The discrimination is true.. I was looking up air bnb rentals here in Hawaii so my family could have a house to themselves and a review was left about the owner dropping by unexpectedly at all hours of the night; he responded by mocking them for their English skills, saying he only chose them because they were fellow veterans, and accused them of being criminals for wanting privacy.

Let’s also talk about how AirBnB and site like it also cheat the government out out of occupancy taxes that hotels have to pay. Occupancy taxes fund CVB’s in cities, which are used to help grow and develops the tourism in cities by advertising and bidding on conventions and such.

While AirBnb is great I could imagine it becoming banned in many cities/living communities in the future. Cause we're seeing apartments meant for locals being bought by people using them as a hotel business to avoid the costs involved with running a regular hotel. With the housing shortage in most inner cities, it wouldn't make sense to let businesses take over living spaces. Allthough I think it's mainly a noticeable issue in some particular cities. Barcelona for instance has started having issues with this.

  • @BenRangel

    7 жыл бұрын

+Patrick Dukemajian don't think zoning laws is the problem in most cities, I've only heard that being an issue in the US. airbnb is of course not to blame for the root cause of the problem. But in some cases, like Barcelona, you've got central area of town which is basically "full" and locals don't like to see their apartments bought and turned into airbnb hotel rooms

One of the most memorable cases I worked on was a man who had guests that left like a pound of coke, used condoms in every single room, burned a couch, smashed a mirror, clogged a hot tub, etc. My supervisor told me to try my best to get out of covering it. Airbnb is pretty awful.

This is fake and you are lying. How do I know? NO ONE would leave "a pound of coke" at an airbnb. That's just ridiculous. In the US, a pound of coke is worth about 150k. And I highly doubt someone is going to leave $150k laying around at an airbnb, Even in the unlikely event that someone actually HAD "a pound of coke." If i were to give your comment any credibility, maaaaaybe they dropped a gram or a ball by mistake in the couch cushions but "a pound of coke" left behind? Naaaaaahhhhh. Airbnb won't release their data because it would be simple to plug the number of rental units on the platform into a calculator and see how it directly affects the increase in rents. Reduce supply price goes up. Day 1 economics class.

Well I mean, nobody says anything like “4 and a half minutes ago”. People round to the nearest whole when counting minutes. So all the host did was rounding it to the nearest minute, which is something everybody does when they talk time, well, maybe except if it’s less than a minute.
