@@barrystein8834 Many guys have forgotten, or just plain didn't know, that the new Corvette Stingray had its glory surpassed by the 289 Shelby GT 350. The Stingray, with a 327, was in the same SCCA B Production Class and got its ass whooped for the Championship for 3 consecutive years, '65, '66 and '67 by the smaller engine Mustang. Great feat of accomplishment since the Mustang was never built with the intent of racing against the mighty Corvettes. Shelby made the difference! 🤠 🏆 🏁

That Cobra is a 289!
A GT350 and a AC Cobra, can't get much better than that.
What a sound. What… a… sound… That is the sound of circuit racing in the 1960’s, pure and raw.
that is some seriously skilled driving by 3 outstanding drivers in 3 well-made race cars! well done!
3:14 With pipes like that, a Cobra will never sneak up on anything.
I love how they Lotus Super 7 keeps up with everybody. They were especially good on a short tight track.
Great racing, she sounds good! Nice save keeping it out of the tire wall when you went off track.
excellent video. Great racing and I know Ken Miles is grinning watching you two race. Thanks for posting. Cheers from Texas and another 427 S/C owner.
These are two brothers racing. The Cobra was set up for street and rally, not race, hem e to body roll. It was a late substitute for a 289 Tiger that had a mechanical issue. 427 is street tuned for pump gas, low compression, a torque motor.

Logan Israel Williams Cobra Automotive in Wallingford CT preps the cars and the motors. The motors they build sound awesome and run strong. The 427 Cobra was a last minute substitute for a 260 Tiger that was DNS. The Cobra was really in street trim. All that was done to the Cobra before the race was to dial up the stiffness on the shocks (rebound) and put on race tires, hence it seems to lean a lot.

@@dr.hugog.hackenbush9443 - Didn't matter as the 302 came out in 1968, 3 years after the 289 Cobra was done. FYI, the predecessor to the 289 was the 260. No doubt Shelby would have used the 302 had it been made then. In any event, the venerable 289 won him more than its fair share of races in its time. In the Daytona Coupe, it registered 197 mph at Le Mans with the late, great, Bob Bondurant driving! It actually was beating even the prototype Ford MK II and Ferrari for a good portion of the race in '64! That 289 with 4 Webers put out just under 400 hp, huge numbers for a carbureted small block at that time.

@Enzo 1965 your joking right? with a name like Enzo you gotta know how to double clutch
@skyburner694
3 жыл бұрын
I never heard of double downshifting. I think what your referring to is the heel and toe method of downshifting where the driver still uses the left foot for the clutch but works the brake pedal with the toe of the right foot while bliping the throttle with the heal of the right foot to make the RPM's match up to prevent unnecessary clutch & pressure plate wear and tear. This also prevents the rear tires from losing traction and making the rear end of the car unstable. New super cars that still have manual transmissions use computers that can auto blip the throttle for you, but most now have fully automatic transmissions or paddle shifted semi-automatic transmissions. Double clutching is only used for non-synchronized transmissions, like in really old trucks and cars. This means letting the clutch out between shifts (in neutral) then shifting to the next gear, and letting the clutch out again to continue. This is an extremely slow process and not practical for a racing car!!!!
That was Kick Ass....Excellent..
One of the best engine sounding videos in the world.

The 289 really sounds great - winds up to 8,500 RPM. 1/2 the sound is is in getting the crossover pipe configuration just right. We have another GT350 that sounds even better - sounds like it is turning 10,000 RPM - unbelievable sound from a small block Ford
Had me on the edge of seat, good race

Love the 60's Vintage Racing...and the Cobras are always an amazing 'grand prix' type to watch! That said, the blue-and-white Cobra sure had a LOT of sway in that rear suspension! I'd just so happened to have watched Bill Shepherd's Nurburgring run in the 63-hardtop...an actual Cobra...and it pulls G's like a Lamborghini...I'm amazed the Goodyear Eagles don't just give up and let-go, on some of those corners! I'm assuming this one is a 'replica'...and if set-up for the track, someone really over-compensated for 'squish'...

And THAT's what a proper Shelby was designed for and how it should be driven!
@dreyn7780

Wrong! He's gutless on the acceleration and won't let the engine do its job of breaking. He doesn't straighten out the corners so he can jump on the accelerator, which is what his MACHINE IS DESIGNED TO DO. His driving style is suited to European car models NOT big engine fast revving USA model cars. When he tried to pass the car, he began to use the car how it was designed to be used. Early acceleration and BIG acceleration and early breaking and big engine breaking before entering corners.

Close call with that little overshoot, feel really sorry for the guy in the AC, just when he'd got a clear road ahead of him his engine starts playing up. I don't think getting stuck behind other cars and not putting a move on them sooner probably wasn't helping him, constantly running in dirty air. The 350 had the right idea shame they couldn't have raced to the end, I still think the 350 would have taken the win, seemed to me he was the better driver of the two. Good race.
