Hi Sorin, thank you for accepting my customers laptop. I didn't use the right amount of thermal paste when I send it to you as with the right amount when removing the cpu cooler it pulls the cpu out of the socket. You are the best! Keep teaching!

I just bought an Acer Nitro 5. Unboxed it, plugged it in, and would not come on. Plugged it in 5,6 different times, tried different electrical sockets, Still no power. Called support and they told me to unplug it and hold the start button down for 20 seconds. Still no power. They said I would have to send it in for repair. I was not happy. I decided to goggle it online and...WOW. I found the problem. This problem is happening a lot from what I read online. Even though I plugged and unplugged the cord several times, I failed to actually plug it in right. The receptacle actually has two steps. You push it in like normal, When it stops, You push again and it will snap into place. ACER should inform people of this . It would save a lot of problems. I have owned ACER and others before and never had this problem of plugging the cord in the computer.

Is the chip low side or high side Mosfet?I don't think these chips are designed to stand 500 C. That is why is VRM section on motherboard designed with humongous mosfet coolers. But then again I'm not electrical engineer. Regarding thermal paste I think someone put too much on GPU and enough on CPU,as AMD newer chips don't get that warm (hoping this isnt Ryzen 9 chip).Vega graphics chip mostly fails on many newer laptops that is why it is avoidable..same disaster happened to old Radeon HD chips in laptops as in iMacs.

Perhaps not an easy repair, might need reballing or changing the CPU (with the iGPU on the same chip) or changing the chipset or replacing the RAM soldered dirrectly onto the motherboard or disabling the soldered RAM.

Hey Sorin, and Please don't Take offense. I've learnt a Lot from your Videos and even more from the discord but aren't you afraid of Killing the GPU when you already know to Most likely Deal with a High Side short to GPU Core? The Rail is supposed to run at Maybe 0.8V and iirc you even Put 4Amps at 2.4V Into the GPU. I'd be pretty much interested whether the GPU is confirmed fine after intsallling the latest Drivers and doing some Bench Marks. Greetings from Germany!

TBH, I don't quite understand how removing the COIL helped you identify the bad chip - looking at the datasheet for that chip, the coil sits between the chip and the power rail it generates (GPU power in this case), so removing the coil should've still resulted in a short through the chip when you measured (since it was still on the board at that point)...

You put ground before or after coil depends on where you put the positive on other side.the coil acts like bridge.
