be harsh on or tear your fancy fishes' long fins. You can attach the anubias to this, and lots of moss to grow on it and provide an "encouraged snack" for your goldfish. Choose something fast growing and long (Java moss or Christmas moss are great), and don't skimp on how much you cover the driftwood with it initially, if you don't add enough they'll eat it down bare before it can establish and grow. Dental floss and fishing wire both work to attach the moss to the wood Good luck! Edit: grammar

In my experience, goldfish eat all the plants you could think of. But there is one hope to keep plants and goldfish. You need the most resilent ones, idealy sword plants, the ocelot variety is pretty. You need to give them the conditions to thrive (co2, great light, nutrients and substrate). They need to grow faster than they are being eaten. And that's the only way i've been able to keep plants with goldfish, otherwise they just eat everything 😅
I feel like the greatest crossover in this hobby would be a serpa design collab where he makes a goldfish aquascape for you.
Waiting for someone to choke on it, keep us updated If you want some advice - get roottabs or fertilizer for it. Java Fern, Anubis are good starter plants. They dont need to be rooted. If these plants die, try some of those. Put taller plants in the back, make a bit of a slope (higher in back), and have fun!

Hello Luke! As a goldfish keeper in an aquarium with plants, this line of videos is really interesting for me. In my experience, goldfish love eating duckweed, so as long as u provide em with duckweed from another tank, eating it might prevent their inner demons of eating the other plants. Cheers from Spain, mate!
Luke is going to learn a lot in the comments lol

Dustin's Fish tanks got me into fish a long time ago. This is a great partnership!
This man is getting things from people left to right
Nice. I hope some of them make it!
U should take them out of the plastic containers so their roots can grow more. Also, some of those plants cannot be planted directly into the substrate. Some of them will also come with gel on the roots which you should remove before planting them They’re such beautiful plants!
That looks so good

"613th video of me requesting luke to name a chunky goldie Mr.Blaze" It must be the most fiery goldfish🔥🔥
I saw your other vid about how you put your turtles in a glass container to feed them. I think one of the main reason being is because when turtles are on the ground floor look out for predators predators tries to sneak up on them and eat them so I stay alert under on the floor instead of eating or sleeping my turtle does the same thing so I can’t keep her to close the floor
Finally I’ve been waiting for decoration!
the goldfish tank looks like a jungle
Anubias is the only plant my goldfish have ever left alive
Yesss so glad!!
Oof... i say after watching this, plants that gonna be perfect for luke as a beginner is anubias honestly. They are like photos just under water👍
Goldfish: Thanks for the salad bar!!!!
Over all looks good ❤️
i love planted tanks! i have a lot of plants in my own goldfish tank, so it’s really nice to see someone with a big audience like you try out plants as well. you’ll want to take them out of the pots and pool the wool off of their roots, be gentle and slow to keep the roots in tact. some more sand and even some aqua soil in the tank would help them stay rooted and healthy, i have about 2 inches of sand on top of a layer of Tropica branded Aquasoil and i never have plants uprooted! good luck, luke!
I bet the goodfish are so excited with the new look of their house

