The paperbark maple - 'Acer griseum' is one of the top bark effect ornamental trees money can buy and ideal for a a suburban garden due to its size and robustness. It is also one of the species found during the famous (or perhaps I should say infamous) victorian and edwardian plant exhibition around the turn of the 19th century. The good news is that while still regarded as a connoisseurs choice or perhaps even only for a specialist plantsman, Acer griseum is surprising easy to grow and is tolerant of a wide range of garden conditions.
