Acyl Chloride and Acid Anhydride Reactions|AQA A Level Chemistry Revision
In this video, we go through acylation reactions (3.3.9.2), which are part of the carboxylic acids and derivatives topic of AQA A-level chemistry (3.3.9). I take you through all of the starting and end functional groups, reagents, conditions, and observations for the nucleophilic addition-elimination reactions involving acyl chlorides and acid anhydrides.

absolute lifesaver
The functional group changes for both acyl chlorides and acid anhydrides are the same for each respective reaction! I just wanted to make that as clear as possible in the table, and break them down separately. The main thing to take notice of is the alternative product with acyl chlorides (e.g., HCl) and what observations you would get.
thank you !! You explain so well !!

Thanks, that means a lot :)
Can you do hard paper 3 synoptic questions and some hard calculations please
when reacting with a primary amine and producing a secondary amide, what other products do we produce
why in most resources do they just keep the product as HCl and not NH4Cl for reacting with ammonia and primary amines
Thx

No worries, I've got more videos on carboxylic acids, esters, fats and biofuels, and nucleophilic add-elimination on the way too! Lmk if you need help with anything else
pleaseeee make on azo dyes from the reaction of diazonium , ur videos help me so much

I focus mainly on AQA and azo dyes from the reaction of diazonium is not in the AQA specification so I wouldn't really feel confident teaching it, I hope that makese sense. Sorry :(

I've done a 6-mark past paper question walkthrough on proton NMR, but it's the theory side more so than the organic analysis. I can do a revision video on the analysis side of things if you want? kzread.info/dash/bejne/qGaBya2AmNq0f8Y.html
