Nah, logically thinking, the airplane wheels are real tires, not lego tires, therefore actual rubber marks is the only one that makes sense even though its for lego

This is easily the most realistic runway I've seen in lego. Everything from the tire marks to the landing zone to the correct runway numbers. You never cease to amaze me with your city. Keep up the hard work!

Well then Lego people know nothing about airports! I found some inaccuracies which were quite Infuriating (wrong reason for turn around, not enough taxiways coming off the runway especially compared to the airport in the comparison which is Prague I think? (I play WOA, that’s where the blue light shot one comes from) but either way I still found those quite infuriating.

@@golemofiron7250This is most likely not an INT'l airport (judging my size of city), so it probably would not have heavy traffic, thus not needing too many exit taxiways. although yes, that is not why turnaround sections are used, it's not that bad. the creator still did an incredible job.

In the Woa clip the Airport is Innsbruck Airport. Innsbruck Airport only has one Runway with 2 Taxiways connecting to it. @@golemofiron7250

Just an idea, but since it wouldn't make sense for planes to be coming in for a landing really close to the tops of skyscrapers, what if the runway's position on the table is switched to the side closest to the wall? That way the city's placement could make more sense since it won't be in the flight path, and moving the skid marks further away from where people will view it could make the tiles look better, since you said they look better from a distance. As for the airport terminal, I think a cool idea could be to make the terminal close to the edge of the table with an open side facing the room. This could allow really cool details to be put into the terminal and have them be easily seen by people, since I love your ability to decorate interiors and tell stories that way. I feel like the inside stories you've loaded the city with will be mostly hidden to the casual crowd that visits, and putting details in a readily seen terminal could get more people looking for the other stories you've hidden throughout. Also, with stuff like motorized conveyor belts hidden in the floors of the airport, Lego people could be rigged to move inside the airport, which would add lots of life to this section. I love your content and have been watching since this was in the house, and I can't wait for the next installment!

In the big open field, I think you should add a small hangar for private jets or small privately owned planes, such as Cessnas. Adding a super short runway is just kind of awkward, I also think the airport terminal ought to be a bit bigger, or you should have the train station be a terminal on the side, there just isn't enough space.

For the terminal, you should add a multi-story car park too, and a taxi pick up and drop off point. Or have a car park just a little away from the terminal with a park and ride bus service (or tram)

What about adding a hanger for planes? I think this would be great because with big hanger doors open, its a building you could really see the scene inside. Maybe with some plane maintenance going on inside? Also, I like the brick built skids better, but I think with just a little less black.

Definitely like the brick built markings. At a distance, they simulate the effect very well. The tire marked ones, I feel would go mostly unnoticed by the viewer, since they are more faint.

Hello! Real pilot here! I love this airport because for the most part it is actually realistic to life and flying! I really appreciate the effort! Good work!

As a student pilot: Man that runway looks awesome! Even the tire markings. Personally, I like the brick built version better, that is way more realistic I think. The only thing what I would change is the backtrack section of the runway, I would make it a little bit more round, and build it a little bit further away from the side of the runway. But honestly, that is impressive! Aviaiton is a very complex world, and you managed to think about all these small details... Keep up the great work Man, you are building a wonderful city!

I am enthusiast about the new airport. Curious how it would end. Recommendations: keep it to one runway. For the left out space: - hangars; - small fire / rescue brigade station - helipads - oil silos - I would move the pier a bit inwards then create a stand alone train station next to it. Preferably covered with glass on an arch structure. Good luck

This one is probably actually quite small, like maybe a tiny regional airport on an island. Normally, you'd expect a huge terminal, with shuttle trains, hotels, a big parking garage, and don't forget the ILS antennas, and the fences around the whole thing. And then the control tower, security posts, shopping centre, maintenance hangar, airline offices, fire station. To build all that out of lego (at minifigure scale), I don't think the entire mueseum-to-be would be big enough 😃

This is the most realistic airport I've ever seen in Lego, absolutely outstanding work!

I'm a new viewer (and now subscriber) to your channel, so I'm not sure if this has been suggested yet, but it would be so cool if your museum included a video hub where patrons could select a category (for example: wild west village, tram line, mountain, harbor, etc.) and then they could view the relevant KZread videos that show your building of each particular area. Part of the reason I think your channel is so popular (aside from your obviously wonderful technical LEGO-building skills) is the level of care and detail you put into the documentation of the city's growth and fluid redevelopment. The museum would be empty without that clear evidence of dedication and commitment. Great work!

