Thank you for talking extensively of about possible problems. It's nice that you don't dumb it down. It's a complicated system.

A/c vents get clogged and the drain gets clogged and nasty backed up with black mold and debris also everything else mentioned in this video can check filters helps but doesn't help cool it just helps the airflow.

Great video that's detailed but very understandable to a lay person. I feel confident to check the line and understand a bit more when I talk to my mechanic.

On my way back to the repair guy now again (5th time, 3rd different place ). I feel bad for making suggestions to them since they suppose to be the experts but I will try to choose my words wisely. My A/C had quite a few repairs done in the past few weeks. The problem now is that it works perfectly while idling ( hence they pick up no issues ) but whilst driving it cycles on and off ( mostly off ). It is the clutchless type. They already changed the condenser and fixed a leak and also found a blocked pipe ( car had a slight front knock which bent the condensor and a pipe slighthly which led to the blockage theory but I guess there are other issues ). They keep charging me everytime as well and I am honestly running very low on cash. I wish you were my ac guy. Greetings from South Africa

One question how are they charging ur ac system are they using cans or are they using ac machine to recover and vaccume and then re charge?

@@RBTheMechanic The 1st placed used one of those really expensive machines that measured everything and was fully automated but this place is using manual gauges and tanks ( to be fair though they only do a/c's and they should in theory know what they are doing as they have been around forever ). Anyway I left my car there now and casually mentioned some pointers that you said in your video without trying to sound cocky. I need to use these guys as I have paid them quite abit already and they seem honest enough to fix their mistakes.

@@declansgamereview6523 yeah these new cars requires perfect amount of refrigeration also if u have a leak it wount work out well since machine will vaccume and air will be sucked in and then u will have difference in pressure but from what I under stand when ur idling ur working fine due to low rpm but when moving high rpm it quickly pushing as much as it can and then there’s none left behind to pump for ac compressor untille more returns back to suction line

Could be bad pressure switch or compression valve since your compressor is clutchless it has a compression valve to control flow of refrigerant

My 2006 Silverado air conditioning doesn’t smell, but it stops working off and on. Had the coolant replaced and didn’t help. Compressor is fine. No leaks. The fan works fine. When the cold air stops on its own here and there, fan still going, the air seems more humid only then (when the cold quits) and smells slightly wet. It’s started the day I got it back from a fuel pump change… It works fine about 50% of the time.

Ok. I think ur checking coolant system but u need to check Freon pressure and it seems like ur system might be low that would cause on and on type hot cold warm mild

@@jeanies8495 did they vaccum it? If the releases it that’s bad for the planet don’t go back to them and if the releases it they don’t have propper machine they should had recovered it with ac machine

I had the climate control knob fixed. Was working ok. I released the old freon and put in autozone ac can. Now it blows hot air. Maybe i just need a good ac service like you said. Its a 2002 highlander.

Might be low freon

Hello RB: Thank you for your great video. This is exactly what is happening to my 2012 Chrysler 300C (the A/C blows hot and sometimes cold air.). I took my car into a local mechanic so that they could check to see if it was Freon that was needed. They checked it and said that the recirculatory button was not working and that it didn't need Freon. I received an estimate for what it might be. I will have to save up for it now. They mentioned three things could be wrong. First, the A/C blend door actuator may be needed. (When I researched this, it says the car would be making a noise. Mine does not.) Second, A/C condenser may be very filthy and may need to be cleaned. (I looked at it, doesn't look dirty, but I rinsed it. Unless it is a deeper cleaning that is needed). After researching, it also said that a noise would be heard. No noise is heard. Third, they could replace the condenser and expansion valve and add Freon (suppose the one in there is removed/lost that they need to add after saying that it didn't need any?). The 3rd option would cost me $628. Thoughts? Should I go with the 3rd option or try the cleaning first? ($75) Again, I don't hear any noises. BTW: Where are you located?

@@RBTheMechanic I forgot to mention that I checked the pipes under the hood you mentioned. The one on the right (facing it) was normal cool the one on the left got super hot right away after turning on car.

Thanks man! Question - my sienna 2014 , 126k miles was blowing 70c, I saw the low pressure valve was mad high, so I let some pressure out. (Not the best I know) It was blowing at 75c before I touched it, after I released some pressure after someone told me it would help lol, then it went to blowing 90c. Straight hot air, no cooling. I decided to stop and take it to the shop. I told him what happened and what I did. He said he fixed it, he drained the system, charged it again, but AC is still at 65* at 630am now! This ain’t right. Yesterday on my way home 15 minute drive, the car never got cold, it was barely ok. And that was at 630 car had been sitting in the sun it was mad hot. This car was a meat locker before. 65 at 6am translates to sweating bullets at noon. When it’s noon this doesn’t work.

