    “She’s inviting you to bring your own truth and meet her there.” -Brilliant analysis, Cedric, of how Sohyoung makes us feel whatever WE are feeling, or need to feel, instead of imposing her feelings on us. I’d not put that distinction into any kind of coherent thought before, but it so brilliantly encapsulates her gift. Thank you for yet another informative and entertaining reaction video 💜

    I love your analysis of her as her and Dimash is on a plane of their own in terms of making their covers better than the original! They are the epitome of true artists; they sing the song in terms of how best to serve each note, word, phrase of the song!!!! Aloha from Hawaii!

  • @linzigrogan6844
    @linzigrogan68442 жыл бұрын

    This wonderful lady can sing literally any genre & I am sure that the more you listen to her, the more you will discover this for yourself. Just to prove this to the extreme, I suggest you listen to her performance of Ella Fitzgerald’s ‘Misty’ from the ‘begin again Korea’ (recorded during the pandemic so pretty much current as far as Sohyang performances go) series & her performance of ‘day day’ either from the ‘king of mask singer’( solo performance) or once again from the ‘begin again Korea’ series ( with other singers but she has the bulk of the vocal) both on which you will hear this angel on earth RAPPING!!!!! yes I did say rapping!!! Another great reaction, your joy was there for all to see. I think this re-arranged performance by Sohyang is another example of how she can take a song,in this case a very famous song, and make it her own & in my opinion make it better than the original, although I realise this is subjective.anyone listening to the original first or was already familiar with the song would I’m sure never think that it could be elevated to the level that you have just experienced. Up until I heard Sohyang’s version, if I heard the words ‘bridge over troubled water’ I would automatically think ‘Simon & Garfunkel’, but her version has had such a profound effect on me that I now associate the song with Sohyang before anything else. It had an immediate effect on me and at that point it was the very 1st time I heard Sohyang sing so I had no idea of the fact that Sohyang is just so special & that every performance by her would give me the ‘goosies’, as far as I was concerned it was just a one off. I am really happy that you made a point of saying with regard to her riffs/runs that she wasn’t trying to show off her technical abilities just because she can & that they were in fact emotionally driven. I am sure you gave come across those people who seem to have it in for Sohyang for some reason, those who say she just screams & she puts too many riffs/runs in just to show off because she’s in my opinion, and the majority of other viewers that have more than one brain cell ( sorry but they really annoy me!!) I, like you, never feel like ‘ oh she’s just showing off’ when we hear her doing runs. I always feel like they are just an extension of her emotion but only when it’s needed. Another great reaction & I believe that Sohyang & Dimash are on a different level to anybody else BUT I think that if my dream of a collaboration between Sohyang & Dimash were ever to materialise i don’t think that I would want to be the person that recommended it to you because I think you may spontaneously combust & I couldn’t live with the guilt 😂😂. I look forward to more Sohyang reactions from you as I can’t wait to see the realisation in you when you think ‘hang on a minute,every Sohyang performance is a mix of perfect technical skill combined with the power to emote & tell a story thru a song & not just the songs I’ve heard so far’!!!

    Cedric I agree with you that it's crazy not too many people know about So Hyang who possesses immense vocal talent. As a So Hyang superfan and a research nerd I found some things about her. Without having a record label or social media, she is still the number one reacted solo Korean singer on KZread. Also all her videos including fan channel videos and reaction videos, she has amassed more than 1 billion views and counting. Also she is the only Asian singer to have the covetted Star ratings on the Critics Of Music website standing amongst alikes of Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin and Beyonce. This is her 4th year in a row on that list.

    A masterpiece of an arrangement (she does her own) and mind blowing vocals (as always). Love what she did with this Simon and Garfunkel classic. She is next level. You are spot on with the analysis. Thank you for the reaction. You should check out her singing in Korean next. React to Arirang Alone (a folk song). It will blow your mind.

