Hi. May be a bit late but thanks so much for the video. It's sent me back to a hobby I had years ago and love your detail work. I plan to build a specific Hurricane model for a friend of mine and need some specific decals to represent a specific aircraft. Do you know how to get one-off decals for a 1:48 model Hurricane? Thanks again.

Try searching the code In google with 1/48 included you may be surprised how many decal sets there are! What is the code for the aircraft you want to do?

I'm just going to come out and say it, you will never find a perfect Tiger. After reading all the books, photos, damaged vehicles I've seen late tigers with early turrets early turrets with late turret modifications all sorts.

I split the sprues with ten guide horns in half and cut back the ends of the sprue to make some space. then I glued the guide horns into the links and they sat flat. You can't glue the links together in the guide without doing the guide pins because they have to go around the wheels

At 1:40 Yes, you're right about the tracks being irrelevant to the kit. I honestly think Takom intended those extra sprues to be in the Carius kit, and they are here by mistake! At 5:05 Sorry, but no, the correct way for the umbrella is slanted - I drew a diagram, it's on my site. Takom's problem is they made the umbrella straight while its legs have to be slanted.

Interesting you should mention the umbrella being at the wrong angle. If it is the same as the Otto Carius version then the whole cupola is at the wrong angle. Maybe if you adjust the cupola to the correct angle (with one of the viewports pointing directly forward) then it might bring the umbrella to the correct angle also.

Thanks for the update & information! I am no Tiger expert, so I am learning a lot!👍Interestingly, I was just looking at some Eschelon & Star decal sets yesterday, which provide a lot of information regarding whether or not the Tiger had zimmerit & whether it was an 'initial', 'early', 'mid', or 'late' version. I don't know how accurate their research teams are, but I would think that they have relatively few mistakes in terms of zimmerit & versions...however the paint schemes may or may not have beens easy to ascertain in B&W photos. One thing I will add is that all the Tiger I decal sets did open my eyes with one thing: Given the incredible levels of attrition, especially on the Eastern Front, I was quite surprised to see quite a few 'initial' and 'early' versions survive through much or all of 1944. So, as you point out, some of the Tigers would have had to cobble together parts from whatever was available in the workshops & what could be salvaged from Tigers which were destroyed or had to be abandoned. Consequently, one really has to check one's references if accuracy is a high priority (and you now have me very tempted to get that book, which I have heard about, but...🤔 Anyway...I am. looking forward to seeing your completed build, AND your painted & weathered final model! Cheers!😀

While this model may work for some, the SJ83 is a much "better" choice. The SJ81 uses a TINY threaded needle which will lead to threading issues since the threads are not much larger that the needle. For a few dollars more, I bought the SL83 that incorporates a "self aligning" needle nozzle which is held in place with the needle cap. Both brushes will perform very well with the SJ83 having a more durable needle/nozzle arrangement.

I've just bought this kit, the Zimmerit is the best I've seen on any model. It builds up nicely, too. I must admit I passed on the tracks for a set of RFM ones, but that's not to say they are in any way bad, just my personal preference. Highly recommended to Tiger fans like me.

'It looks like the picture, it just doesn't look right on a model.' Truer words have never been spoken... This is unfortunately a major problem for many modellers who are striving for a more 'artistic' finish - but 'artistic' does not necessarily mean realistic, and that goes for figures, tanks - and of course aircraft. In fact, I once saw an image of the underside of an A-10 Warthog which was absolutely smeared with gun soot, to the point it was hard to see the original color. This was a realistic as it could be, it being the actual aircraft, but on a model? No model judge would ever give a model with that a high score since it would be called overdone, and quite possibly 'not realistic'. I'd say that this model is a perfect example that actually look realistic, period.

Nice job and a fun video that moves along at a great pace. For me, (nit pick!) that spinner is still much too pinky red and needs knocking back loads more. Also, a teeny weeny bit of oily weathering just around the underside of where the bottom of the spinner rests near the chin cowling. But that is just me! What a nice kit! One day I might treat myself....

Re 'who it's for' - Since retiring I have been making up sets of 'toy soldiers' to give away, for reasons of cost I opted for 1:32 for 3-8 year old and 1:72 for 7 and up.. Thus far most of the recipients have gone on to add more items to the sets provided (I do offer suggestions in the attached notes) , now that Armourfast have gone I'll need to spend a bit more and this looks like a viable candidate. Hopefully they'll do a Mk5, this would look a little odd next to their old 1:76 Shermans. Some youngsters do make display models but most just want more toy soldiers or kit for wargaming and cost is always an issue. I hope I can give enough of them 'the bug' so kits will still be available for me to buy and enjoy.

I'm in the final stages of the Tamiya 1/32 Corsair. It is simply the most precise kit I've ever seen, some parts fit so tight it is almost a snap-in. Some parts are so tight that a layer of paint was too much. I've been out of modelling for the last 25-26 years, and I'm a little surprised, but happy, to hear that they are still the best in the industry.

Hi. Its what I would expect from a short run kit. It looks like a fairly comprehensive kit so it should keep you busy. But its not what you would call a pretty aircraft, but I am sure that you will produe a diamond from a dog turd. Good luck.

As a child, I never built car models; only airplanes. One question… do you still use glue? I didn’t see any glue in the video. Many of the parts did not look like they would stay together on their own.

Fly's is a new moulding. The original AML kit had the vertical surfaces separated from the fuselage to allow for the different series, bis, B, etc. And it was an absolute dog to build. Looks like a very nice kit, all in all. Just give it some TLC and it'll be fine.