Could be a lot of things, I would start by liking up weather/humidity chart for automobile r134a recharge and follow that chart, whatever your humidity/ ambient temperature is out side recharge AC accordingly. Always use gauge manifold set to watch high and low side. Or replace your expansion valve or accumulator drier

Nice presentation… if checking the low side is in green but upper green should some Freon be let out to be in lower green? Sometimes blows cold and sometimes blows cool. Is the entire area of green safe from lower level to upper level and ac would blow cold as normal?

I have a situation on my car a lexus ct200h 2013 (which is pretty much like a prius with a lexus badge) where the ac works and blows cold air then some time passes and it starts blowing hot air then after a while cold air again and so on. It might not be related but it started happening driving back home in a heavy rain day where i had to drive back home with higher than average water levels so maybe something shorted I dont know.

Electric everything compaired to this car so o Py thing u can check is once’s ur ac cuts off check bled door operation other wise it may need to be checked by specialist

that's my problem - good explanations - thanks. another video mentioned that cabin air filter or the ac radiator (condenser?) could be dirty - do you ever find that's the problem?

Yup have seen those also cause over heating blocked radiator with dirt

My 2012 sonata blows warm at startup on hot days. Fan is working, fully evac and recharged Freon. Not the expansion valve or pressure sensor switch. I need help.

Going through this now. My mechanic put the hose on it and he let some freon out. And it blows pretty cool but not COLD. Starting up the car its humid cold so i know something is off. 2018 nissan Altima. 110,500 miles now. ny suggestions? I added coolant as well often because i drive ALOT

No coolant is for engine cooling u need to tell him to reservice the ac systm im not sure which hose he changed cuz ac system u can let some out all of it blows out no stopping

We had the same problem with Ford F150 2019. AC was on and off out of nowhere. So we decided to refill AC, which cost 450 dollars in Canada. But after fixing we realized that AC blows colder air but after 20 minutes driving. It doesn't work as suppose to. And AC isn't super cold as it used to be. Please what it can be? We don't see any leakage. The car is 2,5 years new. It is surprising that something got broken so early:(

Well that’s really costly to refill the has for $450 anyways how did they do it? Did they use ac machine to recover vaccume for 20 minutes then add proper amount Freon and oil?

2007 tahoe- my rear ac blows cold but the front blows warm, also has plentry of freon. What could it be?

Hi! I have this problems too. Sometimes warm combined with less warm. But can you tell me why the clutch pedal gets hard to press in a hot day like summer days? And when the engine cool down then pedal press normal. Please help! Car is hyundai 1.2 petrol only 55000k km. Many thanks!

Something might be restricketd remember heat expand and retract so check the cable links and clunkers fluid

Thank you for a very good explanation. I have a 2017 KIA Soul and the AC works great 99% of the time, but every now and then the cold air stops for a few minutes. Yesterday I noticed, while idling, that if I increase the rpm's by pressing the gas pedal the cool air came back. Any suggestions on what could be the problem?

That seems like low Freon when u Reve up the RPM it pushes more Freon to make it cooler so it might take care of u do recovery vaccum and recharge the ac system

@@RBTheMechanic i have same problem except it only works of i rev to 2500 rpms or so and i am getting high pressure reading on the low pressure side... I'm assuming weak compressor that needs to be replaced. I can't imagine rpm change in engine would have any affect on any other part of the system than the compressor

It might not be correctly charge how did u charge the system

My car had a problem where when you first start the engine the AC will work for a minute or 2 then just starts blowing regular air. I took it to an AC auto shop and they replaced the compressor, condenser, expansion valve, etc…. But it still wouldn’t work. Do you have any clue what it could be?

How did they recharge the systems? Some shops use cans to charge which is not proper way ac refrigeration has to be correct amount also oil for ac system so have it re serviced vaccume the system for 20 minutes then re charger. That’s what seems like to be the problem to me

I'm having the same issues, I replace my ford flex with new OEM AC condenser, AC compressor, radiator, belt, tensioner, and expansion valve. It’s still doing the same ice cold to hot air. What do you think it is? Next receiver dryer?

It was serviced and recharged by the mechanic. It was redo like four-five times already. Long story short, I came back from a long trip for ten-hour into it, ac started shutting ice cold to warm. After doing some research, I am thinking that a receiver dryer could be it. But IDK. Can you tell me a little bit about receiving dryer?

