ACA Howler Sounding Alert, Cologne MN (12/6/23,

Ғылым және технология

The only Howler left in regular use, located at City Square Park in Cologne, sounding 3 minutes of Alert. Each video was taken approx. 80 ft. from the base of the siren's pole.
If you noticed that the two camera angles for this video seemed to not be synced up quite right, I can assure that they were, the cameras were placed on opposite sides of the water tower next to the siren, so the rotation angle in each shot is slightly different at any given time. The audio is from the wide shot, so that shot and angle are slightly more in sync. I will be purchasing a new microphone fairly soon to go on my main zoom shot camera, though I'm not entirely sure when I'll get around to it.
I've been considering this one for a good while, and since I was told Carver county is no longer seasonal, I decided to finally pay this Howler a visit. It seems I picked a good time, since the rotator looks to be doing worse than it was about two years ago, when this siren was last recorded. Carver county used to have a fair amount of Howlers, other examples are known to have been installed in Norwood Young America, Hamburg, and possibly Mayer, but this is the last active example known to exist in the U.S. and it was wonderful to see it in action.
Cameras used:
Nikon Coolpix P1000 (Main Shot, 4k30fps)
Canon SX540HS (Secondary Shot/Audio, 1080p60fps)

I have no idea how this video got recommended to me, I am from Eastern Europe and I am pleasantly surprised seeing people being excited about sirens, even tho I never searched nothing even remotely to them. You guys rock!

Not decommissioned, but I wasn't sure if the rotator was going to work when it started up. I saw it moving slightly back and forth in the wind before it wound up

Siren Head is actually a very early test model of an EOWS-612, that dates back to 1964. The siren fell decommissioned, and, one thing lead to another, 2 of the speakers are fused to a flesh, almost limb-like pole that takes place of a creature's head. The creature looks like something from Silent Hill
