I love how Valve keeps all their games in the same universe. Even if its zombies, headcrabs, portal guns, or animated characters fighting over intel, its always the same feel, as if it could be in the same universe. I love Valve. xD
thank you so much i wasnt in the mood to replay the entire game and didnt think to check behind the area
I was like holy ship I got it

Nice pun.
When I finished Portal 2 i immediately went on here to find their achievement videos for Portal 2. thank you Jack and Geoff for helping us.
im such a sucker for canon hidden like this. i also think its awesome as hell that valve put two completely different games in the same world.
i loved finding this one, even before watching this
Thx for helping me with this I've seen vids of the boreal is in portal 2 but I thought it was fake but thank u for teaching me how to get there
1 borealis + 2 half-life= half-life 3 confirmed

octavio pb OF COURSE I WON'T JAPANESE STUFF IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!(I am literally searching for the best price for some mangas. The title of that series is Shugo Chara! (pronounced 'Shoe'-'go' 'cay'-'ruh'(like CHARActer) and I used to read it in seventh grade, but I was all out of order since several of the books went missing, and now I want to allow other people to not go through what I went through by buying copies of the missing books to give to my old middle school)
i have all the achivments but its always fun to just listen to geoff and jack :D
WHAT!!! That is crazy dude. I stood and looked at that drydock for like 3 minutes and derped my ass out.
Thank you
The doors on the way to the shipyard place all have funny experiment announcements as well.
Another note, Those other doors behind the automatic hidden doors are some of the ones that count towards the "door prize" achievement.
@bordarboy yep those are for an other achievement which is where you have to find the 6 vitrified doors (which are all in that chapter).
Thanks
amazing.
Thanks to this video I also got the Door Prize achievement. :)
this is probably the first time ive watched a achievement hunter video so i could learn how to get the achievement
@MrDoItL4ter Well if you listened to the vitrified door next to it, it says stuff about teleportation experiments which may also be why its up in the Arctic in EP2
I am glad that the 6:30 minute add is skippable!
this is one of theeeee awesomest secrets ever!!!!!!
i love this game so fucking much I wish it never ended but every time I think about it it makes me sad that it does end
thx to u guys i now have all sinplayer acheivments thx
You can press "use" on the three intercom's in the hallway to the shipyard for some extra monologues from Cave.
@zartelim i have many reasons for this, user made maps supported, better graphcis, you need that fast moving mouse sometimes, unless you have a very high sensitivity with your controller. if you hate mouse and keyboard, you can plug in your wired xbox controller to your pc and start the game it is fully supported and with fully customisable controlls. etc.etc
yea i also found this one on accident. I couldnt figure out what to do and found it thinking it was the way to continue... but once i got the achievement i knew it wasnt the right place
@bordarboy Once you go up the elevator on the ship (closer to the beginning of the chapter) there will be 3 across the pit under a diagonal wall that is supposed to portal you over to a doorway. It shouldn't be difficult to miss.
You can also get an achievement if you examine those three vitrified doors (and the three ones you see earlier).
@deathblade7 the game makes autosaves but if you didnt save at the particular mission you will just have to do a few puzzles to get to this part
In the comic book Lab Rat there's a page with the HEV suite wall thing from Half-Life 1 a combine health recharged and the grav gun
lol i love jacks reaction, "oh my god it is a door!"
For anyone who noticed, there are 3 vitrified chamber doors there. There are 3 more just before the elevator to the first blue gel test. if you press the buttons next to all six doors, they have Cave talking about the tests behind the doors, and you get an achievement.
if you activate the buttons by those steel doors (they are littered through out this chapter in out of the way places) you can hear Cave Johnson introducing the test subjects to the silly test they are about to take.
when i did this achievement i came across the vitrified doors achievement as well. when you walk through the hidden door click X (for x-box) on the 3 doors in the hallway. cave also speaks about aperture when you do that.
i found this when i first played the game and i thought that you were supposed to go there :D
Three of the vitrified test chamber doors are there, the other two are in the beginning of the chapter after the elevator.
@TheMightyPnut You also have to listen to 2 other doors earlier in the Chapter so, it snot just the once in the hallway.
I'm not sure if you guys have done this but at the end of the first chamber in chapter 7 before you go through the second emancipation grid there's a white surface to the upper left. That leads to an office with a portrait in it and the achievement "Portrait of a lady"
I only bought Portal 2 a fortnight ago and I only finished the solo campaign yesterday. The only optional achievement I got was "No Hard Feelings" after I read through the achievements before chater 4 and recognised the description when I reached that area.
@MrDoItL4ter It doesn't get out; that's the point. It's Aperture's research ship. When you're doing the Cave Johnson part, you're almost always on the Borealis.
do i have to go and restart a new single player if i missed these achievements? or is there like a chapter selection?
If I go through the challenge mode, which one should I choose?
Also you can get the door prize achievement in there too
i also found it by accident. this game is just so confusing but i love it so much!
Officially, it had been rumored the ship carries some form of powerful teleportation technology, made in Apeture Science's rush to beat Black Mesa at teleportation. Well, it went horribly right, not only taking away the entire ship, but part of the dry dock. It is impressive in the sense that normal teleports were only able to teleport anything smaller than a man. And if it falls to Combine hands... not even Gordon Freeman could bail us out
If you press E on the little intercoms next to the doors on the way to the ship bay, you get a message from Cave Johnson.
