This film is my absolute favorite of his. It's sad it's so underrepresented in terms of merchandise and that more people don't recognize it as one of his top films. I love the art and the premise of the movie. Such interesting vegetation and creative creatures.

@@IsardPragmatique93 Sorry, pal, I usually am against arguing online, but I have to draw the line somewhere. Saying that Nausicaa is not a well-known movie just plain doesn't work. Dude, Nausicca is THE most well known Miyazaki movie. Is the one that led to the foundation of Studio Ghibli (it is considered a Ghibli film because Ghibli owns the rights). It's the one ranked as one of the greatest films ever made. If you ask anyone "tell me three Ghibli films", it will 99% of times be "Nausicaa and two others" (with the other two often including Totoro, but I know many people who believe Totoro is just a mascot and not knowing he has its own movie). Just agree that even if you didn't know about it it just means YOU are not very versed in Ghiobli films (which is NOT a dishonor; NOBODY is "required" to be very versed in ANYTHING) and enjoy the one-day build, pal. :-)

The seam in the sky backdrop could be made less noticeable with some touch-up paint. I had the same problem with sections of a large wallpaper mural in my living room. "Invisible" nylon sewing thread (.004" clear or grey) would show up much less to suspend the model than the black thread or wire Adam used.

adam if you make a smaller window with slanted wood on inside that makes an angle towards the background then wherever you stand you will only have sight of the backdrop and figure rather than the inside of a box :)

As soon as I saw Nausicaa flying her glider in the thumbnail, I knew I had to watch the video. Favorite Ghibli character, hands down!

I’m so disappointed you guys spoiled this in the title and the thumbnail. It was clearly important to Adam as he was filming that this be something different, a surprise, and having that undercut the whole time was... yeah, it was disappointing.

@@logan_page Spirited Away just seems to dip into a strange mix of fantasy and slice of life for the bathhouse (in a fantasy world). Which does give the impression of a fever dream sort of thing at times. As the characters look at something very weird for us the audience and go “yeah that’s completely normal”

Saw that coming. A gear motor rigidly attached to a big panel is basically a speaker. He could have put the drive motor in a rubber box and connected it to the roller with a thin cogged belt.

Oh, this is incredible!! I love Nausicaä so much & I was super fortunate to see it on the big screen last year. It was an unforgettable experience.

I'm so glad to see Adam doing these minimally edited videos where we get to see the process of making something in real-time. I get that he has to have some videos that need to jump-cut to the reveal so that the less creative people among us can feel included. But I'd wager that the larger part of this audience wants to watch the whole process- warts and all. *edit* Also; holy shit, check out that crazy server rack in the background of most of this video Adam, are you starting your own server farm?

I LOVE watching Adam stomping around, talking to himself and the inanimate objects in funny accents - like an absolute maniac! Though I wasn't totally clear what he was planning to do with the waap waap.

Wow! That's totally awesome! I love it.

Warms my heart, the first Ghibli I watched. You have awakened a deep nostalgia.

Nausicaa of the valley of the wind is great, definitely recommend the movie (watched it in Japanese) iirc it's on netflix for those who want to watch it. Edit: That movie was a big influence on the Final Fantasy franchise too btw

I've used KissAnime for quite a while. It was finally shutdown in Dec 2020, but it looks like they relaunched at KissAnime.city lol. I tried watching Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind, it works perfectly, just had to switch to a "backup" stream server after getting an error.

I remember one night, a long long time ago, when my father brought a video tape (VHS?) of Nausicaa from work. At the time, Mr. Miyazaki and his creations were still completely unknown to the world, let alone even in Japan. My father had met Mr. Miyazaki who I recall was looking for advertiser(s) to fund the release/production of his work. A lot of time has passed since then, with more movies released and Mr. Miyazaki is now well recognized in the world, yet the story of Nausicca still remains to be my favorite of all his creations. Watching this KZread video made me reminisce how I felt the very first time I ever saw Nausicca as a young human being still living in Japan.

I hope the title and thumbnail didn't spoil it, but I see why it is. Great idea anyway. Love watching it!

After watching this I'm imagining Kiki flying on her broom through a parisian themed town.

when you told me what it was for, i got goose bumps and smiled, this film was my favorite as a child and still is now.

I did like it when you would talk while you were creating, because it reminded me of my dad describing how to do do something and then getting sidetracked telling stories about his life. As a creator I can also understand the need to focus on a project and not get sidetracked. Also, my stepdad got me into watching mythbusters and I have fond memories of watching it together. Thank you for sharing your process.

Nausicaa is the best Ghibli film, if not the best animated film, if not one of the best films ever made. So relevant to where this world is headed. Hopefully the insects and fungi smarten up soon and start weeding us out.

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and Princess Mononoke are my favorite films from ghibli studio's, and this is also a nice build to watch I love it

I love that it is made so that the moving background can be changed. I can see it with a starfield, race track stands, or dragons in the sky as a backdrop.

Love these video's Adam, just remember when you manhandle those cameras... that's us you're tossing around the room!

Long taps are often called pulley taps for people looking for them! Also add two little motor with a cam to make the strings oscillate and bring movement to the character, so it’s even more realistic.

Dear Whoever has been editing the audio during the fast-forward segments, I see what you are doing. Great job!

It would be cool to have the model dip up and down with moving background would add to the illusion. Could be done with a belt hooked up to a gear and a cam.

i remember watching Nausica when i was really young. It freaked me out and intrigued me all at the same time. Later when i was older i found the complete manga and got freaked out and intrigued all over again lol.

well, when the finished display was revealed and I saw her flying through the sky, my eyes filled with tears as the feelings from reading the 7 volume manga I read at least 12 years ago come flooding back.

Adam! Dude this was awesome! Working on this film was one of the highlights of my life! Great to see you make it come to life!!

A couple humble suggestions to upgrade this awesome build. 1. Get magician's invisible thread. 2. Get a much quieter motor. These two things will add greatly to the viewing experience.

I see Adam has learnt a thing or two from all those museums display tours he’s done. Because that genuinely looks like the beginnings of a display piece for some sort of animation museum.

I love seeing Adam use the different tools that are part of his bench. Those hold downs are really cool.

I love the audio mixing in these videos, using ambient noise at standard speed over time lapses instead of royalty free music is just wonderful and helps lend a sense of determined progress

Knew it would be a Möwe flyer as soon as I saw the sky background. So it wasn't a surprise. But I was still in tears seeing it all done. That's a very special celebration of a very special movie. Mr. Miyazaki would be humbled and honored at such a display.

Awesome! I just watched that film for the first time a few months ago. Probably become my favorite Ghibli film. It was very atmospheric and delved into serious themes. Tears were shed by the end.

"21 and 15/16ths" feels like a spiritual successor to 25 or 6 to 4.

Anything Hayao Miyazaki from studio Ghibli is IMO top notch/absolute masterpiece! I LOVE all the movies but Spirited away and Howl's moving castle are my favorite! Wish I could shake Hayao Miyazaki hand, his videos made me so happy during some major lows in my life.
