I'd love to learn how you solved the reflection issue the yellow causes when wearing those Dewalt goggles. I'm personally prone to Ocular Migraines and my glasses alone can cause an issue. The Dewalt goggles cause a double ghosting effect due to not eliminating enough light penetration through the silicone surrounding the large plastic lens. For me I end up seeing my own eyes looking back at me while wearing those. Personally I've looked into dying, or painting the silicone to improve the light blocking, but I've yet to find a good solution.

Heck yeah! I looked at my Amazon history and saw that I bought a pair of these about 3 years ago. I routinely wear them over my rx glasses (or even sunglasses, depending on where I'm working.) Had a chunk of plywood come off a table saw about a year ago and hit me square in the bridge of my nose. Probably would have cut me real well had I not had these on, and a few mm to either side could have been a bad day. The googles just have a little scuff there.

Here’s mine : About 5 years ago and just before I went to work in the morning I decided in my wisdom that it would be a good idea to use the dremel to shorten a tiny bolt that was just a tad too long. Annoyingly I couldn’t find my safety goggles, and thinking it would just be a 5 second job I carried on. Didn’t feel anything dramatic initially, but an hour after the job was done I felt that there was probably some dust on my eye - tried washing that off but no joy. It started hurting like crap the next day, so off to the hospital I went.. The eye specialist took a look through the scope and said “it seems there is a metal shard lodged in your eyeball.. and it was probably quite hot when it impacted cos it’s caused a burn... and it’s started to rust...” 😱😱😱😱 Long story short, he managed to get the shard out of the eye (thankfully it was 3mm off and on a part of the eyeball where I wouldn’t notice the scarring), And I’m perfectly fine today. So goggles, everyone!

He still managed to get the one wayward chip to land in his eye. Came right in from the top. I purchased these goggles along with a nice case for them on Amazon, and I already love them! Thanks, Adam, for a great suggestion. I have several other tools you've recommended in m cart to buy as money permits. I wanted to share my story of eye damage. I have managed to escape eye damage from most dangerous maker projects, shooting guns, and lots of yardwork. But a long time ago I did landscaping for a living and was hurriedly flinging pine bark mulch out of the back of a truck into a new flower bed to get done and go home for the day. I managed to get a tiny piece of bark lodged in my eye. What a painful injury! I also had to go to the eye doctor to get it removed, and she said it scratched my eyeball. It was sore and burning for several days after that. I was super careful from then on. I plan to use these goggles both for maker projects and yardwork such as weed whacking. Thanks again for the great suggestion.

I wear those SWAT type big goggles for working in the shop. They are not too heavy, but are rugged. They are super rubbery so they form to your head pretty well. I have a few pair so never have an excuse for not using them.

For keeping my Optivisor or Safety glasses dust and scratch free I use the cloth pouches that new sheet sets come in. Most times they have a Velcro closure, they are washable, they are durable, and they look luxe in the shop!

My favorite safety glasses story comes from my last job. we were all given a couple pairs of the same glasses. I decided to start decorating the temples on mine because I often misplaced them. The flip side of decorating them is production would often call me out if I forgot them while on call. Everyone had gotten so interested in the designs that they started to pay more attention to safety equipment.

As a glasses wearer who has a pair of these, I can attest to how nice they are. Adam’s 100% right about them. They’re comfortable and cheap, and fit over my glasses really well. My only real complaint is that they do sometimes like to take my glasses with them when I take them off, but that’s a minor inconvenience.

I have those same goggles and wear them whenever I am cutting or filing or sanding to prevent dust and fragments from going around regular safety glasses. I find my eyes feel better the next day by comparison. I also forget I put them on and start looking around for them when I am about to cut something else only to find I am already wearing them. They are cheap and comfortable and fit over prescription eye glasses.

Safety goggles are a must! I had to visit the eye doctor before after getting a metal fleck in my eye. The eye doctor had to polish the rust off of my eyeball and it was not pleasant. They use numbing eye drops that work great, I couldn’t feel anything, but I could still SEE everything! At least, until I passed out.

OK got 'em ... I could only snag 2 as that's all the seller had... I notice every time you make a tool tip the stuff runs out fast! Eyes are important, so are ears, hands, everything! Safety in the shop is no joke and I even keep a stocked fully OSHA compliant First Aid kit even though I am one guy in a *home* maker space. The best project I did was make a PPE and First Aid station that has all that stuff and it's near by the front door of my shop so it's the first thing I grab when I go in to do any work... Hope everyone stays and works safe in their shops . . . Remember the motto: "Be Prepared!" Adam, Thanks so much for posting this reminder

It's crazy, I just got my new DeWalt Safety glasses in the mail yesterday. I don't need glass covers, but I got them becasue they are "fog resistant". I visit automotive factories frequently and having a nice set of safety glasses is a real plus. Some of the cheap ones they supply are really sucky and now that we have to wear surgical masks the fogging is a real pain. The importance of protecting your eyes can not be over stated.

