ACO - John Feeney, Bass

Музыка

John Feeney demonstrates the power and subtletyof gut strings on his his "big-shouldered" 18th century bass, and descibes how the ACO’s blend of natural instruments produces a "deeper realization of the music”. I just love everything about this. I think Ben Wolfe used to have a similar bass shape. I love them shoulders.

I’m using a eudoxa low B/C string. On rare occasions i use a low E string - also a wound gut eudoxa- good for jazz- anything.

How is the tension in the eudoxa wound gut E? I’m using a synthetic right now at about 45 lbs of tension. Was wondering if the eudoxa was similar?

Do you have any thoughts on what bow hair, bow weight and rosin type works best with gut strings?

Used to play on a bass with shoulders kind of similar to these ones. The most uncomfortable experience in my life as bassist....

Don't know why people still like steel strings . Didn't change back since I first put gut strings on. Completely right!

What are the tensions on the unwound guts Mr. Feeney? Are those medium sets? or heavy?

The top three strings are Antiquus unwound gut made by Nicholas Baldock- the bottom is a siver wound low C by Eudoxa.

If you don't mind me asking, how does that work for you having the Low C set up "normal". Or are you in 5th tuning?

I always tend to hate the tone of gut strings. Sounds horrible. The bass player is good though!
