Adam Silver Comments on ESPN Fallout Regarding Rachel Nichols

In a press conference before the 2021 NBA Finals began, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver chimed in on the ESPN controversy surrounding Rachel Nichols and Maria Taylor.
He said that it’s a “disheartening” situation and added “It’s unfortunate that women are pitted against each other.”
Nichols was taken off the NBA Finals coverage due to leaked comments she made regarding Taylor and was replaced by Malika Andrews. She apologized for her comments on her show “The Jump.” “Start Your Day” hosts Sharon Reed and Mike Hill share their thoughts about Silver’s comments and call out ESPN over treatment of its Black employees.

Rachel brought up Grace has she not brought a brace this would be a completely totally different conversation. The fact that she’s complaining about diversity when she herself benefits from it is what’s disturbing. She’s white, shes a woman and shes Diane Swayers daughter n law. Lets stop pretending she doesn’t benefit

I'm a Black man and I am telling you Rachel Nichols has earned the right to cover the NBA Finals. In 2016 Rachel Nichols created the NBA Discussion show "The Jump" to Allow NBA Players to have open discussions of the NBA and their lives. Worked on NBA on TNT from 2013 to 2016. In 2019 she was named host of NBA Saturday Primetime on ABC and the NBA Finals. Maria Taylor covered mostly college Football Games, Volleyball Games, Basketball Games and very few NBA Games. She is extremely talented, but you don't go from hosting an NBA Pre Game Show to Covering the NBA Finals over Rachel Nichols. The Facts Matter, Please read Wikipedia on both. If You condone Reverse Discrimination, That Means You Condone Discrimination. I don't condone any discrimination!

This reminds me of when a man cheats on his wife and then he use some voodoo magic and make his wife believe it was the mistress fault. So the wife and mistress ends up hating each other and going at each others throat while the man manipulates everything and get away with mayhem. SMH ESPN IS THE PROBLEM! But I've seen SMART women and wives get together and turn the screws on the man. That's what Rachel should have done. She have a contract (how and why she got it is something else) but none the less a contract is a binding legal document. I understand her feeling some type of way if you're going to take a check from me to give to someone else because of your incompetence in running a company. BUT...if Rachel was SMART she would have fell back and said "ok, I understand. No problem, but you are still going to pay me for that assignment because it's in my contract and if not I will sue for it." Then she should have called Maria Taylor and congratulated her and share sideline reporting duties with Maria and every time Maria takes over Rachel still get paid for it. That is making ESPN pay for their stupidity!

I know a former female sports reporter who ESPN hired, because when they started hiring women, they started with professional reporters. However, she said it was not a great place for women at that time. It could be argued that many of the more recent hires, excluding Jemele Hill, were predominantly hired for their aesthetic appeal. Nichols was wrong, period. But she knows how ESPN treats older female journalists and knew that she was running out of time and got into her feelings about Taylor's new role. The timing of the leak was duplicitous because Taylor turned down a nearly 400% increase salary offer because she believes that she deserves Stephen A. Smith money (she doesn't). The embarrassment of ESPN is supposed to make them cave? I don't think so. Good luck finding another company to offer you nearly $5 million per year. So entitled.

White people are a minority in the USA America is a country founded on immigration.* Today, its population is more diverse and multicultural than ever. Following the 1965 immigration reform (which grew from the civil rights movement), the number of non-white people increased dramatically. This was particularly true of Latinos, who went from 6.3m in 1960* to over 50m by 2010.* By the early 2010s, non-whites had already begun to outnumber whites in California, Hawaii, New Mexico, Texas and Washington DC, while nearly half of all children in the nation were non-white.* This trend continued over subsequent decades. By 2042, white people themselves are a minority.** This rapid change in the demographic makeup has significantly altered the political disposition of the country. Latinos,* blacks* and other minorities tend to be left-leaning.* Other factors have influenced voters' preferences - such as the growing urbanisation of the country, with cities tending to favour more liberal and progressive policies than smaller, traditional rural communities. Generation X and Generation Y (the latter now entering their middle age) have also reshaped the political stage, most of them favouring the Democrats.* This and other factors have converged to make the old-style Republican Party unelectable. By now, the GOP has been forced to drastically moderate its policies and rhetoric compared to earlier decades.*

I am by no means a Rachel Nichols' fan....I have never liked her personality on air. But when you really think about it, Rachel didn't say anything disparaging about Maria Taylor; she actually disparaged ESPN. She accused ESPN of having a crappy diversity history, and she said she had respect for Maria, and wished Maria all the best, but she did not want ESPN taking her jobs to give to Maria to make ESPN look better. So everyone who is jumping on the "Rachel said something racist about Maria" bandwagon needs to go back and listen to the recording again. Let me be clear once again: I am by no means one of Rachel Nichols' fans. She is annoying to me on so many levels. I have never liked her on air. I never watched ¨The Jump¨ unless she was on vacation and some dude was taking her place. But in this case, I think most people who are jumping down Rachel Nichols´ throat are wrong.

Isn’t that racist? If white people had a show W.E.T that would be racist, but blacks are celebrated, my son played AAU basketball, only white player on the team and they all got along, but when he played other teams, he was made fun being white and called all kinds of names, so if every black person can say they never said a racist remark, than you can say Rachel said something racist, I’m sure every black person says some racist remarks all the time, but white people dont focus on it every single seconds of the day
