Nice job Peter....I have the same unit, and it still plays fine. It cost me $600 new in 1997. It also has made the same platter noise as yours for as long as I can remember, along with loud squeaking as the tray is drawn in or extended out.

Yeah, I opened it a second time thinking I must be missing something and determined they just make a shit-ton of noise. haha

I have this same disc changer too. I think I also bought in 1997. Still works fine. I don’t think I quite have the loud noise when it changes discs. It sounds normal for me.

I got a GFA565 amp. The speakers work, but I have a loud hum. Loud pop when I turn it on, then some squelching, then it fades off to a silent hum. The silent hum is pretty loud, but you can still hear audio. Any idea what I should swap out. The boards look clean. The caps look ok, but my first guess is to go for the caps. The repair manual is here. But no troubleshooting guide, and I am not a pro at this. Thanks www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/adcom/gfa-565.shtml

Peter- Who do your buy your caps from and do you have a list for the GCD 700? No mstter shat button on the remote or front of the unit, it just causes the draw to open and retract. This doenst happen if i have the cover off. Very strange. Ken

If you just need quick "does this work" caps, go on eBay. But for proper recapping projects like this one I only order from Digikey. Shat? haha

Peter, did you listen to the CD player before you replaced the CAPs? I have a GCD 700 also, mine works fine but I wonder if it would improve the sound if I replaced the CAPs? Also, about how much did it cost you to purchase all the caps?

+Robert Bone Only a bit. I didn't notice a huge difference - mostly a reduction of some background hiss. I mainly replaced them as a matter of course since the caps are pretty old at this point.

I haven't used that model before, but you can always open it up and inspect it for damage if you are comfortable with that sort of thing. Often what happens is a CD gets jammed and the drive won't open.