When you started to build the runway in the video, I immediately thought, that I will recommend you to create some rubber patch on it. But you've already thought about it :D Btw I would recommend the first approach, with using darker lego bricks, and the area with the "rubber" could be longer, even 2x, as what you've built, I think. Also you can build that a bit lighter, with using less black pieces and more dark grey, and it would be more realistic with a little bit more gradient in the color at the edges of the patch. But it's awesome!!!

You know, the airfield stuff isn't really my cup of tea but it's a testament to your video quality and Lego skills that I still really enjoyed the episode! Seeing those markings come together is super satisfying. Personally I really like the brickbuilt abrasion over the rubber version, which seems a little too subtle even besides the inherent appeal of brickbuiltness

Its crazy how you can just build something without instructions and just using a reference. When I was young it was actually hard to do it WITH INSTRUCTIONS.

The brick built marks look better than the rubber I think. LED's in the yellow lines, if I understood what you meant correctly, seems like it would be major overkill.😅 Great video as always. I'm looking forward to seeing the airport finished, and I think the train station inside the airport building seems very fun, but if you're going to move the whole area later, it might end up looking out of place or cause trouble as you have to either integrate or remove it. Something to keep in mind. Thank you for sharing this project with us! 😄

The lego brick scuff marks look like poor approximations of what it would look like..the tyre scuffs is LITERALLY what it looks like..how can the brick then be better when it can only ever simulate what the tyre just IS?

@@micabryant4513 for starters, the city is built out of Lego; that kind of super realism looks very out of place. And though the current brick built marks are rather abrasive, the rubber ones, on top of looking like they don't belong in the Lego city, are way too hard to see if you're a bit further away. Of course, it could look better in person, but most of us won't be able to travel and see the build in person, and I feel like it would be easy to not notice the rubber marks, which would be a shame, since it's such a nice detail!

I think if he was using some kind of non LEGO products to make those scuff marks rather than actual LEGO tyres I have an issue with it as a purist i thought it was genius bordering on unlawfulness lol

As a long time big fan, I'm always extremely impressed by how creative you are. Amazing LEGO skills! And it shows! Just wanted to share some thoughts, which are solely mine of course :) For some reason, I feel the airfield might be too big. Hear me out. The most charming aspect of the LEGO builds you do, in my opinion, is the fact everything is like a sort of scaled down, tuned down abstract of reality. It's not trying to replicate reality one to one (such as the architectural LEGO sets), but more like an almost caricature of real life. So, the tram line, is a small tram and a small line, but has enough visual details to make it into a recognizable tramline. Same for the train station: it's too small for it to be realistic, but it has all the details it need to make it a convincing train station. You don't need a replica of Berlin Hauptbahnhof with a gazillion full length platforms to accommodate for realistic trains with 20 wagons and such. So, in other words, the fun of a lego city like this, in my opinion, is not to be hyper realistic, but to mimic real life with a representation that creates a caricature. Mixing the two "styles" would lead to a form of "uncanny valley" in my opinion, where it's not quite realistic, but realistic enough that we're put off by the "unrealistic" aspects of the creation. You want to stay away from that. We don't mind the sheer impractical scale of the train station, but you've noticed the heated debate regarding the airstrip's skid marks. So, I would much rather want to see a smaller, almost impossible for real life, airport, but with enough characteristic to make it an undeniable and fully recognizable airport, without trying to create a realistic scale model. This can be done on maybe a quarter of the size that you're building on right now. Maybe even less. This also leaves you with enough space to build other things instead of one massive airport. Of course, all of this is just my two cents. :) Keep up the amazing work!

I prefer the rubber method, it looks more realistic, and the brick-built version is a bit drastic in my opinion. Also, if your planes have rubber wheels, it's also more logical to use the rubber method, as the wheels themselves would leave the same mark. Keep up the amazing work, I'm really excited to see how your whole Lego universe will turn out!:)

6:40 i had an idea that instead of having the train go inside the building you could add a smaller table to the side and make the rail go under the airport (not under the table but just on a lower level), with stairs leading up this would leave more space for interior and create a nice underground stairs thing that would look pretty cool imo. a bus station and a road and a biiig parking would also help make the airport look massive

Amazing built! Just as a tip, I think you should add PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicator) on each side of the runway. This is used as a visual guide on your glideslope, especially when actually landing. They consist of 4 red/white lights. If showing 3+ white, you're too high, and if it shows 3+ red lights, you're too low. Showing 2 white (left) and 2 red (right) you're in the correct glideslope. This is mandatory on nearly all airports, and add a real sense of realism. Would be worth an entire episode on it's own, knowing how complex it is. ❤

@@captainnutnut6077Your right they are very similar just Papi lights are a simpler system because the only have four lights and airports have a lot of margin of error when landing. Where the metal ball is a lot more precise because of you are just a bit off your glide slope your in the drink, into the back of the carrier or you just miss the whole thing all together.

