I've been a Labor voter for decades but in recent years I've found that the ALP has become less aligned with average Australian working and middle class values. In protest, at the last federal election I didn't give the ALP my first preference in the senate. At the next election they won't even get my first preference in the house of reps.

The only conclusion that can be drawn is that some political parties in Australia have either done nothing or have chosen not to step in to halt these persistent, obviously extreme acts of racism. Such violence is not what our past represents. Voters will remember which political parties said or did little in response to these acts of bigotry and extremism when it comes time to choose new leaders for the government. This is not Australian, and it is not good enough. The political will needed to put an end to these brutal atrocities is impossible to bear.
