The rule of thumb for marine diesels is about 20 HP per gallon per hour. So, 9000/20= 450gph. Then divide that by however fast you think he's going, and there's your gallons per mile. My wild ass guess is 60 MPH, so... 7.5 gallons per mile. Or, 704 feet per gallon.
