Just make sure it's one of the wind-resistant lighters. It can't just be a regular lighter because you still need the forced air with the heat. Theh regular lighters just have flames.

FlowArt EveTzOriginals, I have not sold any because when COVID hit, I donated all my gloves and couldn’t buy paper towels for months so I took a break from paining. So all that is on hold for awhile. I hope I can start painting again soon and that these will sell for the holidays though. As far as what I seal them with, I found that Minwax polyurethane (not polycrylic) spray worked best. I’ve washed these by hand and they’ve held up well. I wouldn’t recommend any painted glass be washed in the dishwasher. I think I answered your question on Instagram but just in case, yes, you could use pre-mixed paint but I know some brands aren’t as good at creating cells. Since it takes so little paint to dip glasses though, it’s definitely worth trying. Have fun.

Sorry I missed your message as I try to reply to each one right away. To answer your question, yes, I mix the acrylic paint with Floetrol which is a paint conditioner you can get in Home Depot, Lowes and I think they might have it at Walmart. For this dipping process, it's generally a little thicker than fluid paint that's poured on a canvas. The general ratio is about 1 part paint to 2 parts Floetrol although that depends a little on the brand of paint too. If it's thinner to begin with, then it's closer to 1:1. You want it thick enough to not run off the glass but not so thick that it's like painting with a brush. Hope that helps.

Nancy, you can use resin but I will use the dishwasher safe Mod Podge that’s made for glass. Resin is too toxic. I just saw another artist’s pictures of her skin with the worst rash from resin. All the way down to her feet so it wasn’t even a contact rash. It was systemic and that’s too scary for me. I tried resin last summer on a few sets of tile. I still have some left but I’m not sure I’ll use it up. If I do, I’ll wait till I can do it with all the windows open. It’s too cold now.

@@jzeegers for this dip technique, I make my recipe a little thicker than normal pouring just so it sticks easier to the glass without running off. But the exact recipe depends on what paint you're using because some are thinner/thicker than other brands or even colors. The pouring community always describes the basic pouring recipe should turn out like the consistency of warm honey. So if you think of that consistency but make it a little thicker, you'll be fine. To give you a basic example though, my normal pouring recipe for "most" paint brands is usually one part paint to two parts floetrol and a bit of water if it's still not thin enough to pour freely. So depending on which paint you use, I'd start with a one-to-one ratio and if it doesn't move/flow at all, then keep adding a little more floetrol but for dipping, I wouldn't add much water, if at all. Hope this helps. Have fun. If your recipe or dip doesn't work, at least it's only a small amount wasted. ;) Just wipe it off well and dip again with a different recipe.

Here’s another video I did with the best sealant option I found. It’s lasted for years on these glasses but I always ONLY wash them by hand and dry them. kzread.info/dash/bejne/YoiX0qWrhpOynbw.htmlsi=E1HRYtS-_qWnh5g9 I did another experiment and let them sit in water for 15-20 min and that started to make the painted/sealed area a little soft which meant it was degrading. So as soon as it felt tacky to touch, I dried it thoroughly, let it sit for 24-36 hours and then used the same spray varnish (from the video). It hardened up and was just like when I first did them. No lasting negative effects. So if you left them in water too long, the paint would separate from the glass I believe. Since it’s a smooth surface with water-based acrylics, the adhesion isn’t strong like if you had a porous surface. There are glass paints that I think you could used this same dipping technique but I haven’t tried those. Good luck and have fun. 👍🏻

My pouring mixture is any acrylic paint, American floetrol, and sometimes a bit of water to thin it out for certain techniques. But for dips like this, it’s a little thicker.

I’m assuming after it’s been sealed and cured properly the glass would be hand wash only?

Yes. I've always hand washed any painted glass. I was going to see what would happen in the dishwasher but I don't want to risk damaging the dishwasher if something wonky happened. ;)

I don't haven't a video on mixing paints for this dip. But here's the basic recipe. 1 part acrylic paint to 2-3 parts Floetrol. Try to get the consistency close to what you see on this video. If it's too runny, it doesn't really work well so start with 1:2 ratio. If you add too much Floetrol, then your own option is to keep adding more paint until it thickens up. One more thing to note. Depending on the thickness of the acrylic paint brand you're using will make a difference how much Floetrol you need to get the right consistency. So sometimes the cheaper craft paints from Walmart, for example, are thinner than the thicker, more expensive ones in art supply stores. Best thing is to add a little floetrol at a time until you get the creamy texture. When you're dipping glass, it's best to be on the thicker side vs when you're pouring on a canvas. Hope that helps.

Yes, I had a silicone mat on the counter for this video. It's one from lolivefe.com. They have a ton of silicone products. But before I bought the silicone mat, I used to use the shiny side of freezer paper which I just got at Walmart. Paint peels off that just as well so you can reuse it several times.

