Do you have an ACL and meniscus tear?
Earlier this year, I worked with a client who had an ACL tear and surgery last year. The ACL graft was rejected by her body and the surgeon decided to remove her ACL. She did not have an ACL in her knee for 4 months as she waited for her second surgery.
I assessed her three weeks after her second ACL surgery and I was shocked at the results of her physical therapy assessment.
She had full motion in her knee, no pain, and good strength in her quadriceps muscles. It’s unusual for someone to have such good range of motion and strength immediately after an ACL surgery.
What was the secret to her success after ACL surgery?
During those four months without an ACL, she was active, went to the gym, and she was still strong from all the rehab she did after her first surgery.
Her quads were strong. Her hips were strong and she had full motion in her knee before the surgery from all the prehab she completed.
If you want to keep playing sports and avoid another ACL tear then you should prehab your knee to restore range of motion and strength to your quads before your ACL or meniscus surgery.