I really love the brick built tire markings, the LEGO tyre variant isn't that bad, but as you've shown it'll eventually disappear, thus I'm the fan of the brick built version. Can't wait to see the main airport building, would be so cool to see some sort of a train station inside or next to it, it's always nice to see train tracks around a LEGO city😄

For the runway, i would recommend to add the PAPI lights for more realistic feeling, which indicate pilots how high or low they are, search PAPI lights on the internet for a better perspective, this is very easy to make, put 4 see-through pieces white and red, you only need 4 lights on the side with the rwy 33, cause you said its the only one used for landings, add two white and two red lights on that side and you are done! you are awesome man continue the good work!

I prefer the brick built tire marking. I’m liking how the airport is shaping out. I think having a little train station that comes right up to the airport is a genius idea. That way you could get from one side of the city to the other without the need of having to take a car. But overall I’m liking how everything is coming along. I am a bit concerned how a big modern airport is going to tie into your cottage like city. But if you make it look similar to how you made the warehouse look. I think it will be fine.

I love the effort you put into these things. Most cities would not have such a detailed airport!

Love this project! A couple of feedbacks: Ideally, that last runway exit should connect to the runway at the very end of it, and it should be at a 90 degree angle to the runway. It should connect at the very end to allow planes to use all of the runway on takeoff. It's completely fine for aircraft to roll over the white stripes, just not any yellow arrows before the white stripes. Also, runway exits are either angled towards the furthest end of the runway, allowing for planes that have landed to exit the runway at a higher speed; or, they're angeled at 90 degrees. Your second to last exit is angeled correctly, but the last exit is usually angeled at 90 degrees because they're only designed to let aircraft onto the runway at low speeds. Angeling it towards the nearest end of the runway doesn't serve a purpose as it only increases the planes' turning radius.

in the small "legoland" in Osaka there is an airport built. There is a small tunnel under the table so that kids can crawl and pass there head inside of the building, to see the people waiting for the planes, duty frees etc... It might be a good idea to think of those kinds of interactions with the visitors.

Finally a lego airport that is almost perfectly in scale. LOVE IT!

Just a heads up! Those green spaces between the taxiways and on either side of the runway should be bowl-shaped, to collect storm water. The runway has to be high and dry to protect landing planes.

As a flight simmer since 12 years old and a student pilot currently studying Air Law at the moment, (Where airport markings are taught), This episode is a TREAT. One note: The runway threshold lights are green when looking down the runway and red on the other side. These lights are actually 2 directional meaning that one side of the lamp is painted green and the other red. Also one awesome detail you could add to the airport is a VOR antenna. Possibly and ideally close and around the runway! Awesome build!

I loved playing Lego with my dad when was younger, especially building an improvised airport, scheduling the flights and following the plan. I had a train station for passengers to get to it as well as a bus, a single runway, two terminals made from official sets and some interior on the baseplate which extended them but didn’t have any walls or a roof. I came up with some names for nonexistent airway companies and got fully immersed. Good old days. Now I’m really excited to see you build a highly detailed display model as I’m sure it will be a top notch and highly detailed build. Good luck and have fun with it! I suggest making up your own timetable and some names for airlines, looking forward to seeing what scenes will you come up with when placing mini figures!

It is so satisfying knowing that the runways are named correctly. Looks amazing, and can't wait to see this part of the city grow.

The rubber on the surface is cool, I think you should combine building it with darker pieces and rubbering it in with the tyre. You could also build a racetrack in the city with the same method, but that might be harder due to elevation changes.

I think the actual rubber looks a bit nicer, the brick built effect is really cool but seems really high-contrast for this context

A potential idea For the train track coming into the terminal; you could make it below the table more like a metro station, and then have a way for kids to crawl under the table with a viewing window to see it from up close as a way for them to interact with the city a little more.

I prefer the "natural" rubber tyre markings. Also one idea is to build some helipads for helicopters instead of the second grass runway. Keep up the awesome work!

I love the details of having the runway actually aligned and numbered correctly!

Ideas for the leftover space: - some people already mention helipads/private jet hangar - VIPs building, it only makes sense to have a VIP building next to helipads and private jets hangar Another great development! Can't wait for the whole project!

Go with the brick tire skids, it looks a bit more defined and professional. I think that using the tires will fade and come off. Use the brick built.

Maybe beside the airport you can make a small city with very tall buildings, like a small Manhattan from New York. And maybe you should build an hospital, a school and a city hall somewhere, and a small zoo, and a fire fighters station. Probably with that you build most things you can do.