What need to be tested is see if ac compressor works when it get hot if it dosent work then check power to the compressor it could be cutting off when it get hot also check if ur car got ac compressor relay swap that out as well

I checked the compressor while running ac and clutch on compressor spin with no problem.

My AC makes a hissing sound every time compressor cycles through. It only comes on when driving and more prominent at higher speed. Recently, I noticed that the fan speed suddenly drops, blows hot air and then there is a loud hiss and then cold air starts again. Also noticed the pipe which connects the expansion valve has rust suggesting there must have been quite some condensation around it. I don’t know what the problem can be?

You made it worst I never recommend using can to add because ur don’t know how much ur adding ac machine dose the job but anyways check fuses and see if there’s any water leaks inside the car I know infiniti are know for leaking water but u will have to fix the over fill issue the system will not work propperly take it to shop let them fix it

Good morning my ac works only when its not hot outside. I had it vac’d & recharged it wasnt the issue. If its hot outside and I put cold water to cool the car down under the hood. Or run it thru a car wash it kicks back in. Im not vegas and they charge a arm and leg also will scam. Possible problem?? I want to have an idea before I take it in.

My 1994 Corolla was blowing ice cold and then all of a sudden, AC was blowing warm and then car was overheating??? Also didn’t notice the fan going on when AC was blowing warm. Any idea what the specific problem would be??

Somthing like this is not specific u have to check to see if fans work thermostat could be issue start by checking fans and top of antifreeze

My ac works fine for the first minute or two then the cooling gradually goes away I checked the freon and it was slightly less than usual. Is this the issue? If you could write all the possible issues, I would be very grateful.

U can’t see Freon u might be looking at coolant which is diffrent and it dose seems like u might be low on r134 gas

Hello everyone, i have a question, maybe someone can help, i have a 96 izusu oasis, its the same exact van as 96 honda oasis just diff badge, anyway my ac is being weird, i have had it checked and freaon is properly filled which was done by a mechanic with AC machine, they say they have tryed everything which i doubt cause they said car was to old to figure it out, so they just checked for leaks and stuff, all is ok but the AC has got em stumped, anyway the rear ac is ice cold but after a few moments the front AC will go warm to room temp with the rear AC being ice cold still, its not making any sence to me and i have looked through the factory repair manual that the dealer uses and there is no mention of that issue, can anyone help me with this, thanks so much.

Ok I’m not too farmeliar with this year and the car anyways did u check to see if the system is vaccum controlled to open and close the bled door not this car but u have similar issue on Buick the system didn’t control the door the diaphragm didn’t hold propperly and every onece a while it turn to opposite side

My Kia Soul starts blowing hot air when I switch the blower speed but only for a few seconds then turns cold. The A/C light on the dial turns off when it does it then turns on when it blows cold again. What can that be?

It could be issue with the control panal but I would do some dignostic it is worried tho but check for power drop check for loose or melted connectors at blower motor

When I remove the low side I connect directly compressor is blowing OK but when I reconnect back and put gas it's only cooling for few minutes?

Hello. I wonder if someone can help me. I have a 2010 Jeep Liberty, I took it to the shop twice, the first time, they recharged refrigerant, second time they said it was a bad valve causing it to leak, but now it’s blowing hot air again. I did notice both times that it starts making like a hissing noise before it stops working. Can some one give me an idea as to what it could be?? Thank you I’m advance !

@@jesusvaldez8315 yup change out the ac compressor relay first and next time if cuts off check to see if compressor gets power with ac on but u have to check this at the moment it shuts off that way u can determine the power is there or not to rule out ac compressor hood or bad

I just change the ac compressor my ac works few minutes then blows hot air then blows cold again hot and cold on and on what do you think the problems is

@@RBTheMechanic I have done a leak test and no leaking. Have the system professional empty and then refilled showed that the was right volym already before they empty, still when it's hot outside the AC stops after 5-10min. Any suggestions?

Cold and hot intermittently. Not the best mechanic said it was a compressor leak, and I needed a new compressor... Would the car still blow ice cold if it was a compressor leak?

Nooo it would work till it’s low then cut off completly fix the leak and fix it if it got leak but intermittently usully sound like air and Freon in system do recover vaccum and recharge that might fix it

My 07 charger has the adequate amount of pressure, compressor is on, and blows cold air for 5 minutes then hot air. Then when the AC is turned off, the air still comes out the vents and it’s hot.

So ur blower motor stays on ? That’s what the issue is?

