And while we're being wholesome, can we collectively agree to skip the "pranks" on the public that demean people and instead just focus on funny situations that result in harmless confusion? 1:24 You are correct! Furries came from Funny Animal Comics during the counterculture era of the 60's, specifically the underground comics movement. The comics could be quite sexual (so furries were always horny), but they also had compelling plots and societal criticisms. Fritz the Cat was actually part of this movement. The term furry was coined during the nineties, and so was the first convention (although it was quite small compared to modern conventions)

I love the idea that anyone ever believed that fossil oil coming from dinosaur carcasses instead of oceanic micro-organisms that lived billions of years before their time was a valid theory, when there's been no explanation of why crude oil was never found anywhere around excavated dinosaur skeletons. And oil has been found and used for hundreds of years before the first dinosaur bones were even discovered, meaning we didn't even acknowledge those prehistoric beasts' existence until then. That would mean one of two things: Either no dinosaur skeletons had actually been dug up before, or the ancient civilizations assumed whatever dinosaur bones they found came from some already known animals, like elephants and alligators, and thought nothing else of it.
