Great video. However, I am not a mechanic but I did a lot of research on how to install the struts the correct way. Those mechanics who used the impact wrench to tighten up the top locknut of the strut assembly, were often make the strut prematurely failure as early as 10K miles or less. When the impact wrench spins the nut on the top, it also spins the shaft of the strut at a great speed. The hydraulic valves, which are installed inside the struts, are also spin at the same speed thus create friction heat. It caused the valves to wear out prematurely sooner. You could see some other people complained that KYB isn't good and it last only 20K miles or less. Please have your mechanic install them the right way. There should be a special tool for you to prevent the strut shaft from spinning while you tight up the top lock nut.

Correct , and that special tool is called a wrench . you start the nut on the threads and place a wrench on the flats at the top of the shaft . I do not like to use an impact on the top nut . 1/2 inch ratchet and socket . I wouldn't call this particular person a mechanic , around here we call people like this a " HACK "

Very clear and simple, couldn't ask for more. Also, ty for not adding a soundtrack lol. Best RSX strut assembly how-to so far! 👏

On the rsx and ep3 si you don't need a spring compressor. They're not under load. Just take them apart and lift out the springs.

@anthonyjimenez4871 as long as its the stock setup you don't need a spring compressor for the rsx or ep3. You can use caution and maybe put the compressor on there just in case but I'm telling you when you take the tops off the springs just lift out ...they're not really pushed down like on other cars. If you search online you will find out that I am correct.

Best video on this so far! Thank you! Sizes and tools needed presented up front is a major draw for this video. Other videos just skip through these basics and just poof to the finished product or show time lapses through the important details like tread direction you pointed out on the tie rod. I used this video today to swap my coil-overs out to a new set.

Good day, your video was very helpful as I was changing my struts. I just had a problem on one thing . I changed my coil spring seat but had no clue where in the spring seat is the spring supposed to begin at. You showed where the spring is supposed to start at the bottom of the strut but not at the top.the coil spring seat at the top has a high and lower part on it. I did not pay attention to it when I removed it. Where on the spring seat does the spring start at ? The lower or higher area of the spring seat ? If you could comment I would appreciate it very much. Have a good day.

Question? those two large bolts that are the same on the side are they eccentric? Should you be marking those bolts for alignment?

I can't seem to get the shock to fit into the knuckle since the shock is full extended. The knuckle holes are higher than the shock since it's fully extended. Compressing the spring does nothing since it isn't the spring that needs shortening, but the shock piston itself that needs to be shortened. I am using roll center adjusters on the lower control arms. Any tips? Thanks.

Doesn't those KYB shocks say they can't work with the OEM springs? It says springs with at least 1" drop. What springs did you use?

@@dusan78 the biggest suggestion I’ve found is Progress Coilovers. Vastly cheaper option that still has real RND in their design. Stay away from Tein, BC, and EBay cheapies because those do not have good support, aren’t designed with the same RND standards, and will leave you wishing you hadn’t purchased them.
