There are probably bombs that are easier to diffuse than replacing the memory in this laptop. Acer couldn't even do what every other laptop maker has done since they started making laptops. I only wish I had watched this video before buying memory.

I just did exactly the same thing. Got for granted that I would find a memory/hdd hatchet below. OMG I don't have the experience and tools required to perform this surgery.

Damn! I've changed RAMs a lot of times before and I never saw something like this. They clearly wanted the user not to mess with the RAM

Some vendors solder the ram in place, but yes, this is BS!

Awful design ACER! Putting the RAM under the keyboard and under the motherboard.

Yes, definitely an awful design. Keyboard is held in with very small screws and a few clips...I've had to replace two, not looking forward to replacing it a third time, or installing more ram. May be easier just to buy a laptop with 16gb ;).

There are laptops with open able place for RAM, that's easier than opening the whole thing I'll just take it to a repair store, I just need to find my 4 GB of RAM and then am good to go.

Thank you very much for this, it really was essential to being able to install this module. Interestingly when I opened it up I thought I may as well give it a good clean too and the fan and innards were surprisingly spotless (unlike my main PC). The only difficulty I had was in removing that final clip it just didn't want to budge fortunately I could leave it in and still install the module. I also did not have to remove the cable stuck to the hard disk it can be pushed back and out of the way.

Hell with this just going ro go buy another laptop..... Great video ty

Hello, thank you for the video! After replacing the ram, my computer is stuck in a loop. And than it,s says preparing repair. But it is still stuck in a loop of restarting. Can someone have any idea of what is happening? Thanks. Edit: I finally think that it was one of the ram that wasn’t properly connected that create the infinit loop plus a cable that was, I think, not properly connected. @destroyer although it states that 8GB is Max RAM you should be able to 16 GB running just make sure it's two 8GB sticks with the same clock speed. Windows 7 or above or any modern Linux distro should work fine.

Thanks for the video. This is the worst designed laptop ever.. i hope ACER would design it in such a way you can easily access upgradeable units such as RAM and HDD.

This laptop was made in 2014, all the ACER laptops today is much easier to modify (HDD, Ram or M.2)

It would be easier just to buy a whole new laptop, and this time not an Acer one. It's insane how much trouble they made that simple operation.

I have no idea whats going on, I tried to add another 4gb stick to the 4gb already installed and the laptop wont boot. If I change it back to one stick it boots. I've tried each stick separately in every combination and it still works fine but when I put two 4gb sticks in it won't boot.

@@Biotune I wouldn't count it as fixing it, It just worked after I swapped an 8GB stick from another laptop and it booted. Then I thought I would test the 2x 4gb sticks another time and boom out of no where they sprung to life haha

Says 16gb, honestly using the 4g it comes with and replacing the 2g with and 8g will give you WAY more than enough memory to do anything this laptop is capable of.

maximum ram upgrade for this laptop is 16GB. I recommend you to buy another 8GB ram(Same speed) so you will have 4+8 = 12GB.

I have Acer e5 551 and I have 24 gb ram 1600mhz even though it says 16gb is the max. I have one 16gb and one 8. It was very difficult to find 16gb ddr3 single channel.

С разными планками не работает никак. ещё одна особенность данного ноутбука: в его спеках пишет, что он поддерживает до 16 Гб оперативки, и это, как бы, и правда, и нет. Дело в том, что я хотел поменять с 8 Гб ОЗУ (было две планки по 4Гб, которые отлично работали) на 16Гб, то есть хотел поставить две планки по 8Гб. Так вот, планки эти встали нормально, НО. Производительность ноутбука упала на 0! А всё дело в том, что процессор, который кстати несъёмный (встроенный), не поддерживает оперативную память больше 8Гб. То есть, по факту, данный ноут не выносит больше 8Гб оперативки. The end.

I dont know wether youre upgrading memory or diffusing a bomb. Such poor design god damn. Mine is marketed as 64-bit but only has 4gb of ram, so I have no choice but to upgrade. You think acer could be assed enough to cut out an access panel underneath the damn thing for easy access to the ram; LIKE EVERY OTHER LAPTOP MANUFACTURER IN THE MARKET

Acer hasn't designed a laptop like this for ages. And I know for a fact dell had also designed their motherboards inverted, making cpu thermal repast a pain
