This is not about port speed. Of course today they would put a thunderbolt port or something similar. This is about how Apple over time discarded really revolutionary ideas for the "revolutionary" opening of laptops with one finger or the obsession with fingerprints. A laptop is a tool for God's sake, what is important is performance, upgradeability and a sufficient number of different ports that will satisfy the different needs of consumers.

Oh yeah, I do remember that my old MacBook Pro I still have has it
Framework is more Versatile
I had the only 15" with Expresscard/34 (i never actually used it) and never realized that usb3 existed for it! Makes me wonder if a WiFi-AX card (i guess intel although I'd nees opencore legacy patcher to use it) for expresscard existed
My guy has never heard of HP elitebook
The solution was always there, they just didn't want us to have it
But only the 17" ones as far as I remember
It's like framework laptops but before framework.
We have thunderbolt now..
Whatever this one did in the past, thunderbolt can do and more!
You can do all this and more nowadays and without buying expensive accessories. I mean you can watch live tv online for free
Thunderbolt is better, can do everything and more than that without using that much space inside the laptop
That port can be used to add a GPU when docked too.
Yeah, I'm sure it's better than a thunderbolt port mate. 😂
Only Macbooks have this port... as well as almost every other laptop laptop from 2003 to 2015. It is called an pressCard and there are a few variants. My ProBook 6360 that I daily drive has a 3 port USB 3.0 expansion card in it. Compaq 615 and 610 have it Toshiba A300 has it Any ProBook and EliteBook from the era has it HP 6720s 6730s 6830s 6735b all have it Every HP nc and nx had the port. As well as many other laptops that I do not own.
ExpressCard/34 was a PCIE bus Extender capable and it was replaced by Thunderbolt and the form factor was just a narrower PCMCIA card style that was from the 90's it was Apple trying to show off Intel tech as there own.
"Only MacBook's from 2006 to 2011 have this port" I have a 15" MacBook Pro 2010 and it does NOT have this port. Wiki says Apple offered it on the MacBook Pro 2006 to 2011 on the 17 inch models. The 15 inch models only got it to 2008 (these have the SD card slot starting in 2009)
"Especially from apple"😂😂😂
What I thought was odd, was the 2012 MacBook did not have a blu ray drive for the price. Same for I Macs. Then the super drive from apple does not support blu ray. Whats more annoying. Is the lack of an SD card slot unless it’s a pro. That should not have gone away, then came back as a pro only feature. Or magsafe came back, to have 2 usb c ports on the air models. Apple seems to be all over the place.
Some thinkpads still have those today
My 2012 mbp 15” has this port…

Well damn. This old ass thing is even older than I thought. 😬 had it for like 4 years now thinking it was a 2012. 😑 I coulda sworn it was… I think they’re using that atom smasher thing again. Stuff… keeps being just slightly off more and more. That or I’m loosing my mind. Both? Idk. But I have an ooold ass Mac. 🫠 and now I know exactly how old. 🤦🏼♂️
My laptop doesn't have that, but it does have a smar card reader and i'm gonna see if there's a Wikipedia article on it
my thunkpad p50 also has one
Well well well, i have a macbook pro 2010 and guess what, it doesn't have that weird slot thingy
They should have kept that
Apple crap will always be crap. BUT, you got a shiny logo for all that money!
Usb-C? omg 2010 macbook officialy has more ports than the latest.
My dell also got it
Sure. But most of those extra cards need specific drivers. Not made for macs
Bro we’ve had expansion slots on computers since the first personal computer. All laptops used to have them until we started getting obsessed with making as thin a laptop as we could
oculink and USBC PCIe pass through exist
Old samsung laptop has got this port as well😂
Now all these can be connected via usb
If apple brings this back it could kill framework 💀
3G is gone where I live (same for gsm)

Same sucks that these are useless now
i have a 2012 mac book pro dang
customize?! apple of today: "NO! just buy a new one!"
More versatile than USB-C?
Early oculink?? Early Xbox storage expansion?? Framework??
In no way is that mort more versatile than USB-4 lol
Lmao more versatile than a simple USB C Thunderbolt port? What a joke
Quando facevano ancora compiter seri.
I mean usb4 is pretty verasatile, but i guess you cant really integrate things into the laptop with it.
Oh yeah, I hate how not versatile USB-C is 😂
How is it more versatile than a thunderbolt port?
We should bring it back
@leocompany

Why should we? It got replaced by thunderbolt which is faster and more versatile. It also is able to transport pcie x4

WHERE Can I Find These Expansion Card In 2024?
How is it more useful than Thunderbolt 4?!?!
So just give the dongle a place to live inside huh?
So, thunderbolt but worse?
Thunderbolt...
Dog thunderbolt usb 4...😅
Framework laptop's grand daddy
i’m confused about the “especially from the likes of apple” part, macbooks have basically what every other laptop manufacturer are putting on their devices. do you want a disc drive or something ??
It's amazing how far we've regressed.
Mine doesn’t have it while is from 2009