    Very glad to see you react to Sohyang's "Bridge Over Troubled Water". I have seen this performance hundreds of times over a period of 6 years, and posted probably hundreds of comments along the way. Honestly, the juice of my cerebral cortex has somehow run dry to come up with things to say lately. However, I must applaud you for your analysis. while you worked so diligently to point out the vocal techniques and visual choices employed in this performance video, I must thank you for your remarks on two points of your feedback. The first one is how much the performance was earned through detailed preparation and deliberate vocal choices as illustrated in your discussion of vowel style in the song. The second one, and the one central to the reaction to this performance, is the comment on how Sohyang invites you into the emotional journey of this performance. It's a collaboration between her and you, the listener. I have seen some truly amazing and phenomenal stages from other artists, but none came anywhere close to the intimacy and potency of this performance to me. Sohyang's voice served as the key to opening the hidden emotions locked inside me, and they burst out voluntarily to couch in the sense of warmth and reassurance provided by Soyang's sincere voice and, dare I say, welcoming soul of hers. It's delightful to hear your pointing this out. Thank you for the wonderful reaction, and hope to see you again.

    Such a great breakdown of this iconic song with the ultimate of singers! So Hyang is pure magic! I saw an interview where she said she sings a song a hundred times leading up to a performance. We think it is so effortless partly because she is ultra prepared going in. She is the perfect blend of professionalism, talent, and working warrior! This combo makes her one of the best vocalists on earth! 'Misty' is so different and ' I Have Nothing' (in blue dress) is also amazing and so many, many more!

    Welcome back to Sohyang's world. We are happy to see you back. :) "Bridge Over Troubled Water" was a classic by Simon & Garfunkel, released 1970 as a type of folk rock. It has been covered many times since then. I highly suggest going to listen to the original so you can compare it to how Sohyang arranged it here.

    Oh, I recommend her time on Begin Again Korea, a show which follows well known Korean musical artists as they busk in different countries. She was recently on as one of those guest artists,. Anything she sings is lovely, but I especially love her cover of IU's Love Poem. Also, today was not the easiest day and just hearing her first two lines, I was already tearing up.

    Cedric, this is a wonderful analysis of Sohyang's singing! You really know what your are talking about and help me to understand so much more of what is happening right in front of my eyes but that I don't quite consciously comprehend. I only "see" it but don't quite grasp the real depth of what Sohyang is accomplishing through all of the stage craft. It is sinking into my mind but it is so much more enjoyable to have someone like you, with your seemingly innate sixth sense for it all, clue me in to what the entire performance is conveying. Thank you so much for this! 👌😉👍😮😎🎸🎸💘🛸

    WOW! Cedric. Your comprehension of who and what the lady Sohyang is as a person astounds me. You have only seen her twice and this analysis is terrific. Your perception speaks well of you .She is what we seem to see on our flickering little computer screen - the surprising thing is that we instantly know it. Sohyang is the designer of her stage performances - especially the musical arrangement and ambiance. Sohyang is one of a kind. We love her. As you see more of her, your perception will be vindicated. Thanks for a terrific reaction video. Cheers.

    I think the lack of close familiarity with "Bridge Over Troubled Water" is mainly a generational difference. When I was growing up, it was playing on the radio all the time, but now that you mention not being very familiar with it, it occurs to me that my children (who are both in your age range) probably haven't heard it all that much either. Maybe I should start throwing some of the "classics" at you as reaction suggestions. 😊 *coughAnythingByKarenCarpentercough* (Or, to tie it back in to this reaction, you might want to also react to someone who was a direct influence on Sohyang's style, such as Whitney Houston during her prime.)

    Great reaction!!! As you probably noticed from "Everyone" and "You raise me up," Sohyang shows more colors of Christian God. And for Immortal Songs, she has more rooms to rearrange the songs, thus, she does it a little more. I believe she probably picked this song (among the English Pop songs Koreans loved - this episode) because Jesus is the Bridge between God and human beings. Hence, the speaking voice in the end as if Jesus is speaking because He really laid himself down for us.