5:16 wash it off if you don't like it, how? Not a stupid question at all. You have two options if you don't like how it turned out. 1) You can rinse it off right away with water while it's still wet paint or 2) If you want to let it dry first and see if you end up liking it the next day, you can still wash the paint off with water. If you're using acrylic paint, it's all water based so it'll come off as long as you don't seal it with anything first. I don't recommend letting the paint run down your sink drain though. It's not going to damage the drain or anything but not adding more pollutants to the water system isn't too good. You can set the glasses in a bucket or dish of hot soapy water for awhile and the paint will come off pretty easily. Once it settles to the bottom, you can pour off the water and wipe out the paint residue at the bottom. Feel free to ask anything you like. Nothing is silly or stupid. If I don't have the answer, I'll help you find it. I'm always learning something new myself too. :)

I use hot water, as hot as I can stand it, (choose only Your water temp), Clorox Bleach, dish liquid and/or detergent, white vinegar, and let me pieces soak. In the meantime and in-between times, some times I scrub and/or scrape gently with the smooth edge of a knife and me fingernails. I thoroughly rinse it off and allow it to completely dry. I then saturate the inside/outside with clear rubbing alcohol, and let it dry - and the process of creation begins. Don't panic. You've got this. Just be gentle. Think of it as brushing your glory, your hair while you are cleaning any glass piece in which you want to work on and you will be more than superfine, okay. TIP: Please, do Not use hand sanitizers on any of your glass projects, as it will give off a dull cloudy look - unless that is what you desire to capture. Hope this helps.

If I bake them, will that hurt?

Honestly, I have never tried baking anything painted. One reason is, I was always afraid to get smells in the house from chemicals. Plus we had a new oven when I started doing these so I didn't want to risk something ruining the oven. ;) Here's a link though from the Plaid website about baking painted glass. But when people explain this process, they're usually showing examples on ceramic cups, not clear glasses. I'd be concerned the clear glass would be too fragile, especially if they were stemmed. plaidonline.com/brands/folkart/folkart-enamels/how-to-cure-painted-glass-projects The other thing I don't know about is baking paint on glass when there's floetrol in the paint as I use. I'm not sure what happens to floetrol when heated. It could give off toxins. Maybe check with other artists or Google some. Just be careful. :)

Using a torch or heat gun on acrylic paint that has a pouring consistency, has two purposes: 1) helps pops air bubbles so that they don't leave weird divots in your design and 2) helps to create cells in the design.

How long do you let paint cure before sealing with the mod podge?

Wallnuts1234 , 3-4 weeks. It can’t breathe very well on the glass so make sure it’s well cured. But after I did this with Mod Podge, I found a spray that work better, much faster, and no streak or brush marks. Here’s that video. kzread.info/dash/bejne/YoiX0qWrhpOynbw.html

No she doesn’t do videos. She’s in one of my pouring groups so I asked her if I could just give her a shout out and she agreed.

That is a vodka server. Those probably came with a largish bowl. You fill that bowl with ice, fill the bottom of the glasses with vodka, set them in the ice.Drink.

I tried today on two glasses and got lots of air bubbles so I’ll need to get a torch, I wanted to ask do you think I need a medium in addition to floetrol or is that sufficient, thanks again for all the help!

@@amarie738 I only use floetrol for getting cells. When I first started painting, I tried silicone but it was very greasy and hard to fully wash off canvases before varnishing. I think if you used it on glass, the paint might not adhere as well but you could always try some if you have it. If you don't want to buy a torch for the air bubbles, you can always use a toothpick or pin to pop them if there aren't that many. Another tip if you're getting bubbles is to not shake or mix your paints right before you pour. Too much agitation causes bubbles. If you can, let them sit still for a few hours before. Hope that helps. Good luck. Aside from the bubbles, did you like how the design turned out?

It might not make a perfectly smooth finish over glitter since that's bumpy. You could try multiple coats letting it dry in between but I suspect you might still feel the glitter bumps. Let me know if you decide to try that though. I'll be curious what it feels like.

I listened to my video again and yes, at the end, it sounded like I said, "anyways" but I assure you, I didn't. I've been a writer and editor for years so I do know there is no such word. But I realize I am not the best at making videos. I know I talk too quietly and sometimes mumble to myself while I'm painting and recording these videos. I also don't enunciate very well so it did sound like I said "anyways." ANYWAY, hope you enjoyed the painting technique. :)

First of all it's going to peal off. Glass is non porous. Acrylic paint will not stick to it. Period! This sort of Craft is just silly. Real art takes skill and ability. Anyone can throw paint all over a room. Show me what you can do as a "real" artist.

Well you're full of sugar and spice. By the way, I've been using these painted AND sealed glasses for over two years and with hand washing, the paint is still in tact. Go figure? But you're entitled to your opinion and I'm assuming you're just having a bad day but at least you took time to watch my video. ;)
