    I'm not sure what he uses, but look into sta-wet palletes! They're basically parchment paper over a sponge that keeps the paint wet

    I always have trouble with acrylics drying way too fast. How did you avoid the paints drying quickly on the palette?

  • @mike7gerald

    He's using a 'wet palette'; its a sponge under his wax paper palette. The water from the sponge soaks into the paper palette and keeps the acrylic paints moist. Notice that he said to put the used brushes into water, because if they dry the brush is ruined.

    How do you prevent the paint drying on the palette while working with acrylic on plein air?

  • @Blick_Art

    @Blick_Art

    Keeping a spray bottle with water and a little denatured alcohol to mist over the palette helps a lot. The Masterson Sta-Wet Palette with the sponge insert is like magic, though, providing a humid environment and wicking water into the paint.

    The color scheme defeats the purpose of "plein air" demonstration...(colors used are not on nature ...if he's giving a demo on "plein air" needs to be within the realm of nature....the colors used here can be explained in a studio painting taken from a plein air study...

    I agree that his use of colors is a bit garish. Perhaps that's the way he sees things, but I would use more neutrals…
