I think the NBA should drop their routine of guaranteeing multi-year contracts with crazy astronomical salaries because that doesn't guarantee performance. Teams show their best performances in tournaments. (I know I was once a wrestler and feel higher adrenaline of tournaments to regular games. ) Scrap old salaries and make the big tournaments permanent with big payouts per person --- such as the $500k for each player in the wining team --- as a carrot stick to lure their best performance. In this way losing team gets little money.
