1. ACL Repair:

This method is typically suitable for partial tears or when the ACL has avulsed from the bone (pulled away from its attachment point). ACL repair is less common than reconstruction and may be considered in certain cases where the tear is located in a favorable position, and the ligament can be effectively repaired without significant tissue damage.
Pros of ACL Repair:

- Faster recovery compared to reconstruction.

Cons of ACL Repair:

2. ACL Reconstruction:
ACL reconstruction is the more common surgical treatment for a complete ACL tear. In this procedure, the damaged ACL is replaced with a graft, typically using tissue from the patient's own body (autograft) or a donor (allograft). The graft is fixed in place with screws or other devices to function as a new ACL and stabilize the knee.
Pros of ACL Reconstruction:
- More suitable for complete ACL tears and significant knee instability.
- Lower risk of re-tear compared to repair.
- Can be performed using minimally invasive techniques.
Cons of ACL Reconstruction:
- Longer recovery time compared to repair.
- Involves the use of grafts, which can lead to graft-related complications.
- Potential for graft failure or re-tear in some cases.
The decision between ACL repair and reconstruction depends on various factors, including the severity of the ACL tear, the patient's age, activity level, and overall knee stability.
