You have great humor, and are approachable and make climbing content accessible to newer climbers thanks to your humility and relevant perspective that is often missed by elite climbers. Really cool to see someone pick Adams brain on some random topics, cool to hear about his involvement/opinion in the course with magnus, opinion on best indoor boulderer, and grade ranges.
Adam is such an amazing guy! I watched him collaborate with many other climbers, and he's always entertaining and naturally funny!
Glad to see Adam Ondra hates grade ranges. I'm just a Gumby who has been bouldering 6 times and probably can't even complete a V2, but I don't even know how terrible I am because the gym by me uses grade ranges with colors. I wasn't sure if I was just a dumb gumby for wanting grades, but if the long neck and dyno man agree I feel better about it now.

I don’t get what grade ranges or the colors are, I know about the 3 grading systems however, but my first time going to a gym I was able to climb v4s, I’ve gone a few times since and still haven’t gotten a v5 yet but my visits have been far between so.
@xp8969

Trying to have a consistent grading system has always been a challenge in climbing with the specific difficulties ranging from the differential in difficulty of movements depending on one's size and particular strengths and weaknesses to the difficulty that naturally comes from a diverse group of people climbing all sorts of different things and trying to put an objective number to their subjectively diverse experiences so having a range for each problem's grade actually seems like a good idea to me

I love the chilled out interviews, just letting them talk with the relaxed atmosphere and none standard but interesting question lines
Woow! great video man! Adam is one of those guys who could spend hours nerding out about climbing, training, technics and all of that good stuff
I absolutely agree with Adam on the topic of how much better you can progress when someone explains techniques to you and since you're always alone when it comes to being on the wall, I think an online format would largely have the same effects as someone explaining it in person.. I still remember the first time someone explained a "body wave" (no idea of the correct term, English isn't my first language) using basically only momentum on moves that aren't quite jumps yet, I had been climbing for years at that point but just having someone explain it again, how and where to shift the weight was one of my first experiences of thinking about technique in a way that broke down the movement and less in a childish "I want to reach that hold and it just worked" kind of way. Then doing the movement a bunch go times and getting comfortable with it id different ways, directions etc. I was maybe 11/12 y/o then and it has stuck with me for over a decade, I've had different trainers at different levels since, but that young man explaining this to me still stands as one of the points I remember falling in love with climbing all over again :)
15:40 as a newer climber I could not agree more. getting to know the grading scale has been a huge motivator for me and even if I can't finish a higher grade, I feel good making progress on it knowing its graded harder than my usual sends
Doing silence in silence is now the pinnacle goal
Dude you've already reached the peak of climbing content. I wonder what the next collab gonna be

holy smokes. i really enjoyed that chit chat with you and adam. good job, dude!
My local gyms ran by an old climber. And I like to think he's still in that 90s mindset of sandbag everything, lots of tough overhang crimps and tough grades mindset. When I see young guys who've been climbing for 8+ years falling on 5.10s I like to think it's a true graded gym.

Climbing stuff truly has the best climbing stuff
Really like this conversation. First time to see more related comments (obviously more chill) to how as a beginner and a person interested in climbing stuff understands climbing ;) ;). Now I know that is not necessary to wear really small stiff shoes said by the man himself.
Long neck, almost unbelievable power, unaffected by gravity... My personal theory is that Adam Ondra is an anime character that somehow made it into our world.
Regarding downsizing shoes I want to say that Adam wears LaSportiva Solutions, which you can downsize much more. In contrast, Scarpa recommends not downsizing or only by 1 size.
I live in saskatchewan. Incredibly flat place. Zero outdoor climbing. My city has 2 gyms run by the sake people. But I've heard from people who are from out of town say my gym is graded pretty stiff.
Does anyone know where to find the studies Ondra was talking about, referring to how a smaller or neutral ape index is better for endurance?
4:27 This is one of those jokes that I absolutely love.
the intro musik was killer
You are the best CS
Was here before 1k!!! Cant believe Adam got to meet the world's greatest dynoist.
As a beginner, I can confirm that tape grades are lame. While the important factor is to just focus on climbing and study the pros, climb with multiple vary people, I would still like to accurately track my progress. I would get much more motivation from climbing up with each grade.
The myanmar viewers input in imperial had me rolling

100% with adam, I hate color grading with ranges and grades are super important A gym near me has ranges v4-v6 and v6-v8 for example. Theres such a huge difference between v4 and v6...and v6 and v8...its infuriating...needless to say I just stay on the spray board now when I go there lmao

Who's the name Adam said for the best indoor boulderer??
thanks adam! i am so annoyed by my gym or any gym around just having colour grading. i really dont get it. they say its even not reliable to get the colour right everytime, but then those are just bad routesetters in my opinion
officially pewdiepie of climbing now
I think Matilda Söderlund has an ape index of 14. She mentioned it in a video with Emil Abrahamsson. So you are not completely let down by biology ;)
Who does he say he considers the most consistent indoor boulder climber is? I am new to this scene thanks
+13cm jeeeez! -2cm here 😮😮 luckily (?) I'm 191cm tall so I can still reach haha
on the topic of ape index, doesn’t sorato have a +13cm index? but his endurance/lead capability seems insane
Awesome! So true about the colour grading in the gyms. Demotivating. Uninspiring.
