I had my port accessed today for bloodwork and chemo. Because I know so many are anxious about their port, I thought I’d show you how easy and painless it is. Modesty warning...you can see part part of my bra because ladies and gents, it is what it is. First I will take off the film that is keeping the scream cream off my clothes, then she will clean the area and feel for the port. Mine is extremely easy to find as you can see! Then she’ll stick the needle in, I feel NOTHING!!! Without the cream you can feel a small stick but it doesn’t really hurt. Sometimes I forget my cream, but it’s no big deal. Then she will check for blood return and take the bikes of blood and cover the cleaned area with a special bandage. Once covered, we can take off our masks! Easy!!! If you are a colon cancer patient you will get a port for your take home chemo, for other cancers, I would highly recommend getting one. They save you from becoming a pin cushion and blowing veins.