Those Dewalt goggles really are the best. I use them with a 3M half mask respirator and they are super comfortable as goggle and masks go. I wish I had started wearing them earlier in life for painting and cutting, but better late than never.

Yep. I like those. I find when using an angle grinder, the cooling fan in the tool sometimes blows air right at my face and regular safety glasses will not stop the air from swirling around the edge and carrying stuff into my eyes. I even use those when mowing (riding mower) for the same basic reason; light dust, grass and wood particles get kicked up into the air and the air swirls around regular safety glasses. Goggles work much better.

Working in an entertainment shop in Las Vegas for 12+ years , I use the same dewalt safety goggles. The only downfall is they have little air vent slits on the top and bottom to prevent them from fogging up. Many times I had debris come in my goggles so...I ended up sealing them with tape and now nothing gets in. Great goggles over all! Would recommend

The two most important lessons I've learned today (1) - When searching for Adam Savage's videos, spelling is important. "Adam Savage Testes" doesn't necessarily return the same search results as "Adam Savage Tested" and (2)- Good safety goggles are worth their weight in gold. Adam, while you're at it, check out "RZ Masks". Good stuff.

As someone who spends a lot of time on the water, the advice in this video is also absolutely applicable to PFDs (life jackets). They can only save your life if you wear them, and so many people don't wear the ones they have because the ones they have are uncomfortable. It is so important to find one that is comfortable because once you have a PFD that is comfortable, you are a million times more likely to actually wear it.

thanks for the review. I wanted googles to fit over my glasses for riding a motorcycle (local joy riding at low speed). I didn't have anything and then the last ride a small pebble got kicked up and went in my eye. I researched so many google options but I read a lot of negative reviews (too small, obstruct vision, fog up). these look nice and comfortable and also the best part is the price (it's worth for me to order / test out).

For years I'd mark stuff out, then take my prescription glasses off and put safety glasses on to make a cut. But I wanted to improve accuracy, which meant being safe, AND being able to see! Settled on a nice pair of Bole goggles which I really like, one of the best shop purchases I've made.

"Side shields" are available that attach to the ear pieces and fill the open space. They turn your ordinary glasses into simple goggles and you never need to remember to put them on. A friend of mine worked in a cabinet shop and swore by them. They are made in several sizes to fit different shapes of eyeglass frames. You should look into them.

This channel is such a treat. I think I'd still be star struck, but don't you just feel like you know Adam? I think it'd take very little time to just fall into a normal friendly conversation with him after the celebrity wore off. I think the desire to learn from him would quickly overtake anything else. Really sad about Grant, as I'd always assumed I'd be able to talk to him about re-designing wheelchairs, but I still hope I get to pick Adam's brain someday.

I have spent a few years now working with metal, twice I have got metal fragments in my eye from die grinding steel (I do anything to avoid it but sometime it has to be done) Both times it happen i was wearing goggles, the fragments were in my hair and fell down, even after a shop shower with a airline, eyes closed. I am not saying goggles don't work, I just feel its a lesson to learn that even when the cutting is done the fragments are still there.

That experience you made, I made when I was 5 years old. We had a workshop in kindergarten and we just build stupid/funny constructions with wood and nails. A tiny bit chipped of from the nail and hit me in the eye. It was a nightmare. They had to remove it with a very fine drill and something like a high tech dremel. You can imagine how a 5 year old feels when he sees a drill coming towards his eye and is told to hold still...

I use the dewalt safety glasses (not goggles) all the time, both for the safety aspect and because I get the bifocal ones. I work in a lab deprocessng integrated circuits. So everything is small, the magnification the bifocal gives me helps out a lot. I have the glasses straps on them. There are two pair on my desk at work, one pair on my desk at home and another tinted pair at home for working outside.

Fully agree. I got mugged many years ago and ended up being rushed to A&E to have the glass fragments removed from my left eye. I spent two weeks in the eye hospital as they worked to ensure my brain did not switch off the bad eye. Apparently, if that happens it's irreversible. Luckily the damaged eye was recovered to almost it's original state. So, I wear a 3M full face shield when machining, routing, etc.
