This lesson features a teletherapy role play session I conducted with a “client” named Stan who struggles with debilitating anxiety.
This video provides a sneak peek into our on-demand course, ACT in Practice, with Dr. Steven C. Hayes. You can find out more and enroll at:

Inside this lesson you'll learn...
• How to harness a client’s anxious energy to fuel connection to their values
• How to cultivate and utilize your own psychological flexibility to connect more deeply with your client
• A method of combining imaginal exposure therapy with direct experiential elements that are guided by an ACT model
• Powerful interventions your client can channel into work between sessions
• Why grounding emotional experience in the body helps guide your client to change their relationship to debilitating emotions
-
Building on foundational ACT understanding, ACT in Practice focuses on bridging the gap between theory and practical application.
With an emphasis on seeing ACT “in action” through extensive real-play and role-play exercises, the course provides you with cutting-edge diagnostic and case conceptualization tools to help you channel your current ACT knowledge and experience into more powerful interventions, and to continuously update your approach through all phases of the therapeutic relationship.
After going through this self-paced online course, you'll be able to apply ACT and its psychological flexibility model with greater confidence and creativity - even in complex cases - and be more effective at creating lasting and self-sustaining change in the lives of those you serve.

This is a wonderful exercise! I use I’m a loser. I replaced it with I am worthy! Repeating like a mantra. My therapist told me about you and ACT. I bought the book. Watching you is my beginning. I also keep in mind the rope exercise. I enivision the rope and say softly to myself let go of the rope. Practice, practice. Thank you for allowing me to visit your site and learn and reprogram! ❤

Thanks for sharing that! I just started reading your book and loving it after a similarly painful long phase of hiding, anxiety and more and gradually ‘waking up’ right now, so I loved a practical example and insight, I think it makes it even more graspable than can be described by the written word :)

@@EugenieMacGillavry I think they're asking whether the client is an actor, since in the description it says "client" in quotes like that :)