You should try to keep shrimp in a planted aquarium that’s what I did and it’s my favorite tank
Ugh I'm glad you got plants. Dustin's fish tanks are the #1 place to buy plants. It looks so horrible though! Let me help you plzzzz!
Except pothos, Luke is an expert at that🤣🤣
I kinda like the empty tank
This is so cool!
Good job Luke you’re finally putting plants in your tanks
I RECEIVED MY SIGNED TUBBY TOBEY 💪🏾
They look good
Yes! Live plants!
Some of those plants are heavy rooters so you’ll need to buy root tabs. Also liquid fertilizer. Make sure to remove the plants from the plastic cups and sponge so the roots can grow and that’ll prevent your goldfish from being able to rip them out of the substrate.
I have plants in my goldfish aquarium, I have a fantail and ranchu. I get plants that don't need to be in the substrate because I know they will uproot them. So I super glue them onto some rocks and never had a problem its been almost a year now. I have java fern, mosses and moss balls. They snack on the mosses but now they don't probably it tasted bad to them. Often they eat algae and bacteria build up on the plants and that really helps control algae growing on the plants. Good luck luke! edit: Duckweed is good food for goldfish
Hi Luke, you should try to get a tank with potting soil (about 1 inch) some nutrient, and cap it with blasting sand from tractors supply’s (about double the amount of potting soil, and you well get better plant survival rates and it will be harder for the fish to unroot them, best of luck
That looks sick
bro is starting the plant battle royale
Those banana plants look really healthy!
Imagine if Luke saw this
This is awesome because this is exactly where I’m at right now. Thanks for the video.
I got my Toby today, he’s so soft!!
The fish look so cramped in there! Maybe you should either put the plants more to the side or spread them out to other tanks?
I honestly think more plants have died on him than goldfish and I've seen him make iced tea 🤣🤣 *Forever In His Heart (and stomach) May They Rest* Jk lol ❤️
They look like nice quality plants
You put them into the substrate with weight (like ceramic rings for example that you can buy for aquarium plants) and put some large aquarium pebbles around the plant/s,close to the plants stem/s.That will prevent them from digging them up
Looks like some of them are expensive ones and some are... ones that I would never introduce to my aquariums if I had one
The least you could do for the goldfish is adding hardscape (natural driftwood and rocks), then larger epiphytes and floating stem plants which do not get eaten or do not depend on substrate roots
You got the best basics right there! The short green ones, you can glue to a rock, but not in the substrate. It’s called anubias, and it’s the best plant to keep with goldfish ❤ 😉
Dustin is the best!
My goldfish have valisneria, crypt wendtii, and anubias in their tank, with dirt bags under the sand for nutrients, and I've had no problems. I also have pothos on top, malaysian trumpet snails to stir up the sand, and three mystery snails to clean up leftover food. They are flourishing! (It's a 55 gallon with an air pump rated for 80 gallons, a sponge rated for 75 gallons, and a second sponge rated for 40 gallons, though technically its now my backup sponge for new tanks and was my only filter for months with zero issues)
Need a thick layer of substrate for sure 😊
I had an Amazon Swords plant in my Goldie tank and I had to take it out and put it in a different tank until it grows larger bc they were eating the new growth on it and were uprooting it- Amazon swords just never die for some reason lol
My goldfish literally ate all plants I ever got. No survivors. Immaterial of me buying the fattest aqua plant books and following instructions
You will definitely need more sand. Maybe 1 1/2 to 2 inch. This will help you root the plants! You also need to remove the plastic tray and foam.
Love Dustin's ❤️
Bro left every plant in the basket
It helps a lot when you Take the Ring Off and burry about 1-2 cm of the plant so it can root more easyly
10/10 aquascaping, just like mine! I just kinda, y'know, bury all the roots, but hey that's just me 😅😂
Goldfish will for sure eat duckweed. I used to grow it in a separate tank and then scoop some out to feed my goldfish. They will eat it all if you keep it in their tank. I think they will eat some of the other ones, but I’ve had luck with sword plants and Anubias. They don’t eat those. The turtles will eat duckweed too. I would keep a colony of it in an empty tank if you want a great source of vegetation for your fish and turtles.
Nice to know I’m not the only Aquarium Hobbyist unable to keep plants from dying ❤
There's also a Clairence who chokes on plants, you forgot to mention 😂
Light helps them grow you can get some attachments on the tank to plant the plants in I have them Make sure that they are in the sand
Actually the substrate looks barren. It needs proteins and essential supplements for the plants to survive also . Forget about the goldies eating them.
Hell yes I’m new and I need this lol
For one, these are tropical aquarium plants so they need to be housed in warm water, and you always take them out of the cup
So cool
Hi I love the vids I bought your merch
I love gold fish
I am your biggest fan
So the tall broad-leaved plants look to be Amazon swords, the lacey green ones are water sprites, the smaller green ones are a species of Anubias, the banana-looking ones are usually referred to as banana plants, the ones with a bulb look to be either Red/pink or Tiger lotus plants, and the red & green ones are a species of Stem Plant (stuff like Ludwigia). Swords and Anubias are fine with goldfish. They can munch on them, but it usually won't get too far out of your control. Water Sprites can be eaten by goldfish, but they grow extremely fast and should grow faster than they can eat them. Never kept Banana plants with Goldfish, so I can't say much about that. Stems can usually be torn apart, and sand can suffocate these plants, so I wouldn't recommend them, but it's up to you there. I've not tried lotus plants with goldfish, but their leaves in my 29-gal Molly tank are about 5-6 inches round and pad out on the surface, so you might be able to keep them with your goldfish if they grow big/fast enough. Best tips I can give is to only plant the bulb of the lotus about 1/2 to 3/4 down. Too far, and the bulb dies off and rots away. You can also just let it sit on the sand and slowly root itself down as time goes on. Try acclimating your plants before putting them in. Much like fish, some plants are sensitive to drastic water changes, and might die off immediately if you just put them into a new tank. The leaves of some plants will die off anyway, and new ones with grow in their place when introduced to a new tank. Some plants like Java Ferns also grow multiple new plants from dying leaves.
I used to have my plants die too. Wishing the best for you!
the water is so clear
I love your videos i subbed because in 5 months (Christmas) im getting 1 goldfish i hope i get a girl and its my first ever fish pet!! Im gonna name her Chippie 😊
Ive done a little research on plants you’ll want a co2 tank reader and read up on what the certain plants need, sunlight and fertilizer gel capsules
Just a tip make sure ur lights have a BLUE light on them because without blue they will wither and die ( not blue mode like regular lighting as well as some blue bulbs) and if I doesn’t have any get another growth light for the plants and add either liquid fertilizer or root tablets
In the past year I have bought plants from 4 different places. All of Dustin's plants are still alive ♡ Its where I will buy my next ones. I want some duck weed...
Yo, source me this dude, those are some beautiful quality plants. I'd love to buy from him
Theres plenty of aqauscapers here on youtube thatll help you learn how to scape and how to take care of plants 💜
Good luck plants!
Get some aquarium liquid fertilizer and route tabs. I like aquarium co-op fertilizer. The lotus and the sword really need it. And make sure that the Anubias and if you got Java fern is not fully in the substrate or the can rot and die. I’m not an expert, but I’ve killed enough aquarium plants in my time in the hobby and this has worked for me.
Maybe you should ask on how to do proper substrate by someone with expirience on that part- as I don't think blasting sand is exactly ideal for plants
My goldfish loves duckweed, cabomba, watersprite, guppy grass, mossballs, amazon sword plants and Christmas's moss. They gnaw and chomp all of them but the duckweed is their favorite that it stands no chance that they just gulp them for minutes. I found out that they don't like water lettuce that's the only plant I successfully propagate in a Goldfish pond.
I’d say if you really want a good plant for your goldfish, I would go with water sprite because it is fast growing, it adapts very well, and I have been keeping it in my goldfish tank for a while and it has been doing very well. And as long as you have a bright aquarium light, it usually can adapt to not having a grow light.
When you're a fish lover but don't know how to decorate the aquarium XD
