    I like the “Acabar + de” also to say you’ve just done something..acabo de llegar, acabo de comer, etc…using with the gerund is new for me and a little tricky..I always put the “de” after because that’s how I’ve always practiced it…so it kinda caught me up a little thanks for the video.

    Yes, but be careful. a) In PRESENT tense, the more accurate equivalence between "Acabo de ..." is the English Present Perfect + the adverb 'just'. Example: - Yo acabo de comer - I just have eaten - I just have finished my dinner - I just have dinner or also, Past Simple + just: - I just finished my dinner. In this context, "acabo de" (present tense) refers to an action that just ended at this moment, and was started some point in the past. b) In the PAST tense, "acabé, terminé" (note the tilde at the end of the words), it means "I ended up". - Acabé renunciando al trabajo - I ended up quitting my job I means "finally, at the end, I ended up doing that thing". I'm a native Spanish speaker.-

    As a french speaker I can say that there's a lots of intersections between Spanish and French grammar. But what is funny in french with en lugar de ( au lieu de = instead of or in lieu of) we also use the infinitive, but on the contrary acabar (Finir par, to end up) in French is followed by the infinitive form and not like in Spanish and English where the gerund is the rule Professor, we are so lucky that we have you to teach us Muchas gracias

    I just gave you another watch and a like. These videos really help me. One thing great is that these videos are very repetitive with the same ideas being repeated over and over. The Grammer terms are slowly starting to sink in. I love how each vidio teaches us a new trick as well as going back over things like "reflexive verbs". To my fellow students keep watching this channel. Paul has a tendency to throw in some more advanced stuff along with his basic lesson. Normally he will mention that if you don't understand what he is talking about then check out another video. To my fellow students, Don't try to learn it all in one day rather check out Paul's videos every tike a new one comes out but also check out his old stuff. This is one of my favorite Spanish language youtube channels. Paul, keep uo the good work!

Love the bossy cop «well, unless you want me to put these esposas on you». Awesome. So, let´s see...A+ for presentation, quality of content...A. Good stuff! Anything which makes the word longer in Spanish is the right answer! Here´s a couple more: conllevar a to lead to, to end up being, to result resultar to turn out to be; to end up la forma de resultar how it turns out Good sentence for parties: ¿Ahora que resulta que somos amigos? So, now it turns out we´re friends? I have banged my head LESS once I discovered that English modal and phrasal verbs are the idioms and not their Spanish equivalents. Spending some time equating all the «up, down, over, under, above» crap in English saved my mind. Recommended.

    Hi. The "me" is needed because it means "to me" in this sense. It could be before the conjugated verb or attached to the gerund: Ella acabó diciéndome la verdad. Ella me acabó diciendo la verdad. Conmigo means "with me"

  • @josedelnegro46

    @josedelnegro46

    Ella estaba platicando conmigo. Después cinco minutos ella me dijo la verdad. Con is thé ablativo caso. AB is a España or to of English. Lativo es Lado en español. Or, at the side of, on the side of in English. Ella me llamó con un teléfono. That is the instrumental ablativo. Só, when ever you see con, hear con, or say con look in your mind's eye to see two things side by side. Or something that was in a human hand to make something. ¿Paulo está usando una cámara 📷 para Sacarlos. ¿Los que¿ Los vídeos. Sacar to film. I used the Gerundive usando antes so I should use the infinitive form if I use another verbal-noun next. To film is an action. An action is a thing. Diagram your English sentence first. Make sure you know what each word is doing and what you want to state. Then use Google Translate. Go from English to Spanish. Then hit the two arrows to reverse the translation. Check both translations. Google Translate is not perfect. It cannot feel. You have to guide it. After a while you will use it only to check where to place accents. Such as in "digámoslo." Vs "digamoslos" To Remembrer accent placement is no longer a Need. Google does that well. The act of sentence construction it only does it as well as any given human does when putting the words in. To sum up know what every word in your English sentence does first! Our Minds fool us. Never look at a translated sentence for meaning first. Make sure all of the éléments of the English sentence are in the Spanish sentence. That is why one is never at the end a el cabo! Until one has reverse translated by machine or in the mind.

    🤔 what’s the difference between terminar and acabar? I feel like „terminar“ would be more like „end“ (matching the English expression „to end up“) while „acabar“ more like „finish“ (matching the English expression „to stop doing something“). Like „I just…(left the house, came in etc)“ I‘ve never heard them using terminar but always acabar here in Mexico? As there’s no similarity to German expressions not using the Gerundium at all I‘m struggling a bit to get it right now ☺️

    They both can mean to end or fnish something. In many expessions, like this one, you can use either without changing the meaning; however, there is a difference when using DE: acabar de + infinitive - to have just done something terminar de + infinitive - to finish doing something

    The proceeding tense, as I´ve taken to calling it isn´t the same timeframe as the English Progressive tense. Honesty, you must be committing the action in the time of the story (past) or doing it ahora mismo for the present for the Spanish Proceeding tense. That whole (ir a ir a) crap going to go to is just too ghetto for me. Iré. Done. But people do say it. I prefer to speak the Spanish which would be heard in a debate hall or University rather than a 7-11 by carless thugs. «Know wha I´m saaain´, know wha I´m saaaain´. Ah, made myself laugh! Awesome. Anyway, the C1 level use of el and la, un and una is a great read! El hablar is actually «speaking» and there would be instances where using or not using the el or la would have a dramatic impact.

    Yes, Carlos finished the assignment. Acabarse is often used to mean that something "ran out", "there's no more of it". Se acabó el café. The coffee ran out (there's no more). To say "who" is affected by the item "running out", you can use indirect object pronouns: "Se nos acabó el café" - We ran out of coffee, but literally the coffee ran out to us. Acabarse can be tricky to work with. I will probably do a video dedicated to that one.
