Adam Savage Examines the Blade Runner 2049 Blasters!

Ғылым және технология

Adam Savage visited the set of Blade Runner 2049 during its production last year, and one of the first things he had to do was visit the props department. There, prop master Doug Harlocker shows Adam the many blaster props made for the film, including replicas of Deckard's iconic pistol!

    Awesome props, and awesome design for the next gen blaster. Saw the movie myself on Thursday (10/5) and I was seriously impressed with the production design - very faithful to the original without looking dated or clunky at all, especially the new car and the new blaster. And yes, I fully expect Adam to build a next gen blaster himself, probably after a visit by Doug to Adam's shop. And it will be awesome. Because Adam will undoubtedly incorporate a fully working trigger, sliding hammer, and working LED, just like the hero props from the film. Because that's who Adam Savage is, and that what Adam Savage cares about.

    Doug should have given credit to Tomenosuke & Adam knows better. They may have made one Hero from scratch but most of those blasters are a kit from Tomenosuke; not fabricated by hand from scratch like he is claiming. That is why Adam is not raving over the classic blasters and is fascinated by the rubber one and the new versions. It's because he knows what they are and has several.

    for sure worth more then mine. I've used this user name in lots of things for many many years and picked it to be somewhat intimidating in video games. Not afraid to admit I have guns because I'm a law abiding citizen and have done nothing wrong. And if I were to change my user name after the recent events then they win. And we don't have a gun problem but a mental health problem disguised as a gun problem.

    Thatguy WhoDoesThings I don't understand people with your mindset. You think just because that's how you feel about things that's how they should be. Well, they're not. A lot of people find value and security by owning guns. Do you realize how many guns are out there in existence? Millions just in the USA. Do those millions of guns all murder innocent people? What's the percentage, like .001% of the total amount of guns are used in mass shootings? Where is the logic in banning all guns when that small of a percentage is used for what we are trying to prevent? What about alcohol? Alcohol kills far more people per year than guns. What about heart disease? Shall we ban cakes and pies? What about diabetes? Ban sugar, way more people die from diabetes than guns. That's not just "mass shootings", that's all gun deaths combined. Here's a list of Americas top 10 reasons for death. Where are guns on that list? Where are the laws for diabetes control? Stroke control? Lets make suicide illegal, that'll stop 'em. Oh wait, it already is... Heart disease. Cancer (malignant neoplasms) Chronic lower respiratory disease. Accidents (unintentional injuries) Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases) Alzheimer's disease. Diabetes. Influenza and pneumonia. Kidney disease. Suicide.

    No need to apologize, We all want that. No one WANTS mass murder or even gun violence at all. My point was just because they exist doesn't mean more ridiculous laws are going to stop them. We already have tons of gun laws, look at Chicago for instance. Gun violence is way up and they have some of the toughest gun laws of any state/city. Granted not as tough as say California as a whole or San Francisco but still. How has it helped? What is the answer? Who knows? I do know that the right to protect yourself is an inalienable right and our constitution states we have the right to bear arms so that is something that is ingrained in American culture. The truth is, mass shootings or any type of shootings suck and no sane person WANTS them to occur. But, could you imagine the carnage that would happen if we took the guns out of law abiding citizens hands? Trust me, when the criminals have no reason to fear a fair fight, they will take full advantage of that fact.

    They're not real. They simply can't fire. It's like when you look down the barrel in a real gun to see if there's dirt or something in it. Make sure it's unloaded and it's alright.

  • @JC-ln6on

    @JC-ln6on

    ZeD Does cause cringes at first, regardless. If anyone’s had JUST real world and real fire experience with firearms, the wanton waving around and staring down barrels is a bit off putting. But then you realize that these guys are pretty much always dealing with non-fire props in this setting(and know it), and it makes one realize that that’s a different world from ranges and real fire events. Never hurts to have those instincts, though. Always treating a firearm as if it’s loaded(and functional) is, generally, a good way to be.

    That's a typical Hollywood bullshit. Adam knows that blaster is made by Tomenosuke. He owns one.

    I would be just as excited Adam. Unfortunately, i can not afford to buy a replica due to becoming disabled an no longer being able to work. Therefore I vicariously share your excitement when I watch you handling Blade Runner blaster's, as I have loved that prop too, for 41 years. So thank you 🙏

    My eye kept drifting to the scotch bottles in the background. My favourite props from the original Blade Runner were the bone shaped Black Label bottle and Deckard's drinking tumblers (so much so that I imported a set of them for myself).

    Although very cool, I feel it pales in comparison to the original blaster. To me it looks too refined whereas the original gives off a "wild west" vibe that adds to the lawman mystique of the Blade Runner.

    I kinda feel thats what they were going for, their blaster design from 2019 has some vibe and feel to it where as 2049's design is more monochrome and dead like. Like futuristic indoctrination

    I specifically noticed and recognised the new design of the Next Gen blaster, brutalist and functional in its look, being very much emulative of that hardened, somehow even more burnt-out world of the Blade Runner setting many years on from the original storyline timeframe.
