    Ill tell you, he doesn't get to inform about the facts like he would otherwise. Capasitors doesn't store "an insane amount of energy", they store far far less than a led acid battery. Aslo supercapasitors bleed way to mouch power.

    *Chris The capacitor is not storing electrical current, the capacitor stores charge (which is current x time). Sounds like minor difference, but mixing this up results in a lot of problem when calculating capacitors and inductors as energy storage devices - details simply matter.

I don't think KZread cares if no money actually changes hands, otherwise, you are right. He is supposed to tell us. Not sure why everyone is so up-tight about it.

You are the person who got me to realize that science is not just for people in big lab coats. In first grade I remember that we were told to pick some heroes of ours to be a classroom "figure." we were to nominate 2 of them and make big posters for them, then vote on who would be the classroom "figure." my nomination was Adam Savage. Spongebob squarepants won the nomination though. *sigh*. once again, thank you Adam, you have forever changed my life.

    I see a lot of people on here complaining about the fact that this is sponsored content, or calling it an advertisement. I for one can appreciate when two groups of people come together and create engaging and innovative content, and that is exactly what happens in this video. If you're upset because it is an advertisement, I'd like to ask what you think they're advertising. Do you think that someone is going to watch this and then go buy a GE dishwasher? absolutely not. GE wants more young people going into stem fields, and they want them to think that it would be cool to work for GE. The "Unimpossible Mission" Series has been engaging and educational so far, and I think it is a good move for both Tested and GE.

    The nomenclature in this video is a little iffy. Capacitor plates store charge, not current. Joules is a unit of energy, not power. The 1.5V battery doesn't have a certain "amount" of current in it, it has a certain amount of energy in it and it can deliver a certain amount of power.

    you forgot to mention that the xenon flash tube also needs more then 1.5V to create light. Disposable cameras use about 330V (the last i checked). Larger flash and strobe units use higher voltages. (also, in order to fire the flash, a high voltage trigger pulse needs to fire, bridging the electrodes in the tube, thus causing an arc) Also a word of warning to any hobbyists, flash units can store enough energy to be lethal, and studio strobes store enough energy in their capacitor banks to be lethal full stop, so dont go taking one apart if you dont know what your doing, as that might very well be the last thing you ever do.

    If you charge and discharge the cap in a day long term storage isn't an issue. The promise of super caps is that they can charge much faster than other battery technologies.

  • @AzumMonkey

    @AzumMonkey

    7 жыл бұрын

    That is true, super capacitors could probably keep charge for several days without any problem. Although the increased power density comes at the cost of lower energy density. So yes you could charge much much faster, but you would also have to charge a lot more often, since the same weight/volume of capacitors holds less energy than equivalent batteries. Another cool thing if you ask me is the fact that since the capacitors have much longer cycle life than batteries as well. In other words they don't loose capacity by charging and discharging nearly as fast as batteries.

    Yes, I believe that some sort of combination will be used pretty soon. At least as an intermediate step to try and get the benefits of both components. However the fact that super caps still carry relatively little energy is hard to get past unless major breakthroughs in this technology can be made soon.

    Okay, but what diaelectric material did they use? Conventionally the higher the capacitance the lower the voltage breakdown of the inhalation material. If they are using typical "super capacitors" they may have filled them but only to maybe 12V if they were in series and then wasting all the excess energy as heat. Unless there was some revolutionary breakthrough in capacitor technology I'm guessing they actually didn't collect the majority of the energy from that lightning bolt. It takes surprisingly little power to start a car.

    Capacitors store voltage, not current. Inductors are the ones that store current. The voltage stored in capacitors can be used to generate current if connected to a circuit as a power source, but strictly speaking the energy is stored as an electric potential differential i.e. voltage.

  • @AzumMonkey

    @AzumMonkey

    To be strict an inductor does not "store current". An inductor stores energy in a magnetic field while a capacitor stores energy in an electric field. Although storing energy in an magnetic field (as for an inductor) requires a current to flow through the inductor.

    The engine I designed generates lightening for my hover car ... Each of my engines are stamped with a gold lightening bolt . No names ... just a bolt of lightening. I feel each engine has a bolt of lightening inside... Aluminum case of course .

    The Focal depth and make an edit cut every 3 seconds gives it away as an advert. Had the AD and DP been clever they could have got away with it, but probably didn't realise how they work is a like a fingerprint.

    Wait, did Adam Savage Catch the Lightning in the Bottle so fast that I missed it in the blink of an eye? My god, that's impressive. Either that or I just got clickbaited. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I got clickbaited.
