Nice video, as always! A note on the Airfix paint scheme, the grey/brown camo was actually used by the Germans on all tanks and vehicles until early 1941. The two colours are almost identical in shade so it appears as a single colour on black and white photos.

Aluminium barrier tape, we use it in the water industry for pipework in contaminated ground. Can be found in most plumbing merchants.

Interesting build, certainly enjoyed watchimg. I fined that academies instructions are a little hard to follow when they impose an image of a part onto the diagram with a giant white outline which obscures the detail beneath.

I have the new Airfix one from Academy, I do have a couple like the Sherman TD the hetzer the new Priest that is a nice build and got this, airfix do claim there are a couple of more detailed parts in this kits whatever that could be I have o idea so I'm gonna go through sprue NY sprue here with mine I can't say there was anything on the Hetzer but brilliant kit! I've got Tamyias kit of this in the stash too not got round to that build yet though

This kit is not an Academy or Airfix kit. It is a reboxing of the old CMK kit. I built it last year. It did require use of some styrene and some modifications to the kit parts to get it to fix together without gaps. The suspension is a real PIA too. It's no wonder this kit gave you several problems. I was not disappointed by my build because I knew going into the build I was having a go at an CMK kit that I purchased for 10$ US. If you purchased it as an Academy kit and paid 20 quid I could see how you would be pretty disappointed. Still your end result looked great.

I think the flat ID number plate shape is called a "parallelogram" or "rhombus"?

how did you attach the wheels to those shish kabob sticks/toothpicks ? i was going to do the same thing for painting mine. I was gonna spray the wheels the tank color then do the rubber black color for the outside.

At 22.38, should those tow points be reversed, left to right, so the “curl” faces to the midline of the tank not to the outside?

You would think so and I did double check but that is another example of why reference is key sometimes. They do in fact curl outwards towards the tracks

@@ChampionScaleModelling I’ll try and post the pic of the tow bracket facing in that I saw. I did the other Academy kit, checked on mine and they face out also... 👍

What are you're thoughts on the general quality of the academy/airfix kits vs Tamiya? Seem to me that of the big brands these are the relatively cheap ones. Definite uptick in price for the Takom, Dragon or Meng kits. Having built a few from the various brands I find it hard to go past Tamiya in terms of bang for your buck. Can depend on how old the tooling is for a particular kit though I guess.

I must admit I thought that they were ok and good quality - for price but now having built 3 kits across the range I think they are poor. In comparison they don’t have a chance against Tamiya, the only good thing is in an Airfix box they are more accessible so I guess that is good. Dragon unfortunately were great but are now either hard to find or very expensive and there are many different boxings of some kits that have different parts without them mentioning it. For I’d look at: Tamiya - guaranteed good fit and enjoyable build RFM - great, detail, fit Miniart - all in the box but a challenging build Hobbyboss- great value for money and usually good detail/fit Trumpeter - same^ Takom/Meng - are ok but have some issues here and there. Great subject choice and generally good fit and detail Then I’d put Academy, Italeri, afv club, and many others in a group of manufacturers that have great kits but many bad ones which make them tricky to recommend Dragon I feel currently are not really relevant as the prices are either too high here or the kits are only available in China.

@@ChampionScaleModelling excellent advice here! Only Dragon kit I got I had to get from a German store! I wanted a North African British Sherman (older suspension and direct vision) and the only one I could find in 1/35 was Dragon! Paid a pretty price for it. Was actually a great build except for the tracks. All individual lengths and the instructions were flat out wrong on the number of links required each side. It almost ruined the whole build. Also there were almost enough sprues for two tanks as they catered to multiple versions, which while nice, was a but confusing on the build. Definitely an advanced modellers kit. I've read good things about the Takom Blitz range. Meant to be fewer parts so faster build. I'm very tempted by Miniart too as they do some vehicles which you can't find elsewhere. Got my eye on a AEC Armoured car...

Ah yes! Just pocked up that AEC, nice kit but you really do get everything, just add a little scaled down fuel and it will run! 😉