You also get " Door Prize" achievement if you press X near those "vitrified" doors in the hallway after entering the silver door
@metroidsax1 the borealis was an aperture vessel. from the look of the schematics, it was outfitted with large portal technology, which explains two major things: 1 keep in mind that this is miles beneath the surface of the earth, so the large portal is presumably the way it got out. 2 this larger portal is the reason the combine also want it, seeing as the citadel was destroyed, their main line of transport to their overworld was shut off. if they got ahold of the borealis...
2 HL2 references on 1 game. 2+1=3. HL3 confirmed.
omg i cant belive i missed this, gonna have to beat de game again ARGHH
@MrDoItL4ter the ship can teleport so it doesnt matter where it is
i'll be damned, when i first fell down with glados into the hole i was sure as hell i was gonna find something that has something with the Borealis to do but never found it, and then it was right there all along.
This egg better mean their almost done with Episode 3.
I was stuck at this part forever and accedently found that too
Oh my gosh. I saw that door and didn't think to jump on the box. I looked at it for a solid 30 seconds thinking if it was important or not and just walked away D:
@CristianApostol she's in the room above the Borealis dry dock.
3 months ago and now you put this -.-
When Jack said " I happened to be rolling" I immediately thought of drugs...
There's also an achievement for trying to open those doors before the boat "hangar".
@Randomizer903 You know or the fact they are made by the same company. AND in the ending song of Portal it mentions Black Mesa and the Orange Box wasn't even planned really.
I can't believe they forgot to mention the Door Prize achievement you get from the doors in that hallway.
I would love them to make some coop achievement guides. :D
The 3 other doors for Door Prize are also in that hallway.
I went through this thinking that I was supposed to go there when I played through :D
my friend told me about this today! XD
Jack and Geoff, Full Co op play through!!!!
if u press X on the metal doors in the secert area Cave says something differnt on each door u press X on
@MrDoItL4ter If I remember my Half Life 2 right the Borealis was built by Apature in their later years when they started cutting corners to get results. And the Borealis had some new powerful tech on board when it one day disappeared into thin air and taking some of the dock and crew with it.
Remember to click on the intercoms on the doors in this area for the "Door Prize" achievement.. there are more doors earlier in this chapter
@froesen182 they kinda are not story based anyway but probably will interact places in the future (meaning in episode 3 or half life 3 youll get to the boat but i highly doubt youl go to aperture science itself like where glados is)
i got this on accident too lol... same with the achievement for the vertified doors
I found this by accident also I was messing around and thought I had to go that way so the acheivement was a plus.
@kgoo867 I had not realized that a majority of players did not like that portion. Care to let me know where you get that statistic from? Perhaps they just happen to be the loudest?
@XxD3athxMet4lxX Kliener is just a scientist, not the rebel leader. Hell Eli is more of a leader then Kliener was. Just a heads up
The ONE thing I can count on: "WHAT'S up guys, it is Jack and Jeff from Achievement Hunter.com..."
First time I saw that in the achievements I thought 'We're finally getting something about Episode 3!!' and then I found this area and thought '....the better start their work on it already...'
@desmondli007 according to wikipedia, they share the same universe and black mesa and apeture science are rivals
Connection if you go back to hl2epi2 the picture of the borealis is in that slot
right as a get done watching a Rooster teeth video another one pops up...
When ur going back through the story. Is there anyway to know which save it's on :/
@Exkhaniber Thats where "Borealis" was made. You will find out about this ship in the Half Life 2 Episode 3 or whatever Valve will name that game.
So how about a Door Prize guide? That one seems to be giving me a bit of trouble, but then again, maybe it was those three doors that I was missing.
jack said "this is a slip where a boat would go" and i instantly knew what he was talking about and i jizzed.
I miss these days
The other thing is that the Door Prize achievement requires you to examine all vitrified doors and there are 6 total. 3 in that hallway and 3 in the earlier part of Chapter 6 right after you go up the elevator near the beginning.
thank GOD jack was rolling when he found it
I was hoping one of the computers in that room had the Lost numbers typed in.
when is the rvb season 9 1st episode come out?????
As far as my knowledge goes, in Borealis Aperture Science team experimented with time travel. So that could be a plot detail in HL2 EP3. If we ever get to play it that is...
I was so pissed when I got out of the old Aperture part and I didn't find that achievement, I missed it bad
Hey Jack the description is wrong. It says the game you're playing is 'Ship Overboard'
i found that easter egg by myself on my first play through although i had no idea there the ship Borealis is from
i found that on accident thinking that was where u were supposed to go
Can you pick levels to play throughagain? Does anyone know?
for those on PC, changelevel sp_a3_transition01 in the admin console to get to this level
@antoz166 Dude, I don't think you know that but Portal and Half-life are from the same world. This ship appears at the end of HL2 Episode 2 and is a reference to the next chapter which we are waiting for some time. This ship is from Aperture Science and will probably take a big role in Chapter 3. It's also a signal that Valve didn't forget Half-Life. It's really something to be excited for
U guys r awesome
Wait this DOES refer to the cut beginning level of HL2, right?
