Acura RL brake caliper swap for Honda Prelude! BBK unboxing!

Got a great deal on 2005 Acura RL calipers. I plan to swap these Acura RL calipers onto my built turbo 1997 Honda prelude. This is the unboxing and I’m hoping to make a tutorial on the installation at some point this year...so many other projects.
This brake setup works for accords, 5 bolt integra, civic, and many other makes and models.
Fastbrakes.com and www.heeltoeauto.com/big-brake... makes brackets to adapt the calipers to a lot of different Honda and Acura vehicles.

    Mark Avila thanks! I have it on good authority that no master cylinder upgrades or proportioning valve swap is necessary. A friend of a friend circle tracks his 5th gen with this brake assembly.

    VQ_Family Toronto understood! Yea it’s not cheap and most people don’t do it because all in all you are adding more weight with larger rotors “so they say” For me it was a no brainer deal and added stopping power which people also debate about since you can go to a better rotor and better break and stay oem. I am hoping not to have to buy new brembo rotors because they aren’t cheap but we will see.

    Hello. I have a question and hope you could do an experiment for this kind of caliper, Brake pad. I know is a bit expensive and a bit challenge to find those. Just wondering will the Lexus ls400 or Lx470 brake pad ( maybe the hole for the pin will need some drill/modification) will work with tat 4 pot caliper? Hope you can tell us. Thanks

    So I’ve acquired a Acura TL with a 6speed manual and V6 that I’m going to try and swap everything I can to the prelude. It has the same calipers. Wouldn’t it be easier to swap the knuckles over? The lug spacing is the same and I could just get the Acura TL rotors. I haven’t actually seen if the knuckles are the same or not but what are your thoughts

    So you can’t use an oem rotor due to the location of the actual rotor on the hub. If you look online people use multiple combinations of rotors. The biggest con of the upgrade brakes is limiting your wheel options…you have to have clearance with them

    @@thestateofreal2533 thanks for the reply. My prelude is 114.3x4 (282mm front/260mm rear) EUR 1997 2.0i with a swapped F20B, LSD and ECU and bolt ons. I ordered some new lol eBay drilled rotors and found them to give me a ok upgrade. Thing is the durability (never know they may warp easily/soon) I live in the Caribbean so I have to be sure what parts I’m ordering cause custom taxation kills us third worlders. Take care ;). Please post final install with the bracket etc all parts used. I may gradually accumulate these parts. Love the big brakes! Soon to boost. Cheers!!

    with the same brackets you can mount 350z brembos has me thinking which ones are lighter since you need 350z brembo package rotors to go with the acura RL calipers

  • @thestateofreal2533

    @thestateofreal2533

    jcues03 ultimately this whole setup is going to be considerably heavier than stock. Most people who road race their preludes move to stock size HAWK brakes and EBC rotors. This setup is gonna be the lightest setup but at the cost of burning through expensive name brand brakes and rotors. Some move to this setup for its affordability or aftermarket wilwood or powerstop. It all depends on what wheel size you are using as well.

    how would you be compensating for the larger ID of the Brembo 350Z rotors at 66.1mm vs. the Prelude hub at 64.1mm? Do you just buy some plastic 64.1>66.1mm hub rings and cut them down so they won't stick out past the rotor hat?

  • @thestateofreal2533

    @thestateofreal2533

    3 жыл бұрын

    In the past people have just mounted them and slapped their wheels on. Ideally a centering ring would be better obviously. I recently found out that Acura MDX rotors fit better but I have to purchase some to see if they will line up with the brake calipers. I have kinda had this build on hold so that I can accumulate parts smartly and cheaply

    The ID that fits over the hub will need a little grind supposedly but the bolt pattern is the same. I’m hoping to get these ordered soon. I am probably going to make my own mounts as well which might allow me to run smaller rotors. The stock rotors are 11” in diameter 12.78 is a lot bigger hence will create more weight. Non brembo 350z rotors run a little smaller and would still be compatible with custom mounts. I hope to work on this soon and will post up the whole process!