@@RBTheMechanic well the blower motor will turn off but I feel a draft of hot air. I would think the blower door actuators? But other thank that, the AC only stays cold for about a minute. The compressor stays on and the pressure on both lines is good. What else could it be?

Forgot to add that the cold line in the engine bay will eventually go warm/fresh after 10 minutes. Maybe air in the lines?

@@OT_Tips so there could be restriction in ac systym or ac compressor is bad I would start with clear out the systym do ac service acc correct amount of oil

In my case my 2013 honda civic A/C system was overfilled, After I leaked some freon out and it was back in the green on my a/c gage it worked fine and stayed cold, I'm in Arizona so we have some extremely hot summers, the other thing that was a issue was the a/c compressor was loose, so I tightened it back down and no more rattling, surging compressor.

@@MJ-py7wk went to oriellys and got a freon nozzle and connected it to the low pressure side and just pressed the trigger and let it out into the atmosphere.

After a diagnostic test the AC shop couldn’t help me. I noticed only the passenger side was cooling but not the driver side, so I replaced the door bend acaatur, now it only works sometimes but it’s still not fix. Btw this video didn’t help either.

Did u check Freon pressure? System might be low and only cool half of the ac core to give only half of the side cooling

I have same issue with my Hybrid Toyota Yaris 2019 2 weeks ago I regas see/recharged the AC. Today I did a coolant change/flush and afterwards the AC on max/high setting blows cold air for few minutes then hot air for few minutes then cold again and cycle repeats.

I do t think it has anything to do with coolant flush unless car is over heating well anways u got hybrid so I’m kinda lost my self I do t do those do check ur Freon. How did u recharge the systym?

I have a jeep my ac blow cold but hot on the passenger and all the back areas are hot any suggestions?

@@thedonbreezy450 is it dual temp control? Check both blend door motors if it’s dual control other wise u need to recharge the system with ac machine cans will not work

The ac compressor switches on then off blower motor is working but not blowing cold air

It might be low on Freon that’s when it will only have enough cooling to blow on low speed

Thank u for the reply. The problem is the little motor that moves the plastic warm/cold that moves the valve. Its not powerful enough to push the valve

@@jovannyflores9422 did u use ac machine to recover vacuum and recharge? If no then it’s not charged and not charged properly and correct amount Freon need to be added too much I’m with not work good too little will not work good

The word you where looking for is "condensation" for the moisture outside the pipe.. this is what is happening to my 2016 Jeep Patriot, it blows cold when it wants it seems to only come on once my car runs for a while then it seems to run fine for 30 to 45 Mins it stops and blows hot air! I took it to my local mechanic and they said they thought it had air in the system so they vacuumed all the air out of the system and replaced the freon and it blowed cold when I first got in the vehicle at first but then a few minutes later it was blowing hot again! It Was too late to take to the shop again because they had already closed but ill be backup there on Monday... I replaced the compressor about a year ago and the blower motor about a year and a half ago do you think they could have gone out already. Is there any possibility it could be the blend door actuator? Or the condenser?

What year make model is ur car? As I was reading ur msg u said hot and cold before u even mentioned that ur mechanic said u have air in the system that’s exactly what came to my mind it would be worth to recharge the system and make sure ur mechanic has ac machine to recover vaccum and then add correct amount of r135

By the way faulty relay can heat up and cut off then come back on once it cools off so if ur car got relay just change it out well worth it

@@RBTheMechanic I have a 2016 Jeep Patriot latitude 2.0 and I have did pay for them to vacuum out the system and to Replace the freon once they vacuumed all the air out of the system. And I also had them change out the blend door actuator and it's still doing the same thing and I've already spent well over $400! Does anyone know where the relay is that runs the fan motor on my vehicle? I have been searching on Google for days for a diagram of the fuse box and relays with out any luck

@@RBTheMechanic well I live in Houston Texas so I don't expect it to blow out Icicles but I do expect it to be a bit cooler than the 85 degrees that it is currently blowing. I am going to take a chance and change out the ac expansion valve because it could be plugged up with debris or something and then most likely I will have to replace the compressor again Since a year ago when we changed the compressor we didn't change the expansion valve as it should had been suggested to us by our mechanic

My ac is coming out hot and cold what do you think that would be ?

Seems like either it’s low or air pressure u might want to start with reservice the system

My Camaro does blow cold for like 2 minutes then hot for like 15 seconds. Know why?

@@fairystone no that’s not correct u have air pressure and gas pressure so it’s all messed up in there gotta start off and do it correct recover vaccum and recharge you might have to take it to mechanic and let them do it
