With that first airboat glitch, I like how the waves freak out and go in a circle. It's 'cuz the boat isn't moving, so "forward" doesn't mean anything, and it starts doing math with zeroes/very very small numbers and you get weird results.

@Logicphile A map where you can put a watermelon on a hook and pull the fishing rod up after a while and have a chance of getting a weapon ot prop on the hook or sometimes something really rare like a door that takes you to the skybox or a smokestack. The map im taking about is umizuri, check out Obsidian Conflict, which has lots of fishing maps. Whomobile made a video on a fishing map once.

4:50 Fun fact, my first time playing Half Life 2, I got stuck at the very first air-boat puzzle where you use the blue barrels. So my dumbass thought that was it for the boat riding, somehow straffed the jump and made it pass. I continued on foot, had to use cheat codes on the xbox 360 I was playing on over and over again but eventually was soft locked and gave up when the hunter chopper forces you to fight it next to Black Mesa East entrance. Good times.

There's another bug with the airboat if you get pulled by a barnacle: If you continuously shoot the heligun before getting grabbed, the firing sound will loop until you get back in again

man I just noticed that for that metro cop, the post death radio explicitly mentions the location the cop died. I didn't know they'd specify location.

The Cheat Codes also exist on the PS3 version of the game, and the ability to spawn health packs made it a whole hell of a lot easier, though I never actually finished it on PS3.

in real life, you have like nearly 180° vision. if i were in tje players shoes, a high FOV would be more representative of what i'm actually seeing. it may distort when not at 90°, but the realistic immersive vision is a lot more important to me than zooming in to remove distortion. the camera glitching into walls sucks though. hope they fix that.

​@@Flopster101 115 fov on goldsrc games is not the same as 115 fov on source. that's because, when switching from 4:3 to 16:9, goldsrc locks your horizontal fov while source locks your vertical fov. compare half life and half life source side by side running at 4:3 and 16:9 and you'll see what i mean. it's very difficult to describe

The cheat codes work on portal 100% for Xbox. However, there is cheat code txts in HL2/TF2, but I believe the TF2 one is blank. However, TF2 takes many elements from HL2, including dev toggles allowing you to wireframe online on the Xbox (This was discovered as an exploit for PC not too long ago). And from my cvar dump of HL2 on the 360, I don’t recall seeing a command called “mat_software_aa_strength”. However, there are commands hidden from normally being dumped, including using flags.

making sure we didn't miss any traces, i checked the codes on the OG Xbox port of HL2, and it seems that none of the codes work, including AA. although from context clues I'm entirely certain it was an internal dev code to mess with anti-alias strength to test for a compromise between good frames and good AA. (material_software_antialiasing_strength)

Sonic 3D has the weirdest I know of, where to ease certification the dev made it so that certain errors just made the game load the level select with a message saying the player found a secret (or something like that). This is why knocking the cartridge can load the level select.

According to a website with all of the HL2 cvars the AA command is for turning off Anti-aliasing specially "Software AA - perform a software anti-aliasing post-process (an alternative/supplement to MSAA). This value sets the strength to 0" theres also 6 more commands that mess with anti-aliasing. Also the "good job" line was probably just a dev who was tired or didn't care and as long as it wasn't some completely wrong sound they felt it was fine.

the command toggle mat_software_aa_strength is toggling between 0 and 1, when mat_software_aa_strength should either be 0, 2, 4, or 8 (xMSAA)

I'm not sure if this was mentioned before but there's another set of camera soldiers you can kill in a weird way. At the end of d2_prison_07, you get 3 turrets to help you in the turret standoff in block D8. Once Alyx returns you can bring this turret with you into the next level, d2_prison_08. After getting past the soldiers and trapping Mossman, you can leave this turret right outside of the big combine door that gets sealed. Then you go into the room with Mossman, Alyx argues, interacts with the console, and opens up a camera showing the outside with 3 soldiers that your turret then kills.

I also found an interesting bug while messing around with this. While Alyx is waiting for you to walk past the combine door that gets sealed, backtrack to d2_prison_07 then walk into d2_prison_08 again. Alyx will be teleported near you and just remains frozen near the level load trigger. Go back forward past that combine door and now you're sealed in that room without Alyx. After about a minute of her running all the way through the level, she phases through the combine door and the game continues.

That at the end was a tf2 clip! (amazing)

Here’s a fact: some debris don’t have physics, it’s because it’s taken from the original half-life (this is also the case for portal 2)

I can confirm those cheats work on the original Xbox release and orange box. Although I only remember the health cheat, ammo cheat, and level cheat. As a kid that 25pt health code was the only way I could beat the game

Portal 1 uses the exact same cheat codes system as HL2, and I have confirmed that the codes in the equivalent file in Portal work on the XBOX 360 release. I played the xbox one first, so discovering the codes in the PC version and going back to test them, and seeing them work, was quite fun!