If you’re making the runway this big. I can’t wait too see how big you make the airport it’s self.

You should make the airport train station subterranean! Also I think a clean look for the runway is best -- no tire marks necessary. Love the scale of it all -- epic build!

Yeah, if you add tire marks to the runway people might ask why you didn't put anything on the taxiways or the apron, or grease stains and skidmarks on the roads. It opens up a whole can of worms.

I agree, lots of people seem to love the brick built skid marks but I didn't think it worked at all. The rubber ones looked a lot more convincing to me but seem out of keeping with the Lego universe. I guess if a real Lego set included skid marks they'd either be in the form of stickers or a printed baseplate.

Glad to hear there is plan to expand the size of the terminal at a later date. IMHO a bigger terminal is needed to make this massive airport project shine! Also connecting the train to the terminal seems like a must have!

I really like that rubber-abrasion technique. While it objectively looks (slightly) worse, it also captures the imagination much more. Like it implies actual lego airplanes have been landing and taking off on the runway, and you just missed the last one, stick around and maybe you'll see the next one, etc.

This is going to be incredible! Definitely add a train platform going into the lower part of the terminal, maybe with a glass ceiling/wall so you can see the trains arriving the the platform!

I'm in favor of the rubber abrasion. The subtlety is better, and you still can clear it... This is a bit longer than my runways using baseplates, and much wider. I also used my smartphone's compass to align the runways geographically too, but I used hobby stickers! Very impressive!

This build is just immense. Far and away my favourite lego youtuber. Videos are so full of insight and very well presented. Would love to visit the display one day when it's open to the public.

Congrats on this amazing detailed build! Since this looks like a runway that would be handling pretty decent commercial traffic, I would suggest adding systems such as a PAPI or VASI, ground radar station and ALS

If you would have the terminal in the front, you could do the train station "underground" - similar to how you made the harbour. And the terminal presents much more opportunities for details, versus the landing strip, which can hold a plane (or 2?) and simple vegetation. You can't add trees or 10 airplanes to the landing strip. And terminal can be a small city in itself :) Anyway - awesome work!

Love the videos, for the airport the 2nd diagonal runway idea would definitely add to realism as they would need more than one direction to land in case of heavy crosswinds. Really excited that there's runway lights too. Definitely go train into airport and maybe the terminal is just an extension and not the whole airport. You could add an elevated monorail or people mover to the rest of the airport to the side to give you more room to build. Maybe the train would come into the main section.

I have gotten back into lego recently, last time I really took interest in it was when I was much younger, this really inspires me

for the blank area between the city and the airport I think an industrial district would look really great, theyre often near airports in real life cities, and would add a lot of realism to your city I think!

i think the brick built tire marks really tell you what it actually is supposed to be, weirdly enough it looks more realistic than the actual rubber left behind because the rubber just kind of makes it look dirty

one point of interest to suggest- fire fighters practice area - cut down (and blackened) plane fuselage that the fire fighters use to practice on. Quite a regular feature of airports if you know where to look! You could really do something with those lights - flames, flashing lights - too to make it come to life!

I love the way it looks by rubbing the tires on the runway. Thats so good!!!

The brick built tire marks look great. My only suggestion would be to double the length as that would make it look even more realistic.

I think the abrasion marks are a lot cooler (sorry, purists!)! You could fit the wheels to a dremel tool to abrade much faster, just make sure the bricks don't get too hot! If the wheels get hot, they'll only leave more rubber, making it look a lot more realistic :)

I'm happy you made the runway fairly long as a lot of Lego cities I've seen with airports have really short unrealistic runways.

Looking great, as usual! Some ideas for the airport and all the available space. Since an airfield alone would be a very large, flat space, perhaps it would be better to fill it some and condense the airfield itself. 1. Cargo terminal where trains/trucks come. 2. Separate passenger terminal with detailed interior like security, ticket counter and cafe. 3. Helipad 4. Skydiving or pilot school structure somewhere on the airfield. Also, I personally prefer the LEGO built rubber marks, but it seems they should be much longer down the runway.

I would say use the actual rubber tire markings if you don’t know how to build rubber tire marks out of bricks, but it seems like you have that down to the T and I really like the way your buildable tire skids are so I would just stick with that

Looks amazing, can’t wait to see more! Have you considered adding a helipad or one of those broken aeroplane fire fighter training areas in the larger vegetation area at the end of the runway? Could be an interesting way to add life and a few minifigure stories to that area

As someone who has spent lots of time in small planes, the airport is coming along fantastic! You could have a commercial plane hanger (for suggesting one type of plane vs smaller planes?) and one or two small plane hangers which could lead to lot's of variation with the airport? Great work!
