I played this game. The 6 rectangular white lights on the rear spine are the Micro-Torpedo Phalanx launchers. They were designed to deliver a massive “broadside” attack. It was also equipped with Ablative Armor like the Defiant. In the game, Thomas Riker was released from prison and made Captain of the USS Achilles. It mostly did hit and run surprise attacks deep behind enemy lines… the types of attacks he used when he stole the Defiant.

This ship is what if Starfleet tryed to build a Babylon 5 Whitestar.

The Achilles class at just over 600m is smaller then the sovereign class, armed with both phases and pulse phaser cannons.

Surprised you guys didn't look up the intro to Dominion Wars, as it does also showcase the Achilles class in action against a Cardassian Hutet and saves the USS Defiant. As for the Phalanx system, its actually a dorsal mounted system that allows for a rapid fire Torpedo "broadside" barrage. She's equipped with both Phaser Arrays and Phaser Cannons. That picture you thought was of the Torpedos was actually the Phaser Cannons. The game also featured other interesting designs like the Klingon K'vort'cha and the mentioned Cardassian Hutet.

Oh cool! The Achilles is one of my favorite designs.

A sovereign class is 685 meters long. That ship is not "many times" the size of it.

I came to say it is actualy smaller then the Sovereign and larger then the Akira it was basicaly between the two in game.

Its also now in STO and is predicably as badass as it looks to be. also features the iconic huge top mounted qunatum torpedo launch method that basically saturation bombs everything. its hilarious. Its like it so the defiant and went "let me show you how its done little bro"

I always would love to see you do a look at the Chodak Dreadnought from A Final Unity I got Dominion Wars when it came out in 2001 and it was very buggy and most of the ships were unbalanced. Even the Achilles which was meant to be this all amazing warship was very weak and would easily get destroyed a lot. In the Federation campaign, Thomas Riker becomes captain of the Achilles after you rescue him

This ship was introdused in Star Trek Dominion

This has always been one of my favorite Federation designs. Love it!

It's like the Inquiry and the Intrepid classes made some sweet music together.

I played it once but it was only barely compatible with my computer. I liked it and the ship. Always wished that it would eventually end up in STO

612 isn't many times bigger than the Sov, its 685, I think Sam is tired, haha

I rather like it. It puts me in the mind of a TRUE starfleet dreadnought if you absolutely arm and armor it to the 9s, have a raised multi deck comms bridge underneath a third, small "booster" nacelle like a third fin in unison with the two nacelles. Which this really would fit the Borg/Dominion fleet aesthetic needed to meet the demands of those skirmishes.

I owned this game back then. Lost the hard copy of it years ago. One of the most fun I had playing trek.

I had this game and one of the special functions was the ability to import ships from star trek starship creator. The feature didn't work so well.

I never figured out how that worked. Could you really add more classes, were there models for them or was is just existing classes but with different stats?

@@ASB-dr8je you were meant to be able to create visual variants of a ship class using the new parts in star ship creator. Eg a defiant that would be stock but look funky. However by the time it was imported into Dominion wars it would be stock in all respects just with the name you gave it in starship creator 😂😂 good idea just poorly executed.

I'm glad to see a lot of the early 2000's game ships showing up. The achilles is definitely one of my favorite from that era along with Starfleet Command's Arc Royal class. For the actual achilles she shows up in Dominion War's intro cinematic which is no doubt meandering around on youtube. The Hutet is a cardassian design from that game that I also appreciated.

I think that the developer just pondered "If I drew a ship with dog poop would they still pay me?"

You guys got mixed up. Trek ships are always in meters. The Sovereign class is just shy of 700m.

Maybe fanhome which acquired the eaglemoss license will create a physical model

Never played the game, but I've always looked the general look of the Achilles class, although there are quite a few odd design characteristics in need of refinement. But maybe the lack of aesthetics other than her arrow-shaped hull was intentional, as if to say that this ship was wielded together in as short amount of time as possible for the war effort, and that shipyards and engineers didn't have time to sculpt her design on the holo-drawing boards like they normally would. For that matter, that could explain the appearance of the Steamrunner class, which is generally more blocky-looking than most Starfleet designs

I had that game a couple of decades ago. I was never able to install or play it on my computer. I must have lost it over the years.

Dominion Wars was a great game! The problem was it had loads of compatibility issues as it was designed to run on Windows 95-2000/ME

@@troybuchanan8676 You have to run a repair thing that rescans the program every time on certain versions of windows to get it to work. It has something to do with Direct X graphics if I recal.

If you are going to instal dominion wars on a modern PC.... I got it to run on my macbook’s windows partition, you have to change the way the hexadecimal thing is set up. From a 16 bit down to an 8 bit or something like that. There’s a tutorial how to do it on KZread. Surprisingly I got it to work.

The problem was the gaming engine they used for the game. It was advanced, for the time. But it's primitive compared to Star Trek Online. The micro quantum torpedo phalanx was supposed to auto fire on multiple ships, but it never worked. My understanding was Gizmo never got it to work as intended and gave up on it. It still performed better than the Defiant, in my opinion. The Defiant doesn't perform as well in games as it does in shows and movies. But it's also plated with "plot armor" like most hero ships in Star Trek. I've heard rumors that someone got that system to work, but I have still not found a ROM file for the game that is compatible with current versions of Windows.

Im getting more of a SeaQuest vibe rather than Starfleet.

The Protector and the Voyager and a Klingon ship got together.

I loved this games. It's a nice ship but the one I fell in love with was the Cardassian Tonga Class.

Yeah it was Star Trek dominion Wars where this ship made its debut still got it somewhere back home in Tennessee but still for is it in stow? That would be outstanding if it were true I don't know if they publisher even exists with the licensing rights even be attainable

I remember as a kid wanting to get this game but my mom read reviews of it online and told me to just keep playing Armada 😆

I remember the dominion war game and had it. As a game I remember the software being extremely buggy which interrupted, what would have otherwise have been a fairly good, gameplay experience

Played this game. Honestly it was pretty mid even for the time. Always liked this ship though.

Might want to change the title if this ship is not in STO