As someone who grew up with the consoles version of Orange Box, the cheats do indeed work there too as intended, you can even some of the HL2 cheats in Portal, which can lead to some weird stuff like spawning in items that aren't meant to be in Portal. Portal itself also has unique cheat codes, one of which, that I believe works in HL2 as well, is the ability to spawn one of those energy balls you see in test chambers and have it shoot out from where you are standing

I have the Xbox 360 version of The Orange Box and can confirm the cheat codes work. The dev command does not seem to be used without modifying the game somehow, but i know that people have modded the games to have keyboard input and can enable it. The codes disable achievements too. Also, in Portal, the code " Y A B A B Y Y A " spawns a cube.

Devonly convars are actually disabled entirely in retail builds and you need a memory editor or engine exploit (like the recent hud convar exploit) to change them

Used to use source commands to host modded l4d2 lobbies on 360 back in the day. You could map preset commands to button inputs to enable sv_cheats by editing the save file with a save editor. Probably the same case here.

Cheat codes work in orange box, I used them to spawn a portal cube once to save the companion cube

For Xbox 360 (as well as PS3) it's pretty easy to run console commands by accessing the userconfig and rebind buttons. Fun fact: Half-Life 2 maps can be accessed from both TF2 as well as Portal in the 360 version and PS3 version of The Orange Box. They work and can even be played online on TF2 if you host a server, however there appears to be a map size limit (RAM related?) where certain maps crashes the game more frequently when attempting to load them.

On xbox 360, there are orange box mod tools that you use on your pc and connect to your modded xbox 360 via xbox 360 neighborhood. It allows you to force console and cheat in TF2 by editing game values via a wireless connection

On Xbox 360 at least, you can run conole commands by copying the UserSettings file to external storage and using software to extract it on a PC. The file contains cfg files for each of the games in the orange box that are run when you select a storage device in-game. You can edit these files to bind any command to the controller buttons and run other commands once. It's even considered a save file so you can put it on the cloud to use on Xbox One and Series. I used that technique to force 4K60 on Series X and had a blast. Portal also has cheats codes of its own but your records get invalidated is used in the challenge modes. It actually just checks if sv_cheats was enabled at any point during the run.

The cheat codes for Xbox do in fact work, My achivments on The Orange Box for half life to literally have me put the can in the trash, and the one I unlocked after it is for destroying the citadel, its really cool to use the invincibility cheat to go out of bounds

first you input 'developer 1' then aim at an entity and type 'ent_text' ent_text is what does it, it's a toggle, but for it to work you need 'developer' to be set to 1 or 2.

This last one about "this is a tf2 clip" helped me alot

the codes labelled 'dev' in the cheats do not work without a modded console, but the rest do via the orange box on 360. all cvars that are normally inaccessible on pc are accessible on xbox, such as the aa cvar, however you can use launch options to set said cvars on pc.

These cheat codes were only in the Orange Box release of the games. They work in Portal as well, but again, only the Orange Box version, as it doesn't work in the standalone Still Alive release. BTW these codes had PS3 equivalents as well. Unfortunately my Orange Box disc is scratched to hell but one of my friends who knows a lot about 360 modding told me that the disc 1.0 version of the Orange Box on 360 let's you open developer console when a USB keyboard is connected. I can't remember if you also need a hacked save file or not. This was patched in the only update to the game, so you can't do it in the digital version.

had the orange box on 360 and not only did these cheats work but they also didnt disable achievements, used to grind for that gamerscore on hl2 using them. You didnt need access to the console as entering any of the codes would auto turn on sv_cheats 1 (including the in game notification). The only ones that didn't work were the command launch option ones as you said but Godmode, ammo and chapter unlock definetely worked

For some reason, a lot of the cheats didn't work when I played it on X360. The only ones that did were health, ammo, and invincibility.

This was very intriguing. So there ARE actual cheat codes in HL2? This feels oddly retro, wow. I wonder why they were never mentioned anywhere, but since the PC had the console, it would have probably been sorta useless. I wonder if they break achievements progression like sv_cheats does? As for the FOV, welp, it looks like Valve did it again. It looks kinda odd at values >100, but pretty stupid they haven't fixed the clipping issues yet.

@@Majima_Nowhere Yep, I'm afraid. These gens may be old but the games are nowhere near dated unless you're thinking about graphics exclusively, and even then, most of these games look really good. But HL2 being retro is now old news. Its gameplay style and especially the extensive use of physics have not been seen in ages in the triple-A industry in particular.

I once edited my portal save file to enable developer mode so I could use noclip once when I was younger. I didn't have the pc version then and I was obsessed with trying to get to cake room and the outside parking lot in the games finale. Having only the Xbox version, noclip was impossible and I really really wanted to try it like some people did on the pc version. I remember putting my save onto a USB and using a hex editor to enable developer mode so I could noclip.
