    Now that you’re likely going to be putting out videos more regularly, don’t feel pressured to add a new animal every episode, I’d be just as happy watching you manage all the existing animals and making sure their populations are ideal, getting the right amount of food and care etc and then maybe just some guest services or whatever is needed to improve guest and staff needs too 😊

    Just wanted to give more info on spotted hyena hierarchies. They often get lumped into matriarchies but they're a fair bit more complex than that. Hyenas inheret their ranks from their mothers. So if both male and female pups inherit the status of their mother why do females outrank males? The males tend to disperse and leave their pack in search for another more frequently. And once a hyena joins a new group they are set at the lowest point it the hierarchy!

  • @strangeduckling

    @strangeduckling

    4 ай бұрын

    Yeah, choosing animals with poor genetics for breeding isn't particularly ethical, especially if the offspring are going to be released into the wild. It would lead to wild populations being more susceptible to disease, decreased birth rates, and shorter lifespans; the goal for ethical breeding should be to strive towards healthier, more robust wild populations.

    I had to double check the spotted hyenas in game, because I swore the dominant female should have a "crown" instead of the alpha symbol since beta females are still allowed to breed. It seems like two females will live peaceful as long as you let them chill together (they don't need to be "officially" bonded) before adding the male, but they will start fighting for alpha if you add them all at once or when any other females mature/are added. Also, it's great for education opportunities that the meerkats and hyenas are right next to each other, because they are close relatives (and true, both on the "cat" side of Carnivora), so you might be able notice their face/ear shape are really similar, except hyenas are giant and crunch bones instead of scorpions I like Slash and Dash for a striped hyena pair, Dot and Hole Punch for the spotted

    Hey! Just wondering if you know there's one-way glass panels in build mode. I feel like adding those would be more ethical, as it allows the guests to see the animals, but not the other way around. Especially would be good for the shyer animals! Maybe you've already done this and I just missed it ^^""

  • @PawsBuild

    @PawsBuild

    An interesting hyena fact is that they have a very unusual walk pattern. They walk with both right legs moving forward and both left moving back at once and vice versa. Most 4 legged animals move with both front legs going in different directions and both back legs doing the opposite of the front.

  • @Wodfamchocsod4

    I think that at this point, if you want to keep marking this as an ethical zoo, i think its smart of relocate either the Maned Wolf, Anteater, Bairds Tapir or Capybara and make 2 habitats with 2 animals for them. Looking at the Zoopedia, this will be the Bairds Tapir and Capybara and Maned Wolf and Anteater... cuz the Maned Wolf cannot live together with the Bairds Tapir, which means having the Bairds Tapir in a habitat with the Maned Wolf as is, cannot be seen as ethical either. At the same time, the Anteater and Capybara can both live with the Maned Wolf, so you can also just relocate the Maned Wolf and introduce the Collared Peccary to the zoo, which can live together with the Maned Wolf.

    in my game, I also like to sort by appeal for animals with way too many offspring. This usually goes along the line of kicking out the older ones, but not always.

    Love this series but I personally feel like these two habitats could be much bigger! You originally wanted much mroe thsn double the necessary size :) hyenas need lots of room to roam

    I think what you could do to improve this project and enhance the idea of continuing habitat without the animals killing themselves is to put the barriers underground or use water and stones to block their passage. It also would be nice to have a memorial plaza with kiosks, amenities, education, fountains, decorations, and plaques with all the animals.

    A sidenote on the fact about how strong the front legs of the hyena is: There's a story about a photographer that came across a hyena, that had been mauled by lions, and had parts of it spine crushed (or the nerve endings in the spine), so that it couldn't use it's hind legs. Still, it survived for years, somehow took part in hunts, and was the alpha of his group... o.O
